Do finish nails hold the shingles on very well? I know Japan gets some wicked windstorms. Seems they would fly off pretty easy without a large head on the nail.

I'm worried those shingles won't last they seem awful thin and the nailing pattern looks odd.
I agree that and there should be felt paper behind them. That OSB will never hold up without a water barrier. Having shingled dozens of homes, walls and roofs, over the years I speak from some experience.
Because you know one way of doing something, doesn't mean someone else's way is wrong?

@@lucianatrambaglio4881 The Colour is Ok on the side and on the front either. It's about the shingles! The shingles on the sides are nailed on correctly, but the front is not done as it should be.
And: This is not a question of personal taste! It´s about technical correctness or not!
In that times, the people had to use shingles for building a tight proper and stable wall, they had to use them in the right way, otherwise, they could get huge problems!
It´s not a question of personal taste when the shingles are nailed straight from side to side, and upwards down too. It is something that´s dictated by the material!
To see the Front here, I instantly can see, that the shingles are just there for decoration
, and have no real function. But in ancient times, this was not affordable for the people. Every single part of the wood had to be used correctly, and no waste was allowed. The House had to be airtight for the winter, stable for the storms, otherwise, the inhabitants were prone to die! And to be dead is certainly no decoration!
And that´s the difference between talented DIYers and real professionals. An educated Pro learns to use the materials the right way - and yes! There is a right and a wrong way to use wood! Taste has nothing to do with it.
For example, You just have a board of massive wood! So, be aware, that this board has a right and a left side! And the right side of the wood, it the one that must be the one you see if you nail it to a structure. Or, you have a board and button surface? Then I see on youtube 99% that it is done the wrong way, how the people nail their boards to the beams! And NO! That´s not a question of "How the Builder likes it more because it is HIS Taste...
NO! It is a big shame to use Wood the wrong way! We have a responsibility for our children and grandchildren, in other words - to the people that come after us...
That's a thing people all forget when they build something!
That said... The difference is if your wood shows the right side on the surface or shows the left side can be - depending on the sort of wood - up to 50 years in durability! And that was more than a lifetime for a builder..in the old times.
No one wanted to have to rebuild his house at an age when he was nearer to his grave than to the Dance Hall ;-). Therefore they used their material properly and with foresight!
This isn't singles, it's an underlayment. The finish is still to be done.
@@Brucke You mean the Frontwall or on the sidewall?
So, as you did it until now, i have the impression that the Front is done. So said "finished" with the shingles as the Decoration, and the real Front is built with the OSB-Sheets...(Or did you use pallet-boards there? I don´t remember... lol..Aging is a pain sometimes lol...
And the sidewalls are finished with the shingles too, just in an other design - but technically correct too! ;-)
And, to close the circle: For my personal taste, the sidewall looks better for me! ... Did i express myself understandable now?
This is an old Japanese roofing technique. This thin sheet acts as a tarpaulin on which the roof tiles are installed.

I was actually going to finish it the same way as the sidewall, but I got tired of making singles lol.
