Apple's M1 MacBook Pro has been impressing us ever since we've got it, but Razer has created their own productivity laptop for the first time ever.
So far, the Razer Book 13 is super impressive, with a great design and a new 16:10 display.
The Razer Book 13 features Intel's latest 11th-gen chip featuring Intel XE graphics.
They've also fixed a lot of the issues that we complained about in our previous videos, so it's time to put it up against the M1 MacBook Pro.
In this comparison, we test and compare everything from the design, the displays, the speakers, the keyboards, the trackpads, performance, and much more!

@LALATE Beautifully said, I tell my folks these words everyday. good to save money but most people don't understand the market moves and tend to be misled in facts like this and always depend on money in the bank.
@LALATE Pure wise comment.👌🏻
The wild thing about the M1 is that it’s supposed to be a replacement for a Core i5. However it’s blowing 11th Gen Core i7s out of the water!
Yes! That’s the point that many aren’t understanding.
Or even i3 on the base macbook air lol
The only problem at the moment is how well anything outside of apple will be optimized.
Let's wait for the second gen. It'll completely blow i7 processors 🤣
The thing is the difference in cpu performance between the core i5 1135G7 and the core i7 1165G7 is only 4 megabytes of cache and 12% higher clocks. The main difference between the two chips is the higher graphics performance of the core i7 1165G7. That dosen't change a thing though. The M1 is still impressive. But was jut pointing out that the cpu performance difference between the core i5 1135G7and the core i7 1165G7 is not that high
Never thought I’d say this but the MacBook has the better value imo.
True 😂😂😂
Intel is f***ed, runs too hot and sucks power like a two dollar...
Everything except pc gaming, but that sacrifice is ok

@@RodrigoFerreira-bs6hd this is definitely not click bait. Click bait would be like ‘Razor- the M1 KILLER.’. The title leaves uncertainty and suspense for viewers not actually knowing if it is an M1 killer or not.

It's a good Windows laptop in all fairness. It's not a failure of Razer that it can't compete with the M1; it's a failure of Intel.

@@hereb4theend Yeah. Turns out all those benchmarks about Apple's Phone Chips crushing Intel x86 chips weren't fake. lol.
And still, when everyone makes ARM chips, they will still not gonna outperform the mac. The reasons are:

Touchbar is fun.. makes things easy..
Touchbar is good. The people who doesn’t love it do not know how to use it. It adds tons of functionality to the already great MacOS.
I was prepared to hate the Touch Bar given the prevailing commentary on the internet. But I use it and find it useful. Maybe because I don't really use function keys.
I don’t understand testing laptops plugged in. I want a laptop that will last and perform without worrying about a plug.
It’s why I do so much with a iPad.
Reviewers should emphasize battery performance and capabilities unplugged more. It’s why we buy laptops.
If the Razor had won every performance benchmark it would still be a no for me with only 6-7 hrs of battery life. I know my checklist is different than others but I will look at bezels and all the other stuff after I see how much it weighs and how long will it perform. If I’m stuck without power and it’s dead, it’s useless
sharing the same exact opinion right here mate
Agreed. Also, I want the highest battery life humanly possible from the start because laptop batteries degrade so quickly, making them virtually non-portable after a couple years without expensive battery replacements.
Yet when we tested unplugged we got tons of hate.. so we try to do both for you guys!!
@@MaxTechOfficial I understand. Everyone has different needs. I travel and I refuse to buy any more laptops with poor battery performance. I was hoping for that since the chips most certainly support it anyway. Maybe it'll come with the redesigned 14", 16" versions, like the recent iPad Pros
Razer:I am the best value laptop
Apple with thier M1 chip: Hold my beer
I don't think Razer have EVER professed to be the best value anything. They have always strived for a premium product, which is almost always counter to a high value proposition. Maybe if they were saying they had the best premium ultrabook then you could use the "hold my beer" adage (ok, not maybe, definitely in this case). BTW, I have just ordered a razerbook 13 because I wanted a premium Windows ultrabook (I just cannot stand macOS, it's not for me)

