    Fantastic series of videos on metal roofing. I just finished a metal roof on a barn I'm building and this info was very helpful. Some of the best I've seen on the subject. Thanks very much.

    Great job!! I've been doing shingle roofs for years, but customers are starting to want metal roofs, nice to see in depth video's like yours!

      Thank you! Once I started doing metal roofs, I never went back to doing shingles. Good luck!

    Love all your work on this series, but that water trick when you're putting the boot on really demonstrates you know what you're doing. Super attention to detail.

      Thank you! Learned that from a friend, actually. It’s really helpful in preventing from smearing the caulking around. Thanks for watching!

    Do you have a video for measuring & cutting panels for a valley so they look like a straight line from the bottom of the valley to the top ?

    Awesome videos! Have you ever run into a situation where the Gable trim lands on a rib? If so what is your solution?

    • @MT_Homes
      @MT_Homes  Před 5 lety +2

      I try to avoid that at all cost. That’s why I measure the roof beforehand and cut the first piece accordingly. On some roofs it’s unavoidable if they’re very crooked or have multiple gables/sidewalls in the same run. Luckily the metal company I deal with has 2 different widths of corners. 4” and 6”. 99% of the time one or the other will work. Thanks for watching!

    I saw you screw on the rib. Could you let me know why. Thank you. Very nice video.

      Thank you!
      Washers are the weakest part of a metal roof and I prefer to keep them high and dry in case they start breaking down over the years. Since the roof water runs down the flat I just don’t like the idea of punching a hole in the metal there. I’ve done it this way for 10+ years with great success.

    Please mention the brand and length of the snips you use, have not seen them in any hardware store locally. Thanks.

    • @MT_Homes

      They are more difficult to find for sure. Sears/craftsman used to be the way to go but they phased out. Now Stanley, Midwest, Lennox and Irwin make them, although they’re not as good as the original craftsman were in my opinion. My next pair is gonna be a Milwaukee. Hopefully they’re better. I buy them online, (eBay mostly) just type in “long nose aviation snips”.
      Here I talk about the different snips I use. czcams.com/video/2vVBXgEHCmw/video.html

    When screwing the sheets over the valley where should the screws be placed? At the edge of the sheet or edge of the valley metal?

    • @MT_Homes
      @MT_Homes  Před 2 lety +1

      I try to stay at least 4-5” away from the valley itself

    Great videos! Do you see the rubber boots on the furnace vent (metal vent) degrade over time due to the heat of the vent?

    • @MT_Homes
      @MT_Homes  Před 5 lety

      Thank you! They actually make a special boot for hot pipes. They’re orange in color which is not very appealing so I don’t use them unless I feel like I have to. This particular vent is a hot water heater vent and it’s a double wall pipe so I didn’t figure it would get any hotter than the roof metal would on a hot sunny day so I used a regular boot. With that said, I have not seen one degrade yet.

    Hi, how do you install a panel around a power pole on top of the roof? Do you cut a horizontal line over to the cut out hole for the pole in the panel to get it to go around the pole? Thanks!

    El 45 es para darle protecsio para el agua y el 35 es para k tape amigo

      Most people that don’t use their chimneys anymore want them tore down below the roof level. Next time I do one I will be sure to document it. Appreciate the suggestion.

    Did my metal roof today, just wondering if I should have put a bead of calk under the rake on the top of the roof on the flat part where you screw it down, or does much water get under it where the drip edge would be?

    • @MT_Homes
      @MT_Homes  Před 4 lety

      That’s a good question. I never caulk under the corners. Reason being is there’s usually a small or large rib underneath the corner. So even if water got under the corner it would have to go up over the rib in order to run off the edge of the roof. A bigger concern would be where the corner screws go through the roof panel. There’s no gasket between the corner and the roof panel which could allow water to enter there albeit a very small amount. So if anything I would back out the screws and put a small dab of caulking between the corners and the roof panel at each screw hole and re-install the screw.
