- This video shows how to make the simplest DIY soldering iron you can ever make, but provides you instant, super hot performance for your soldering needs. Graphite pencil lead, one plastic pen, two safety pins, a 12 V DC power adapter and insulation tape, these are the materials used. You can use this soldering iron for your domestic soldering requirement (but not for voltage sensitive electronics).

I just tried this and the graphite exploded into sparks just about 1 second after turning it on
What was the output on your power supply?
@@drewnashty I didnt have a meter to test it at the time, but probably way to high.
@@donaldrezell5475 Exactly. Graphite has a high resistancetherefore it must only accommodate low voltage. You must use a transformer or a power brick.

Hi, just did it with 12V-2A adapter but it does not even get warm. Any suggestions? All contacts are correct.

The short circuit protection acted, you put a so high current on it, the minimum resistance you can put on it is 6 Ohms, if the resistance of graphite is lower than this, your adapter turns off.

For all Who strughle with the voltage: Just make sure if you multiply the volts with the ampère you get 20 - 30(Watt), best is a 15 volt, 2A charger
If I turn 5v to 15v using a step up module do you think it's current would be 2A?
