    So glad you did this. My Dad's lawn sprinklers were a hot mess...watering just about everything in sight on the front of the house. I was able to fix the only overthrow in the back yard using the fantastic explanation of the way the maxi paw is tripped to create the angle of spray. Hooray! The water no longer attacks the back of the house!

    Thx for a very helpful video. Had no idea what the diffuser screw did. I had bought some Low-Angle (LA) nozzles because my Paw's have too much throw especially downhill. Diffuser might do the trick instead. I wish this video had was a demo of how to take off & replace the nozzle itself. I get how I need to do a quarter turn counter-clockwise but still can't get the (standard blue) nozzle on mine off.

  • @pmcrawler
    @pmcrawler Před 10 lety +1

    In Florida, you have a lot of small shells in the soil. When the head retracts, the shells get into the pj tube (the bent plastic arm that goes back and forth to turn the head). If there is any debris in the bend of the pj tube, the maxi paw won't turn. It is hard to see if there is anything stuck in there but I take a plastic tie strap and push it throught the bend in the pj tube and usually this clears out the shells or debris that get stuck in there and the head starts working again.

    • @Iscaper
      @Iscaper  Před 10 lety

      That's one of the problems with Maxi-Paws, sticks and debris getting into the body and stopping the trip arm. You might want to try a Rain Bird 3500 or 5000 series rotor, they wouldn't have that problem.

    Watch the video again at around 5:40. Try this a couple of times manually to see if the head will start tripping. If the head will only water one way and then it stops, you'll have to replace the internal assembly or the whole head. This is a fairly common problem with the Maxi-Paw.

    • @Dalepuywa
      @Dalepuywa Před 3 lety

      Actually, you never mentioned changing spring tension based on nozzle selection. From factory, with Blue nozzle, I found spring set to wrong tab. See instructions that come with maxi-paw before replacing whole internal assembly. Spring tension controls amount of impact force and hence rotation.

  • @Iscaper
    @Iscaper  Před 12 lety +2

    The nozzle isn't easy to get out. Pry up gently on the tab that locks it in place with a small flat blade screwdriver. You might break the tab. If you do don't worry, just go ahead & remove the nozzle. Note: You won't be able to use this nozzle again.
    Push the new nozzle in with the opening in the tab below the small ridge that locks the nozzle. Rotate nozzle clockwise until the opening in the tab locks in the ridge.
    Let me know how this works for you.

  • @TrippKnightly
    @TrippKnightly Před 12 lety

    All 8 maxi-paws on my system have the blue nozzle, and the diffusion screws are part of the rotor, not the nozzle on them. If you look at the LA nozzles on Rainbird's site, they have the diffusion screw too, so it's not like I bought nozzles from say 20 years ago pre design change. Very strange... not sure how you could use the LA if diffusion screw already exists as part of the rotor WITHOUT doing the Dremel-off like I did. The exiting diffusion screw seems to work w/ the LA.

      If the middle pin is pointing up, then it does not get restricted by the 2 other pins and goes full 360 circle..

    • @Iscaper
      @Iscaper  Před 10 lety

      Yes you can put a spray head where the Maxi-Paw was, but if all the sprinklers on that zone are Maxi-Paws I wouldn't change that one head to a spray head because the precipitation rates are different. If possible you don't want to mix heads on a zone.

    Hello, can this Maxi Paw Rotor be used with a 2- inch gas pump outlet irrigation line? The pump has about 94 psi or about 135 gallons per minute. What size sprinkler line or water supply pipe should I use? Thank you.

    • @Iscaper
      @Iscaper  Před 5 lety +1

      At 94 psi you might get some misting using the Maxi-Paw rotor. If possible I would cut the pressure down to 75 psi. A 2" PVC Schedule 40 pipe will give you around 50 gpm (gallons per minute) in flow and will keep the velocity around 5 fps (feet per second). If you use 2" valves and pipe for your zone lines you could install 17 Maxi-Paw rotors per zone. That's if you're using the 08 (blue) nozzle that comes with the Maxi-Paw. The 08 nozzle uses around 4 gpm at 60 psi, and will water a distance up to 45'.
