  • Fountain Repair: How to paint your fountain! Be careful not to paint your fountain with water based paint if it was originally oil based. I've found concrete stain to work perfect for me!

    Looks beautiful. But one advice, concrete stain is better than concrete dye for outdoor surfaces, it lasts longer too. So when yours fade in the future, use concrete stain. Dye does give you a more intense and vibrant color though.

    Pretty good job overall! It just appears that you mixed waaay to much dye! You could have probably stained 10 fountains with the amount you mixed! Good review of Behr stain 👍🏼

    Does your fountain use a non-submersible pump as does my over 20 year old one? I replaced the pump several times and it then laid unused for years. I now want to restore it and it seems all these small pumps are submersible only. Did you do a conversion and if so, how did you do it? Last step is to get it working again. Thank you for showing me how to paint it and mine now looks great!

      Thank you for watching! And THANK YOU VERY MUCH for reminding me that I never uploaded my video of the finished fountain. Haha! I did just now and labeled it PART 3. Had it in my phone and just forgot. Good luck on that huge 6 foot fountain! I’m sure it will look fantastic. Thank you for the Birthday wishes! It’s not easy turning 50! 🤣😂

    What did you clean your fountain with prior to staining?

    My fountain is painted and chipped. Will this work over paint or what would you recommend? Beautiful job on your fountain!

      Thank you Lynette! I’m very happy with how it turned out. Funny you should ask this question. I do have another fountain. It came from the factory with a concrete stain. It started to wear out after some years. So years ago I hired a fountain repair person to repaint it. He put water based (acrylic) paint over the concrete oil based paint. I didn’t know. Well as you can guess oil and water don’t mix. So after a short time my new fountain paint started to peel. It got so bad. I had to sand down my whole huge fountain to remove it. Ugh! I would recommend that you sand down your fountain to remove as much of the water based paint as possible. Once you have that mostly off, then buy the concrete stain and paint your fountain. If there is any acrylic paint still on the concrete the new oil based will most likely help remove it over time and you can always touch up and reapply the concrete stain as needed. I am soooo glad you reached out with this question. I forgot I made a video this summer about me removing the acrylic paint off my large fountain. I’ll try and post that video today for you! Thanks for being a Larry Life Dad viewer and subscriber Lynette!!

    did you strip the concrete first or did you just hit it with the dye?

    All Behr concrete dye is out of stock. Not sure why?

    • @LarryLife
      @LarryLife Před 4 lety +1

      Lisa that is so strange. I got my concrete dye at Home Depot. But with this pandemic a lot of things are out fo stock or take longer to get. I’m in SoCal. They mixed mine in the paint department. If I recall they said they were out fo it too but then I told them they had to mix it. They had a Behr brochure in the aisle and it shows how to make the colors.
