- The Regulation F rules for VGC have been announced and a whole new batch of Pokemon have been introduced to competitive play! To get started with the format, I wanted to try out one of the brand new Paradox Pokemon, Walking Wake. When paired with Sunny Day Whimsicott, Walking Wake can deal massive amounts of damage with its signature attack, Hydro Steam, as well as Flamethrower and Draco Meteor.

One interesting thing is since walking wake terad into steel in game 5, it only got a plus 1 for critical hit from the dragon cheer, because it was no longer a dragon type
Aaron talking about max speed Porygon being a possibility during game 1 reminds me of the choice scarf icy wind Cress that wrecked him a few months ago. Always fun to see (or at least theorize) some wacky sets

I think they missed the crit because they terrastalized their walking wake to steel type, meaning that they did not get the 2 increased crit stages, but just 1.
I feel like Sun is gonna be much bigger this Regulation than before. In Reg E, other weathers were extremely unreliable because of Tornadus often carrying rain dance, but with Raging Bolt threatening KO’s into it and Whimsicott able to taunt it, as well as all the great sun abusers like Raging Bolt, Wandering Wake, and Gouging Fire, I have much higher hopes for sun.

I've been eagerly awaiting the first Cybertron video of regulation F! As someone who completely lost interest in playing VGC around halfway through reg D, I'm really hoping to see some interesting shake ups in the metagame with all the new and returning pokemon. I'm excited to see how snow teams fair with the new counterplay to Torn + Urshifu and I want to give Rillaboom + Zapdos-G another shot!

It taught me a lot about the importance of picking the right 4 mons during team preview and has really made my game better. Thanks again!

Oh hell yeah!! I've been fiending the end of Regulation E with the Regidrago hyper offense team and watching your videos while doing so the past few days, so this is perfectly timed!!
Personally I'm most excited for Raging Bolt, I'm excited to see how Ground-types are applied to get around that absurd Electric STAB, but also how Terrain wars could become even more of a thing to keep Psychic Terrain up to prevent Choice Specs + Electric Tera Thunderclap spam? Either way, I love everything about Raging Bolt and what it has to offer.
I've been so excited for Walking Wake, what a cool pokemon. Raging Bolt will definitely be great too, but at least there's been less of a wait to use it

Just caught my Walking Wake yesterday and I’m excited to clear the DLC’s to get the other pieces to try this team! Walking Wake has such a cool design to me and is a variant of one of my favorite Pokémon

Built a similar team to this. Insane how you can slap Walking Wake on a sun team and still have stab water coverage that is BOOSTED in sun lol. Sun will dominate the new meta

@@aquartertwoi mean obviously rain will always be viable with Torn/Urshifu but i think sun is way better in current meta with all the new proto mons, especially with walking wake giving sun teams water coverage now. Rain still has some good strats, i was just running a rain team myself a few days ago, it's just not as good as sun right now imo

Plus, Whimsicott being able to taunt Torn now means that rain isn’t as reliably broken as it was before.

I’m currently running dual weather Walking Wake and having an absolute blast. LilliKoal has been a splashable comp I’ve continuously come back to so far in SV, and Walking Wake completing that FWG core has been so satisfying

I'd love to see a hyper offense team that has 1-2 amazing setups/starter pairs and amazing damage to not worry abput defensive play too much

Nice showcase of the team Aaron ! Walking Wake is such a scary Pokemon! I run snarl on my Suicune team just to deal with it! I also think that Raging Bolt will be very good with thunderclap! It makes the Torn/Ursh teams easier to deal with! What other paradox forms are you excited for this format?

In game 5 I had Razor Fang Walking Wake. So I should have 100% crit chance.
The problem is that Dragon Cheeer grants 2 stages boost for critical only if the Pokémon is a Dragon type in the turn it receives the move.
Because I terastalized into Steel turn 1 my crit chance was only 50%.