Besides the fact that I have to "search" for system settings in windows in general, I need to resort to trial and error to find the settings for e.g. change primary display ( had to do that just recently ) -> short answer: no way with windows preferences, you have to use third party graphics software to achieve that

How much better do you think the Razer book would be with the external gpu compared to the macbook?
Good comparison, just picked up my m1
The M1 still shows how revolutionary it is... better performance even through emulation at ohne third power consumption. Not even talking about native.
Well basically it's quite an unfair comparision. It's not an apple's to apples comparision. M1 is an ARM mobile chip. You know how powerful and efficient smartphone CPUs are. That same logic applies here. Someone who just wants a trusty laptop for general purpose with mix usage of everything, Mac is for him. It can never compete with the actual usage of a PC or windows laptop doesn't matter how good it gets. But yes, it's definitely a game changer.
@@scale...3d Why should the consumer be bothered about what arch their laptop runs? The only real problem is some software can't run under rosetta 2 and it's a really small percentage.
@@excore1322 Well dumb consumers shouldn't be but the ones who know should care. If you game, do a lot of video editing, 3d rendering and animation then the M1 Mac is no match for the PC and Windows laptops. And secondly, M1 is technically a Mobile CPU which means it can deliver that performance with utmost efficiency. No problem but the problem arises when you compare this with x86 CPUs and tell that they are simply not capable because M1 is an Apple chip. Like this really boils my blood. It would have a good comparision if Qualcomm releases a windows laptop with its own unique chip.
@@scale...3d You are saying that m1 is no match in video editing right under the video that shows 4x speed on macs... all right bro, cool story. Qualcomm surely would release its own laptop, the problem is it can't. Apple can, so it does, what is your problem, apple can't do what others can't? Why? What do you say about surface laptops? Why the heck is Microsoft allowed to release laptops with ITS OWN OS, OMG! And that same old phrase "blah blah blah arm only works in mobile blah blah blah". Even when apple releases a laptop that no one can beat in its value category. Even when amazon built graviton SERVERS, you know things that things like youtube run on. You think apple can't scale something between M1 and graviton? Whatever bro, continue living in your fantasy world.
@@excore1322 First of all, this video shows a windows notebook that's competing with Apple M1 and is head to head in almost every test if not beating it. Okay, I understand M1 is good but it's good under a specific use case scenario. It's for people who want a laptop to do a mix of everything from normal web browsing to some video editing. It still can't beat laptops like Alienware Area 51M or the Asus Mothership in Video editing or 3d artwork. Those applications simply run better on Windows until you use Final cut pro for comparision because that thing is fast but it's hell expensive too whereas you could settle with Davinci Resolve free version. It's like comparing iPad pro with Desktops , Windows laptops or Intel MacBooks. There isn't nothing wrong but because 2 things are different, it is not fair to compare both. Many windows laptops are made for gaming and if you are comparing them with Apple M1 MacBook and compare video editing times then you will be called an idiot. That simple. You can now bang the drums of your Apple Fanboyism as long as you want. These things are still not gonna change until now atleast. Maybe in future they can!
When testing them for gaming put your hand on keyboard ready to press wasd keys.
How much different would the score be?
Also fps capping with max graphics (and brightness) might be a better way for a practical tests.
Bro, your videos and content are amazing. Keep up the great work!
M1 blew away Razer in almost every aspect.I think Intel is no more competitor when it comes to proccessor performance.AMD can only compete with Apple for now.
M1 is a designed for a completely different use case with everything built onto the same chip including memory storage etc. I think this is the single major contributor to performance and power consumption. If they start supporting external memory and PCIE m.2 interfaces then the performance will come down significantly and power will go up. DDR bus and slots for memory itself consumes huge amount of power and affects performance a lot.
Whole industry will improve because of Apple

