    No the reason songs have become so iconic is because the Sherman brothers wrote them...

    PL Travers was a prolific writer...perhaps the best way to honour her is to buy her books. Most musical adaptations vary from their literary origins...for better or worse. I loved Mary Poppins the movie. I saw it with my family as a child. We caught the red rattler into Melbourne especially. I thought it was so magical.

      @rudy melgar yes she was a complex person with a lot of baggage on her shoulder. But you have to understand this she had a hard Bittersweet life growing up watching his father drinking himself to death such a young age if you seen Her biography interviews and the movie Saving mrs. Bank, then you would understand still she loved her father and you can imagine that was such a big trauma for her. But something good came out of it she created a popular book series and became a Beloved movie love by millions

    • @noahlsmith2488
      @noahlsmith2488 Před 3 lety +2

      I am the same way about it. That lady was hateful and didn't think Walt Disney was one of a kind. But there was no pleasing her. No one would ever even known her probably if it was not for Walt. She belittled Snow White and the 7 dwarfs. I am sure Walt Disney wished he never promised his kids he would make Mary Poppins. He didn't know it would be such a nightmare. And I liked Mary Poppins but the original creator P.L. Traveler's ruined the movie for me. This lady would make a Pope curse. But then again since she hated the film so much maybe I will watch out of spite. No but seriously, ever since I watched Saving Mr. Banks I can't watch Mary Poppins. The real Mary Poppins was more like Traveler's in real life and it ruined it for me. Knowing the headache that Walt Disney went through to make Mary Poppins is crazy. I did a little study on her after the film to see how awful she really was. She didn't want anything done in America which means she doesn't like America. But to keep selling the rights and then taking it back. She was the only one that didn't like the movie. She didn't want a happy ending. But she was way worse then the movie portrayed her to be. She had so many enemies yet to herself she was above Walt Disney.

    I think it was wrong, on every single level, and maybe illegal, to make this musical. The stage version, not the movie I mean. Ms. Travers said in her will, that she wished that if a stage show be made, it not have the Sherman bros. and nothing with Disney associated with it...and this stomps on that request! Not cool!

    • @geoffdeanthemeparks
      @geoffdeanthemeparks Před 10 lety +7

      What you say is correct, but I had read that although she didn't want the Sherman Brothers to have any more input into the stage productions she would allow the existing songs to be used. I'm not completely sure but I'm almost sure.

    • @jennifermilano483
      @jennifermilano483 Před 10 lety +5

      Geoff Dean Yes, this is what I've read too. She didn't mind the stage show using the already well-known music from the movie, but she didn't want the Sherman's to ADD any new music, mostly because she did not like them and didn't want them to get any more money.

      If she had approved of any film version (she would have had to make it herself!), it sounds like the audience wouldn't have enjoyed it even though they liked the book. She preferred a stern, cold depiction of Mary Poppins, which does not sound fun to watch. ...I guess I would have to read the book to understand why people liked the character she created.

    If this person wants to know more about the making of Mary Poppins then the Disney movie Saving Mr. Banks will help. But this is my favorite Disney movie paired with Alice in Wonderland because are to deal with fantasy. But here's a fact that this person should know and that's Julie Andrews and I share the same birthday. This was Walt Disney's last movie before he died and was released on August 27, 1964. I use the instrumental from this movie for lots of reasons but still I love it.

In point of fact it was Walt Disney himself who made the ending focus on the redemption of the father. Not even PL Travers grandchildren much liked her according to Emma Thompson.

I never saw Mary Poppins til i was past 40 but I love the movie and I thought Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke were great in it. Disneyland is my all time favorite theme park and I wish I could go there all the time but its 50 miles south of me and I cannot afford to go or even walk around the park much anymore. Too bad Walt Diseny didn't live long enough to see more thing built at Disneyland..He died in 1966 at age of 65 from lung cancer...(all those cigarettes did him in. I do want to see Saving Mr. Banks but I am not sure it will be an accurate movie. I will wait til it comes out in Redbox and then make the judgement.
