    Four years ago I lived in Charleston (actually Sullivan Isld.) and never dreamed there would be gold in SC. I now live in San Diego where there is some a little east of here and in the mountains towards Julian. I appreciate the info on the Saruca in a later video and plan to order one for myself. Keep up the great videos with your friends as these are good times for memories later!

    @Docdaugh I lived on Johns Island but knew there was gold in the upstate since the early 70's. Actually lived in California too. The saruca is a cool way to get a quick read on a creek or river. We are using it to "map" our new project before we start. I have lots of prospecting friends and enjoy and appreciate the company of each. Thanks for taking the time to comment Doc.

    i have only used that type for gemstones and yes small sapphires(different colors) and garnets. I absolutely loved that vacation ( over 10 years ago or so , and should do it again). I live in the middle of california and mainly hound for agate/ jasper and belong to the mineral society. nice to meet you!

    thank you , i had made a simular one with the loops that are used for nedle point- put a screen in then tightened it. it iwas a lighter wooden one, but had done the job. a square one that i used in montana while saphire and garnet mining was my first introduction into the world of mining with it. thanks for the great video and subbed to make sure and keep track of your other videos also.

    This one is 16 mesh stainless. The company that makes them also offers one in eight mesh. I'm not sure the mesh size is critical as the main purpose is to center and stratify the material. I recently "tracked" the source of some sapphires using the saruca. A handyman like you could easily make one. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

    That creek is unnamed. There are garnets everywhere we prospect but most are too small to cut. I found a creek in North Carolina that has nice larger garnets but haven't taken the time to see if they are solid and have good color. Stashed in a bag somewhere. Guess I need to dig those out. Could be cutable stones. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

  • @indyme2
    @indyme2  Před 12 lety

    I will make a special effort to look and keep any garnets I find that are large, good color and not fractured to death. If I find any, they are yours. I will also check in some of my ziplock bags. I saved some from some location not too long ago. I am in Florida right now getting beautiful agatized coral and agatized coral geodes. This has been a great trip!

    Gold is often found with black sand but black sand does not always mean gold is present. I panned a place recently that had so much black sand, the pan was almost too heavy to hold. Didn't find a speck of gold. In our area, black sand, garnets and pyrite/limonite are good indicators for gold. Good luck! Keep trying. You will find some soon.

    @philstat100 A good, cheap substitute for the green plastic ring is made from a five gallon bucket and some screen. One of my friends made one that way and it works great. Or you can use PVC but it is expensive. I even saw one made of wood. We aren't selling anything. We just like to share information and hope it will help others. More videos are on the way....soon, I hope! Work keeps cutting into our play time.

    You guessed it! We take the centers to look at through a microscope and then pan them out. The rest of the mound goes through the sluice we had set up nearby. Found some nice gold and sapphires that day. Thanks for watching.

  • @indyme2
    @indyme2  Před 12 lety

    Terry is calling them copper nails. Not sure if they are nails or pieces of drawn wire. Either way, the picture at 4:36 is an extreme close up, still shot, done with a macro lens. The green rock to the lower left, the orange rock above and many of the other rocks are much larger diameter than the "nails." If the larger rocks went through the number 8 screen, it is no problem for the smaller nails to go through too.

  • @indyme2
    @indyme2  Před 13 lety

    @edike Most of the larger and easier material was gotten by the early miners and most of the gold here is fine. You can do $200-250 per day if you dredge and put in some long hours. My best day was about $300.

  • @Bill1764
    @Bill1764 Před 8 lety

    If you want to improve the operation of the Saruca screen simply depress the center of the screen to form a inverted cone. With the cone in the center all of the heaviest material will work it's way into the center so that after stratifying the material fully just flip the screen over on a hard surface and you only have to check the cone shaped pile of material in the center. The heaviest material will be on the top of the cone and if you use a bright flashlight, any gem stones will be easy to spot. This technique has been used all over the world from Africa through India and the surrounding countries even in South America for thousands of years.

    The most common snakes are water snakes and black snakes. They are more afraid of you than you are of them. All the hissing is a warning because they feel threatened. I usually just move away and they will do the same. They like to warm their bodies in the sun on a warm rock. Never been bitten. Expect to encounter them, move to another area and keep digging for gold. Good luck with your prospecting. Let us know how you do! Thanks for watching.

    Didn't say it is linked to the American dollar. Hasn't been for a long time. American dollars are based on "faith." Also didn't say it was the first currency. Many things have been used as currency including stones, salt, spices, silver...etc. Gold has and still is universally accepted for value. Thanks for watching and commenting.