I'm so glad walking wake is finally legal. I've wanted to use it since the event. Water/dragon is my favourite type combo for competitive battles.
QOTD: I think all of them will be at least decent, but I feel Gouging Fire and Raging Bolt are gonna be great. Raging Bolt countering Tornadus Urshifu and Gouging Fire having a burning protect on top of good stats and typing means they are going to have a ton of opportunities in Reg F. Otherwise, I could see Iron Crown being quite good as well.
Currently working on an all-dragon team that utilizes the new ones with Kingdra's Sniper, scope lense and Dragon Cheer. Gonna be fun AF.
Ive been using walking wakes ever since it was released. Using a move set of hydro steam, scald, weather ball and protect. Water tera and splash plate/mystic water item.
I've been using a slight variation of a similar team to this and I find whimsicott is targeted so frequently in the early game that it's quite hard to get both tailwind and sunny day up. So I've opted to go for speed boost for both Walking Wake and Flutter Mane to still guarantee that I go first.

Something to note, is that when your opponent in game 5 use dragon cheer, he cheered after they terastilized into a steel type, meaning they only got the plus one, not the plus two

The dragon cheer didn’t get the +2 proc because they Tera’d. Seems like a possibly powerful support move!
Walking Wake in the sun is the obvious choice of course, but I think it could fit well on a rain team as well. You do lose out on a bit of power by not being able to utilize both Protosynthesis and a Life Orb or Choice Specs, but Hydro Steam still gets boosted in the rain as well. And more importantly, it would make a very interesting check to opposing sun teams as they'd have to be much more careful about setting up their own sun.
I'm thinking Raging Bolt has some potential with its decent bulk, good sp atk and it's priority move, Thunder Clap.

I'm excited for Regulation F! For your QOTD and my favorite out of the new mons: it's Raging Bolt
Raging Bolt with its base 137 SpA makes Thunderclap almost, if not always, OHKO Urshifu-Rapid and 2HKOs Bulky Torns (outside of resist teras) so it's fun dismantling that offensive core with just 1 mon. I've been running it with AV and it's pretty much unkillable with its insane bulk. I like to think of it as a Special Attacking Iron Hands. The typing has a lot of great resistances and it may even encourage people to tera ground or make Landorus even more of a requirement for teams.
Dragon Pulse and Thunderclap are staples for me but it has access to Volt switch for the slow pivot while dealing good damage, Tbolt, Thunder if you have rain support, Snarl for slow chip and team support for longevity, EWebs for spread and speed control, Discharge for another spread, Tera blast for coverage, and even Hyper Voice for Throat spray if you wanted to.
Aaron! Any tips on transitioning from best of 1 to best of 3? Particularly in terms of finding teams that suit the format more.
QOTD - All of the new legal paradox mons seem like they’ll be strong in the right contexts, except maybe Iron Leaves. Raging Bolt and Walking Wake are what I consider to be the best, they’re just super consistent and splashable with no major flaws. Gouging Fire is a solid as a dragon dance sweeper or a bulky support mon with breaking swipe, and Iron Crown is psyspam’s best option outside of hard trick room now. I could also see Iron Boulder being a great sleeper pick. With booster energy it’s faster than almost everything, and with access to swords dance and a 100% accurate rock stab that can go through protect it can quickly become a game ending threat.

Happy to see Walking Wake being available in Regulation F. My favourite legendary pokemon has always been Suicune due to the majestic aura it gives. Walking Wake takes a far from majestic approach into its design while still resembling Suicune and I love it.
QOTD Gouging Fire is way to strong in the sun right now. Having access to Scale Shot and Protosynthesis is more than enough to sweep teams

QOTD: I'm interested in iron boulder I think its signature move mighty cleave will make it good considering it hits through protect, its also rather fast and gets sword dance.

QOTD: All of them are strong but I've been having lots of fun with Iron Boulder. Speed booster means its faster than almost every Flutter that isn't speed booster itself and threatens a non-protectable one shot. Pair it with Bundle for icy wind or Chien-Pao for sword of ruin and it just runs through things late game.

