- How To Get Rid Of Sun Damage With IPL | Hyperpigmentation On My Hands
As a kid growing up in Australia I have many fond memories of spending weekends at our local beach. It's part and parcel of growing up in Australia but after years of sun exposure and no sunscreen my poor skin really started to suffer. And now at 51 I'm dealing with the sun damage I inflicted upon myself all those years ago. While I've had quite a bit of IPL on my face I had never had any on the backs of my hands so decided to document the process. It turns out that the treatment was incredible and really transformed my hands by removing just about all of the sun damage. The treatment isn't for the faint hearted though because it actually kinda hurt and the recovery did take a little longer than on my face but wow the results have been incredible. In fact, I can't remember my hands every looking so clear.
I documented the entire process and you can see what it's all about in my video below.
Anyway, if you have any questions about the treatment that I haven't covered off in the video then pop them in the comments and I'll be sure to answer them.
Thanks so much for watching.
Leonie

My dermatologist told me that one of the biggest sun exposure our tops of hands get is when we drive! So keep a stick of sunscreen in the car and use it every time you drive! It works!
I had this done too. Every year I get a Limelight IPL treatment on both my face and hands. This knocks down 85% of any pigmentation I get over the year. Why slather on creams that do very little when once a year my derm doc does the job in under 30 minutes. The treatment costs me $350 here in Ohio and this is with a dermatologist Doctor doing the actual work.
Wow! That is great value. I haven't heard about Limelight IPL I wonder how it differs to regular IPL? Do you know?
$250? a bargain!!! Great results! Will keep it in mind for when I need it. Love your earrings, very youthful😊
Omg! Brilliant result. My hands are the same as your, boney and vieny(?) and I would LOVE to do this. I didn't even know it was possible to do. Thanks for sharing 😁😊x
Yes it's been such a game-changer for me :)
Do you have photos of your hands prior to the IPL? I would enjoy seeing those if you do! Im considering IPL for face, then hands.
Thanks for sharing, but I would have loved to see the untreated before so it’s possible to see the actual results.
Yes I forgot to add the before pic sadly. But they didn't look as bad as the pic on day 1 post treatment. It just show I had a lot of pigment just under the surface ready to show up.
Ya, WTF how can you not include a pre-op photo?? Obviously your hands are going to look better than they did one day after treatment. 🙄
Hi. You got such a great result. I too have pigmentation on my hands but no where as much and Ive tried IPL and a couple of other lasers and were quite disappointed with the results. Most of the pigmentation did not go. I've just had somemore laser and hoping for the best. My spots are still the same after a week. I'm in Australia and I'm really sick of spending money on Laser treatments.
Yes I would imagine that you'd be seeing a result after a week.
Wow! That's awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience!
PS That is an incredibly reasonable price! It would be helpful to see a closer shot of your hands before beginning the IPL treatment. I think you have lovely, feminine hands...
Marie B. Oh yes I completely forgot to include the pre- treatment pic 😩 I’ve always been self conscious of my large bony hands so thank you for your kind comment 🙌🏼
I just had a facial IPL two days ago. Always make sure to have them apply a topical numbing cream prior to treatment.
Perfect timing! I’m on day six of my second treatment and seeing your progression set my mind (and eyes) at ease. Thank you for posting.
Oh that's brilliant! Did you get your hands done too?
I did get my hands done. I’m thinking of having my face done in October, cooler weather days and all.
Love it! I had it on my face- bloody painful -but worth it!
Emily Walsh where did you have it done on your face? And how much was it? This procedure looks amazing!
Noelle Teller I had it done on pigmentation in a few areas on my face- $50 for one session (all i needed for a few spots that were bothering me) at accent on skin with Alana in Wellington.
Emily Walsh yes it’s not fun aye? I reckon my hands hurt twice as much as my face but it was definitely worth it tho 👍🏻
Remarkable results. I just purchased an IPL unit for home as I have severe discoloration around one of my ankles following an injury. I’m praying I have results as good as yours!
Hi, did it work for you?
What did they look like before the treatment. Nice results.
would it have made sense to show your hand before the lazer ? not after the lazer
Wow, this is so wonderful for you! Good for you, for taking care of your skin by rectifying the sun damage!😎🌴I like how you see it as an opportunity, as a fresh start!
Thank you! :)
Never hear about IPL, but the results are Fantastic 🤗
Really Happy for you xxx
Thank you :)
Wow, Leonie, those are amazing results. I'm going to check into getting this done here. Unfortunately, I think it costs much more here in TN, in the USA.
Anne P Conley thank you - I was thrilled with the results. Interestingly it’s much more expensive to get IPL on your face here too but for some reason hands are much more affordable. Could be the same in the US too???
The Style Insider gosh I hope so. WOW! Amazing! I had some sun spots removed on my hands face and arms. It was pretty affordable because currently I live in Okinawa Japan so it seems a lot more affordable than the United States. However, I would love to have this done because it seems like it does a larger area which is what I need. Can this procedure be done on the forearms as well? You mentioned that it's more expensive on the face. how much more? Because that is an area that I would consider doing as well. I need to have my face, hands and arms done but if it was a matter of cost definitely the hands because like you said, I see them all the time and they look very aged. Great video. Thanks for sharing!!!💗
Noelle Teller yes it can def be done on your forearms too. I need my whole body done to be honest 😩😂 my face needed quite a few sessions and worked out to be around $900 from memory. It’s def worth looking into tho as it seems prices can vary quite a bit 👍🏻
In Denver, Colorado, USA, it costs $275. I've had my hands, forearms, face, and upper chest done. Definitely worth it. Another side benefit is that the treatment stimulates production of natural collagen which made my skin look smoother and fewer of the fine lines.
