The Resume That Got Me Into Big 4 Consulting: czcams.com/video/_tAZCHWJ93U/video.html
Awesome video. I love how you have done a comprehensive coverage
Thanks!
Hey thanks for your videos! I watched your content related to the big four and it helped tremendously with reducing anxiety in my interviews. I recently accepted an offer from EY. Take care!
That’s awesome! Good job, and hope you enjoy your new role! 👏🏻
I found this very beneficial. I liked, commented and subscribed as directed. Thanks ;)
Thank you!
Very informative presentation thank you Edward!
Glad you liked it!
Very insightful. Thank you
Glad this helps many years later!
Great video!
Thank you!
This is helpful info.
So helpful!
Thanks!
Good video - thanks! Do you have a video on how to make the transition into advisory for experienced profiles (from industry)? Thanks!
Thank you so much Edward! This helped a lot.
Glad it helped!
Thanks Edward very interesting
Thanks for watching!
Great video! I just shared a video on whether your GRADES MATTER when trying to get into a big 4 firm! Gone are the days where the big 4 brand themselves as "accounting firms" - they are now "professional services firms" so the lines really are blurred from a service offering perspective.
I used to work for 2 big 4, the benefits is amazing and training is exponential. But I have no life. I resigned after 8 years and now I’m working for a regional firm, a different pace for sure.
Around 80% of my starting class is gone 5 years in. Similar reasons noted.
I am also a consultant in big four!
Awesome!
Thank you for the great video! I'm working for one of the Big 4 Tax right now. I'm really interested in IT advisory and cyber security. However, I do not have any technical background. Is it easy to transfer from Tax to IT advisory? What kind of skills I need to have?
The best way to transition as I’ve seen is getting in through IT audit, then building skills in cyber over time. I’ve heard of a few people that have done it
A Day in My Life as a Consultant (Working from Home!): czcams.com/video/r-zuA-dsZWc/video.html
Great video! How has the travel impact been on your family?
My family is understanding of the travel. Gotta call home often, at least once a day
Great video! How would you recommend someone become a tech consultant as an undergraduate in Economics . What qualifications and skills should I start working towards?
And demonstrate an interest to employers?
Much of your resume would need to be tweaked showing competitions, side projects, and challenges you’ve done. Here’s a list I commented to someone else. In some cases, given the strong demand, some companies may just interview you asking about your analytical skills and train you on the job.
1. Bachelors degree in IS, CS, MIS, CIS, CE, etc
2. Boot camps / training camps like USCC
3. Study a lot about security principles on Hak5, get security+ certification, apply as an analyst
4. Network with recruiters on linkedin and ask what it takes to get in coming from no experience but having high interest
Thanks that was very informational!
If I may provide some feedbacks to your videos, I would say these things will make your channel better ;)
- shorter videos, maybe broken into parts
- some subtitles or time stamps for the sections
- I watched your other videos and couple super simple tips that can help boost your channel, I would say
1) Better camera angle at your face level
2) Better mic
I appreciate the feedback! I’ll keep that in mind for the next videos!
Hi :) thanks for making such informative videos. I also work in Cybersecurity( IAM). Would love to know what are some the organizations in Dallas which would have security consultant roles ? I work with a bank right now as an IS Consultant
Many of them do-toyota, texas instruments, gamestop, american airlines, mcafee, usaa, verizon, at&t. List is quite long.

Hey Edward, great video! I have a master degree and one year of full time working experience in in house HR. I want to get into advisory (Tech preferably, if not, HR consulting). I have some consulting experience in school in a professional student org. But what do you suggest me to do to prepare and apply into consulting as an experienced hire? How likely can I enter as an outsider? Thanks Edward!
Network with some of the recruiters and let them know exactly what you told me. They may take you in as an Experienced Associate. Try to learn some of the security terms to be able to show your full interest.
@@EdwardInTX thanks Edward!
You’re welcome!
I am mechanical masters engineer. have 9 yrs exp in A&D program management. How do you think I can get into the Big 4.
Im coming in PwC as an experienced associate soon. Its in cyber defense and dealing w/ incident response. I have some infosec certs and Im hoping Im not just stuck doing ppts
There should be few powerpoints, maybe word heavy
How do you get into security consulting? As I’m working in the tech field. I have been in the tech field for about 7 years and wanting to get into cyber security. I’m currently working on my masters degree in cyber security.
Some positions only look for a tech background, like programming or system administration and will be willing to take you into security and teach you. Check out some of the job descriptions for Cybersecurity Senior Associates.
