  • A super friendly whale shark playing with some lucky divers.
    This baby whale shark seemed to really enjoy the bubbles from the divers and kept circling back for more!

      Protection is part of it. Is some midsized carnivore going to screw with you when your buddy is a 40-foot giant? I don't think so!
      And you choose a filter feeder because your life is a LOT safer that way. Sharks that hunt large prey tend to get in a lot of fights, both with their prey and those big violent feeding frenzies with a bunch of other sharks. Once the shark is in a fight or a frenzy, it doesn't really care if a few of the remoras that follow them around bite it during the struggle.

There's a reason there's a 3 meter(10') safety distance to whale sharks imposed by most serious tour operators, and it's not just for the shark's sake. They can definitely hit you hard enough to wind you. Think of it like being crushed between a car's bumper and a wall. The car doesn't have to be moving fast.

      No , they attached themselves to the sharks to get a ride - they're species of commensalism - a type of relationship where the host gains nothing nor it is harm.

    • @regaininglife9084
      @regaininglife9084 Před 6 lety +63

      It's not its babies. Those fish like to attach or swim near and are like "groomers" to the whale shark. They eat off parasites and other material off the Whale shark's body. You see this with land animals too with birds "grooming" some large land animals. It is a mutually beneficial relationship. They both help each other and ignore or do not harm each other.

And there were moments where he appeared to be sucking in the bubbles that were being expelled from the diver's tanks-as if it were a game of catch the bubbles. Watching moments like this are so wonderful. It's so special to see Man interact with animals for fun, instead of trying to Kill them.