Thanks for the info. I'm definitely going to check it out here in TN.
Definitely a great result! I have always had bony veiny hands too so you are not alone! I use a lotion called Amlactin on my whole body all year and it helps to keep my skin fairly clear of sunspots. Thanks for the video...very interesting!!
Good to know I'm not alone :) I will google Amlactin as I've never heard of it before and it sounds great - thanks for sharing :)
Beautiful results! Living in California, spending so much time commuting, I wear protective gloves while driving and try to completely cover my arms (in addition to wearing sunscreen). Does using IPL hide signs of skin cancer that a doctor might use to biopsy? I am confused about what is preventative regarding ageing vs preventative regarding skin cancer. Thanks!
Marie B. IPL is purely cosmetic but at the clinic I go to the women are registered nurses and are trained to identify any nasty looking skin spots. This is why I prefer to go to a medical clinic as opposed to a beauty clinic for this type of treatment. Does that make sense?
Makes perfect sense. Thanks!
Marie B. Great 👍🏻
I feel for the women in that part of the world. The sun rays are brutal on their fair skin. While in Australia I noticed young women in their early twenties with facial wrinkles. I was thirty and the locals thought I was twenty two!
Yes the sun is really severe in this part of the world and sadly when I was a little girl we didn't use sunscreen :(
Why would you not show the before and after, before your actual first treatment?? That didn't make sense at all! Also, did you enjoy the same results on your face?!
Lynda, did you not watch the video? WOW!
Just to be fair, I watched it over again, just in case I did miss your before and after, and I hadn't! As you show your before, and after your first Ipl treatment. But you never showed BEFORE ANY treatment pic's! That was my point. Btw... Other's made the same comment/observation as mine, so yes, I indeed watched it twice!
How many Treatments did you have?
What kind of IPL machine do they have? I know there’s a lot out there but I haven’t quite seen results like this. Curious on which IPL machine it was?
Thank you for this! I have used creams and potions that don't work! My hands make me look older than I am. Did your medical insurance cover the procedure? I never knew there was an option with such great results.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and yes I'm thrilled with the results. I don't have medical insurance so can't answer that one sorry :)
Hi Leonie...excellent resaults..good for you.....I know it is from our beautiful sunshine.....I dread brown spots on my hand..so I am a sunscreen freak when it comes to protecting them....I do 2 coats of spf..and even when just sitting in the car .especially longer rides....on a passenger seat...and sun coming through the window in the heat of the summer I cover my hands with my hat...or cover them with a white cotton scarf ..have a good one...jana x
Yay that's great to hear - I wish I'd done the same when I was younger :( But at least I do now :)
Wowwww! I have thought about doing IPL, both on my face and hands, but worried it might backfire and cause more pigmentation. You appear to have a medium skin tone…is that accurate? My skin is a golden medium.
I have had my pigmentation removed and keep my hands clear with lemon verbena olive oil lotion from Temecula oil oil company. I then use sun screen every time I’m out doors. I keep a suntan lotion stick in my car. Our hands are always in the sun in the car. No pigmentation on my hands for past 3 years of doing this. .
Beautifull results happy for you😍
Thank you :)
New to your channel 🐇Hello from Las Vegas 💝 I enjoy your channel very much 🍎 Keep those great videos coming 🎀
Princess Diva yay that’s awesome news thanks. Hi from New Zealand 😘
Wow, that's great looking hands.
Thank you :)
Nicely done!!
Thank you :)
You look gorgeous. Love ur makeup.
Thank you 😊
How long was the treatement process?
After how long still hurts since the day that you did it?
By about day three there was no discomfort at all :)
Have you had your teeth whitened? They look lovely.
Jan Lewis thank you. I did actually whiten them - I just have trays and gel from the dentist and use them whenever my teeth discolour - which is fairly often because a drink quite a bit of coffee ☕️
Now imagine this being your face 🤦♀️ I am day 2 and look like death. I know it’s worth it though! Thanks for sharing your awesome results
Wow that would be scary but I agree - the results will be amazing and long-lasting!
do you have a video of your facial treatment? in Japan in summer, many women wear long gloves and use parasols! as a result older women have lovely skin, not thick, leathery or wrinkled!makes sense, right?
Makes perfect sense - wish I'd protected my skin like that when I was younger. I am going to make a video on my facial treatment but I was just giving it time to really see the results. But I will probably make it in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned :)
We’re the results after 1 IPL treatment?
Yes 👍🏼
I have this done and from the crust it left a really red mark after peeling , should I worry about hiperpigmentation post treatment
Have you had only one IPL treatment or a serię?
Only one session on my hands 🙌🏼
we dont know how old u are...and....you should have shown your hands on the camera. otherwise it could just be some pictures of who knows who