Hey! Out of curiosity - Have you seen someone transition from assurance to advisory/consulting at your firm? Do you know how likely they are to allow you to do so?
Not yet!
What will be a typical work/job of a Analyst in Advisory - Risk Consulting in kpmg?
I’m not in risk, so I can’t answer this one. I would recommend looking up that job title on linkedin and seeing what people put in their description.
Does Advisory requires you to be a CPA eventually? I'm assuming Tax and Assurance does. Is Advisory, accounting heavy compared to the other two?
No CPA requirement for advisory, and not accounting heavy
I worked for PwC and KPMG. Although this may vary among BU, country and office, the rule of thumb is that CPA is appreciated but not necessary. Plenty of partners and high-ranking people who don't have a CPA or passed the bar exam.
Really insightful video! Had a question - how is travel post covid? I’ve heard the big 4 have been pushing for less travel over the years. I recently got an offer but truthfully I am worried and do not want to join if I have to travel to client sites Mon-Thurs every week… how is your experience selecting projects based on travel preferences?
Travel is entirely dependent on the client you work for post-covid now. Some are asking for travel again, some aren't.
@@EdwardInTX Understood. Is it possible to select clients that have less travel? How much input do we have as consultants picking projects?
@@hassanrehan1382 Not as much as a consultant until you move up. If you live in a hub like Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta, DC, San Francisco, Dallas, those are usually aligned with local projects.
@@EdwardInTX I’m based in Dallas so this is great news! The position I got offered is Senior Technology Consultant but I put the offer on hold, till I got clarification on the travel part. I’ve never been a fan of flying out more then once a month 😂 Thank you for the insight Edward!
@@hassanrehan1382 Absolutely. I'd also recommend reaching out to others in Dallas with your same position on Linkedin (or Fishbowl!) to confirm.
thanks for the video. currently in my back half of undergraduate and am stuck between consulting and advisory. did you always know you wanted to do consulting, and if not how did you make the choice between the two?
Got it. I knew I loved tech and didn’t know I could get to travel and get paid handsomely for it. I actually thought I would be a regular programmer. I learned about the advisory path in college and here I am now.
would you consider yourself under advisory or consulting? still trying to get a feel for what each one is (it sounds like you are consulting though)
@@EdwardInTX
I think of myself as consultant in advisory. More advisory if anything. Consulting is like advising people, and the services I consult on are advisory. It’s tough wordplay lol.
hahaha okay got it. that is tricky
Hi @
EdwardInTX, is there penetration testing jobs in the big 4 companies?
Yes there are
idk if it's true that consultants make substantially more than industry especially at the staff/senior level given big 4 don't give stock options. At manager+ you might be right, but you're also working avg 60+ hrs compared to the 40 in in industry.
Correct! The way to get paid better than this is by getting into MBB (Mckinsey, BCG, Bain) or a FANG (Facebook, Apple/Amazon, Netflix, Google) company. I do agree on the fact that manager+ get paid nicely here. Otherwise, many other companies I've seen are just on par or a bit lower, and have substantially smaller raises.
Can you explain the difference between IT advisory and IT consulting? Do firms differentiate between these, or are they the same? I'm referring to Big 4 companies.
IT Consulting falls under Advisory. Advisory is catch-all for consulting services. For reference, there are three main branches in Big 4: Assurance, Tax, and Advisory.
EdwardInTX Hey, so after watching your videos to prepare for a consulting interview - I got the job!!! I started this month and have an engagement!
Is there a difference between a Consultant and an Engineering Advisor?
An advisor essentially is a consultant
Hello Edward, can I email you if I have any questions ? I am currently applying and I have got a call from a couple of them.
Sure. Check my about for email
Does associate under technology consulting in Pwc requires travel
Plz plz reply
Yes
whats the difference of big 4 vs Mckinsey Bain BCG?
Big 4 encompasses advisory, tax, and assurance. MBB focus on strategy.
EdwardInTX isn’t advisory strategy?
@@karlaxel7358 Strategy is a part of advisory. Advisory is huge. I'm in advisory, but not strategy.
2:10 But do you get to build a better working world?
At the entry level, do you think the growth opportunity is worth it, if you will make 20% less than starting in industry?
Depending on the project, yes. As for growth, you’ll see your 20% in 2 years as a high performer. You can jump to industry afterwards for another 20%.
15 days of vacation? Damn you get 30 in europe.
villegas24 yep the way it works is 15 days and 12 holidays. 15 becomes 22 after 1 year 😂 definitely different from Europe
