    Deadly venomous cobras belong to some of most feared snakes in the world. They are also ones of the most venomous snakes in the world. Red spitting cobra (Naja pallida) lives in Eastern Africa. This snake spits venom as a defense strategy. This cobra has bright red color and blends in to the dry savanna habitat. We rescued this cobra from a house and relocated it. If we did not come people will try to kill the snake. Bio-ken snake farm in Watamu (Kenya) milks snakes for venom and helps to manufacture antivenom. There is still not enough antivenom in Kenya and most other countries in Africa.

    I am not a snake lover, they scare the life out of me but, I have to admit, the Red Spitting Cobra is the most beautiful snake I have ever seen. I am 69 years old, and this is the first image I have ever seen of one. I watch Snakes in the City along with other documentaries about all wildlife including snakes but as I said, have never seen one before. Even I have to admit it is beautiful.

    Love how gentle they was with the snake when using the tongs and hook, allowing it to find its own way to safety with just a little coaxing, the cobra seemed so relaxed only spitting the once before retreating to safety, amazing job

      Thank you very much!!! We wanted to use the general behavior of many snakes - just going to shelter when they feel unsafe. If the bag is next to the wall they naturally go inside.

    So, I have to agree with the comments about the beauty of this cobra. I have never seen a snake caught in a video so easily, so peacefully, or so quickly. No fanfare, noise, or trauma. Absolutely fantastic. The poor thing found a comfortable spot and people freaked out, except for you and the crew. Great job. Great rescue. Great channel. The temperament of the snake was a surprise too. I do have to say, that given what these critters eat, I think I would rather have the snake around my home than the nuisances that these snake find delicious. I mean it is not like the snake is going to eat my food and ultimately poop in it, correct? It won't bring in disease that can spread to me, correct? Might be worth it. Don't know though. Great channel!!!

      I know, when they first said what they were trying to do I thought “there’s no chance in hell they’ll get that snake to voluntarily go in that tube & bag”. Boy was I wrong. Genius really. I couldn’t be more impressed with both their skill & dedication to protecting the snakes. They are truly inspiring.

    Fish can be stocked into creek and turn native by eating the native crawfish,darters,etc and even tone of water changes fish meat and crawfish changing meat pink.
    The Red Spitting Cobra drinking that Blood Red Soil puddle,through generations causes that beautiful pigment.
    I wonder if in one generation of being out of that environment would amend pigment?
    Like Black Mamba in captivity change to a Grey tone..
    Amazing this earth..

      Red spitting cobras have different colors according to soil color in that area. Not everywhere they are this red. They get lighter orange in some for example.

    When I watch the snake in motion I think the snake is not moving at all. It is just swimming through energy. Of course this one can spit too.
    I wonder if iron has anything to do with this. The soil being red and all, not sure.
    It aiming for the eyes is scary. Sometimes when I look into eyes of other things I believe I'm looking directly into a black hole as well. Poor little snake, it's actually scared. It has a black tears in its eyes.

    • @LivingZoology
      @LivingZoology  Před 3 lety +1

      Watching snake move is amazing, the work of their muscles is so smooth! Yes, the soil is red because of iron. Spitting cobras aim for the eyes so they can escape the predator. They are intelligent and very precise with spitting.

      The color is an adaptation to the habitat. Red spitting cobras in some areas with a soil of different color have different coloration.