Can you make a comparison between the M1 MacBook and the new surface X? I am curious how running Windows on an ARM Mac compares to the ARM Surface X. Especially since the Windows one can’t emulate 64 bit yet
Hi guys. I think the multicore performance dropped unplugged on the razor (17:25) and did not go up? Cinebench R23 on battery
finally macbooks are value for money
You gotta do the XPS 13 vs Razer Book 13 next.
I will take bets on the outcome. I got a 2018 Dell XPS 13 for $1800 and it's just not good enough. Battery x2, fan x2, speakers and fingerprint reader all broke within two years. When my battery broke within the first year on warranty they didn't have any spares in storage so I had to wait for almost three weeks without a replacement unit. Underwhelmed with everything from service to performance to quality. I got an M1 arriving next week - first Mac for me, but I can't imagine it's not a better experience.
@2:55 The mac can open and log on also if you have the apple watch. Or the new face recognition that was talked about during the product launch. Should have mention it.
you can also change settings to allow Mac to open directly to desktop when waking up... an easy one time preference change.
@@Monty_BeGoodToEachOther True, but he mentions that the razor uses "Windows Hello" which is a face recognition tech that logs user in. So the equivalent are those two techs that I previously mentioned.
Hi Max, what do you use to get your MacBook to show the cpu and gpu on the top ?
TG Pro
I’m waiting for the 16” M1 MacBook to come out!!
When does it come
Me too, but I don’t think it will be an m1. But either m1x or m2
@@cloremancey2653 I agree
@@user-dh5fp4gw1b Probably Around February
@@zylantate1348
I’d say March
The best thing happened in 2020 is the new MacBook with m1 chip. It's awesome 🔥🔥
Yea I just want the 16” inc one to come out
Thank you guys for your honest comparisons! Using almost a week brand new MacBook Pro M1 16/256 Gb and I've never heard a fan and it's almost always cool. I am a mobile developer using framework Flutter, my "old" MacBook Pro 15" 2018 16/512 Gb could live only for 2-3 hours on a battery and new one - 15 hours!!!
Where can I find that Mac wallpaper??
Benchmark don't matters windows have more apps and stuffs than Macs .
That’s true there a are more than a few programs I use that have no date to if and when they will even support the M1 so that’s a big one for me. This includes trading software, and even some editing programs I am waiting for on the M1.
@@causativethoughts I didn’t mean about the mi I mean about Mac OS in general. A very power tool for iOS only work in windows
Honestly I wouldn't hesitate getting the Mac if it weren't for the fact that I prefer the freedom of Windows
In the end I didn't get the Razer Book as I couldn't really get it from anywhere local. I settled on a Dell Inspiron 7610 which is a productivity laptop with a dedicated RTX 3050/3060 GPU (I didn't get the Dell XPS because I don't have that kind of money, however I'm liekly to be getting a second hand Macbook for music). So far I have found it very good however I must warn that if anyone decides do buy this with an optional free Windows 11 update, I might wait because Windows 11 is super buggy right now. Everytime I plug in headphones, the whole computer flips out-the audio preferences get screwed up and the trackpad actually just stops working. The computer is great but Windows 11 is not.
What if you want to do Oculus Link with the M1 or play Steam games? The M1 does video editing and several other things well, but it is still limited by available software.
what does he use to see cpu temp for the Mac?
Cursed by Intel. Might have been a challenge for the M1 if it was an AMD. Sad that that's the best a Windows experience can get at this segment, price point, and build quality. I look forward to see if more manufacturers use AMD in premium builds in 2021
The laptops should not be plugged in, there is a reason we buy laptops, and this is so we don’t have a wire or so we can get work done on the move...
The test should be unplugged, then if you as an after thought you should be saying, if you happen to have access to a power outlet then this is what power you could possible have!
Not the other way around!
Yet when we tested only unplugged we got tons of hate, so we try to do both for you!
Hey man, straight up... you make fantastic videos. Excellent depth. I really appreciate your work!
Love these comparison videos. Please keep them coming. Thanks and and happy new year to you all.
Nice review like always, bottom line here, Mac is cheap, better OS, more battery life, silent, better keyboard, and thats with this first M1 chips, just wait next year with new design.
And better sound
I love the touchbar bro I really like the mbp m1 it is the best laptop for me
Hey man! Great video! How is the 10-bit 4:2:2 HEVC playback with the new Intel Iris XE graphics? It should support 4:2:2 now finally. :)
