Friends, I now only realized that it is better to place a magnet on the side of the handle! Then you can make the whole device shorter and the magnet will not interfere with the removal of the coil. See the picture - ibb.co/tLsV72y
And also offer your ideas of modernization!

grain ⚠️ God has said in the Quran:
🔵 { O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous - ( 2:21 )
🔴 [He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him]. ( 2:22 )
🔵 And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful. ( 2:23 )
🔴 But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.( 2:24 )
🔵 And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a provision of fruit therefrom, they will say, "This is what we were provided with before." And it is given to them in likeness. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally. ( 2:25 )

Better yet, put the spool assembly outside the other (left hand in the video) support, then you wouldn't need to move the axle in and out to replace a spool (which is the configuration I've seen in all the magnetic pickup winders I've seen)

Remember the coil can be a precision device, how it is wound is important. Check how a hiqh quality winding is made. Not taking anything away from this. but for results in sensitive circuits the windings must follow a procedure that ensures repeatability and precision. This is the first video here I've watched so I may have got it completely wrong, so sorry if I have.
I like the reed switch idea.

you can try to use a calculator... you press 1 + 1 and then = (equal)... the wires can be connected to the equal and maybe with a capacitor in parallel to avoid double triggers, it can be between 1 nanofarad to 100 nanofarads i say (just in case it becomes needed, not sure)
the reed switch can be bought to some electricity store as a window-open sensor for alarms (better ask for some infos there to be sure it's a normal reed switch)

To use a calculator is a good idea and might work, however the digital counter is not expensive to buy and seems to work very well. I am not sure if a normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) reedswitch was used by "grain" in the video. It seems to be "NO".

Add a slow rpm motor and a count-down clock that stops the motor at zero, you can pre-set the amount of turns. Also, cut the shaft inside the frame and put in a thick nut in to keep the two parts of the shaft together. make it easier to get the coil out.

Works great! I just hope you don't have a lot of coils to wind during the same session. You could modify it so you don't have to take it apart each time. Place the pillars closer together and wind your coils on the other side of the pillars. Another option is to have the outside pillar removable using a wingnut. Finally, you could dovetail the last pillar so it slides in and out easily. Or you're happy with the way it is and that's great as well.

So I took your advice and bought it.
Now how in the world do you actually turn off the unit?
The pause supposedly stops counting and suppose to also turn it off and then when you push the pause again, it suppose to start from where it left off.
The reset which the instruction is not very clear about it, you have to push the reset after you push the pause button in order to zero it out.
The only way I have been able to turn it off is by removing the battery. And that battery area is one tight hole as the cover just barely fits in place, just barely.
( I have hooked up the reed switch in the back where it says "counter" as per instruction)
By the way there is no mention how you turn it off in the link you have which is where I went. I found out from another vender, in their page about how it supposed to turn off.

But sorry everyone, the counter that sells amazon already has a sensor and a magnet, I don't see why you're using a weird red switch. Very nice idea but it must be modified by making sure that the two pillars are closer perhaps by inserting small ball bearings and making the shaft come out on one side so as not to disassemble everything every time. I'm building one then I'll post the video. Hello and congratulations for the video and the idea.

What are we attempting to measure? If its RPM of the sensor device, this is great. If we're trying to measure how much wire is on the spool, that's not so great. You'll never get an accurate notion of that with this setup. This is, of course, supposing you're try to measure anything. Maybe you're just loading spools with an unknown quantity of wire for later use?