Two pokemon that I think have potential are Archaludon and a drizzle setter, bulky, lots of special attack, dragon steel is great, and its signature move can oko walking wake if in can get it off first
QOTD: I've been having a lot of luck with calm mind booster energy raging bolt. It's so bulky that its lower speed doesnt matter much, and thunderclap and dragon pulse after a calm mond do a ton of damage, no need to drop your stats with draco

I both love and hate the team. I love it cause I know it is the creative default for a sun team that we will see in the meta(rightfully so)however, I also know that we will be seeing this specific team over and over and over again for the next couple of months. As for the QOTD, I think the best new paradox is raging bolt. With its type combo plus electric sucker punch and good defensive bulk, I believe it will be so easy to splash onto any team that it will be all over the place(that or be underutilized because of how good iron hands is).
I think youre 100% spot on with 5 of the 6 pokemon. Unfortunately i think we are going to enter into an ERA reminiscent of CHALK which kills a lot of motivation for me to play
We'll just have to wait and see, but I do think that there's alot of equally playable archetypes this format. Rain will carry over from last format with Torn-Ursh, but it gets a new tool in Archaludon. Sun gets a huge boost in viability with the new paradox mons like Walking Wake. I expect balance teams with setup like Kingambit, Calm Mind Raging Bolt, etc. would also see play later in the format as the meta develops. TR gets a boost too with Expanding Force Hatterene. Then there might also be anti-meta teams to counter the FWG cores using Regidrago's Dragon Energy.
Again, we'll just have to wait and see, but it's likely a spicier format than Reg E that was just full of Torn-Ursh.
@xenonex1608 whimsicott always kicks torn out when it's available. Whimsicott is just a faster and better torn.
The typical team is almost guaranteed to run whimsicott, incin, and flutter mane 100%. After that I suspect chi yu will see a huge rise and then urshifu will most likely stay. The final is adjustable, but I forsee amoongus becoming a staple as well once torn is gone.

Iron Crown and raging bolt are my favorite. Terra water bulky Crown goes alright.
Im so excited for regulation F with all the new and returning pokemon. I think itll bring some more exciting variety. I want to try out all the new past paradox pokemon but itll be hard since theyre all dragon types (aka flutter mane's breakfast). I think all of them are really promising, but personally i love walking wake and raging bolt
Dragon Types are doing great rn tho. Look at the last few regionals, there are a ton of Regidragos, Roaring Moons, Salamence, and Tera Dragons Pokémon. In fact, in San Antonio, there were more Regidragos than Flutter Manes in top 8 (3 Regidragos and 2 Flutter Mane, albeit, Flutter Mane did win)
Flutter Mane while scary is pretty easy to remove.

Would it be possible to make a series where you make a video every new regulation with teams to watch? Like If you are new heres a team to help you learn. Heres a trick room team, heres an aggressive team, here is a defensive team. Might help get more people into the competitive part of the game.

Does Dragon Cheer still boost Walking Wake in that scenario as a dragon? He tera'd into steel first, then received the cheer, so was the crit chance up by 1 or 2 stages? Does the game consider him a steel type or dragon type in that instance? How would one tell?
I think Iron Crown will end up being the most impressive and threatening one but Raging bolt will be the most consistent and probably get more results. Both are strong
I played against this team in a limitless tour I won last night, it can be oppressive but surprisingly assault vest raging bolt deals with it quite well, however unless you have something fast enough or bulky enough to deal with it, it is a real pain
I'll use Walking Wake in the Blueberry Prologue Competition. I wanted to use it with a Protosynthesis Speed boost. How important is the Sp. Att. boost to score knockouts on this mon? I'm scared that with the speed boost it won't deal enough damage
1:03:44 Honestly Beat Up + Justified has become perhaps my least-favorite ladder strategy to face just because of Terastalization. There are a ton of variables with the lead and it's one of those combos where if your opponent has a surprise you can get just get dumpstered immediately. Obviously that's just the nature of blind bo1 ladder and Terastalization in general, but Terracott is a strategy that really exacerbates it imo.
