  • Tulunadu which is agrarian by nature has witnessed the practicing of several unique practices. However, while some of the practices have succumbed to the onslaught of modernity some others are on the brink of extinction. One such practice is 'Kambula Kori,' which is a form of Gadde Pooje (worshiping the fields) which is now observed only by a few households unlike in the olden times when Kambula Kori was very popular.
♦ Special features of Kambula Kori♦
As soon as the rainy season ends the older members of Guthu get together and decide a date to organize Kamabula Kori. Three days prior the Koragajja Daiva performer who starts from the Guthu house goes to every house in the village and invites all owners of buffaloes and farmers to Kambula Kori stating that Panjurli Daiva has given them permission to organize the same. The house members in return give rice, paddy, and betel leaves symbolizing their acceptance of the invitation and also a form of paying respect to Daiva and Performer. Two days prior to Kamabula Kori 'Dekkori'and 'Tadevu'is observed by the people belonging to the Nalike community, wherein they along with the members of Guthu go to the field along with band, valaga, sathige, kombu (musical instruments) and divatige (lamp) and play them all through the night until the next morning. This according to the elders is a way of awakening Mother Earth….. The process of playing musical instruments is called Dekkori and the waking up Mother Earth is called Tadevu. Meanwhile, in the Guthu house there are various daivas like Kodamanithaya, Panjurli, Kalkuda-Kallurti, and Koragajja daivas which are worshiped. After receiving permission from Daiva all the buffaloes enter the field and plough it till afternoon. In the Guthu house various pooja rituals are offered to the Grama Daiva and a Nema of Panjurli Daiva is organized. At the time when Panjurli daiva ties the ani it goes to the field along with musicians and mukaldi to the Kambala Filed. Simultaneously near the field Naga Birmer Daiva will be ready with Ani. In the field, people will decorate the Pookare Bandi with Kepula flowers and use a Palle to drag it near the ploughing buffaloes and thereafter Naga Brahma Daiva will accord permission for pulling of the Pookare Bandi. At this time all the villagers will participate in pulling the Pookare Bandi with jubilation. The Pookare Bandi will be then brought to the middle of the field and then Naga Brahma Daiva along with villagers will pray for a good harvest. A performer who will be with the Daiva will direct the organizers to perform all the rites and rituals. In order to protect the crops from insects and other rodents, a sacred thread of protection that resembles a snake will be prepared using coconut fronds and then tied to a coconut tree located nearby the field. As Naga Brahma Daiva's vehicle is a horse, a structure made out of coconut leaves resembling the horse will be tied near the field and then taken to the Nagabana. Later, Naga Braham Daiva will go to the guthu house and a nema will be performed. During the nema Nyaya Theermana will also be done and the nema culminates with a festive lunch. It is commendable that there are few households that have still taken that extra effort to safeguard such practices which have been the contributing factors in giving identity to Tulunadu.#gaggaraaround16holyrituals #indianculture #incredibleindia #rituals #daivaradhane #bhoothakola #mangalore #tulunad #travelmangalore #nammatulunad #tulu #dakshinakannada #gaggara #bhootharaadhane #holy #art #artist #performer #music #band #thaase #nagaswara #awesome #ancient #beliefs #viral #canon #videos #mangaluru #kola #nema #watercolor #demigods #god #faceart #kadabettu #kambalada_kori #kambala #pookare
