- Airplane food is probably the ONLY part of travelling I'm not missing right now... but if you make it first class, that's a whole different story. I ordered an actual meal from the official British Airways airline chef... and let's just say I was surprised when it arrived to my house! It wasn’t the chefs fault but Ralph’s , the moist of the wet box he put in the refrigerated x he wasn’t ment to refrigerate the box only the ingredients lpl

Fun Fact: An airplane cabin is actually drier than some deserts with humidity measuring at less than 12 percent, in some cases. In an environment like this, your taste and smell start to drift. Scent actually starts to deteriorate even more as the plane starts to climbs to the approved cruising altitude of between 31,000 and 38,000 feet. Sweet and salty foods suffering the most with all of those other flavors spicy, bitter, and sour still making an appearance mid-flight. Now many modern Airlines will accommodate for this lose of sweet and salty by doubling up on the amount of salt and sugar that is called for in each recipe.
Interesting! Did not know that. I feel like they should tell people that, especially those with high blood pressure or diabeetus.
$100 and the vegetables are moldy and products aren't sealed.. thats horrible. I'm glad the food was good but they really need to check their quality control!

That last aubergine came from the back of the box. He showed us where his fridge had made the back of the box soaking wet. The box wasn’t suppose to be refrigerated. Only the stuff inside what is called the “blanket”. That moisture from being in the fridge caused that to happen unfortunately. Hopefully he doesn’t put it in the fridge next time.

Most likely popped open from the other heavy tubs in the package. Nothing to be sus about.

I love how you are put off by the fact that you "have to" cook everything yourself but then as time goes by you enjoy it more and more! I believe that cooking is therapeutic and I still enjoy doing it in my free time even if I have a stressful job as a chef. Also that guy who wrote the instructions to this is a genius!

Strangely enough, I always eat well on the plane. I don't know why, but I'm a happy/content eater in the air and eat it everything, right down to the last crumb.
I am never hungrier than on a plane, I eat until I fall asleep 😴

Yes airplain food is actually good 🥰 but your not able to taste it when your at higher altitude because of the difference in the amount of oxygen and the air pressure in the cabin.

It’s not just airlines that have been doing boxes like this throughout lockdown. My brother and parents got boxes from the chef Rick Stein that came with all the ingredients and then you had to cook much of it. These type of boxes have been very popular. They make a good experience as you put it.
I know there's a few that are completely cooked as well
Once I was invited by an airplane company to taste their new first class meal. Soo delicious. I don't understand why plane's meal don't taste as good on board..
Because plane food is already pre-cooked and not as fresh on land, it's just reheated stuff. The only airlines where the onboard first class food is of optimum quality are: Etihad, Air France, & Singapore Airlines. Etihad is one of two airlines that actually cooks their food on their aircraft.
It’s actually because the altitude and pressure while your on a plane alters your sense of taste and smell so your less sensitive to the flavours in the food while in the air.
Thai Airways opens a restaurant. With plane seats. So yeah.
And of you order the delivery, the actual crew member delivers it to your house. Helping staffs during the flight suspension nowadays

The water damage to your box is from hoarfrost or water droplets (it depends what kind of a fridge you have). You must have put the box all the way to the back of the fridge and the cardboard soaked with water over time.
You say the aubergine is moldy. I think when the fridge back wich can get condensation on it. The box got wet that aubergine was next to the carbord it got wet too mold started to grow.
You should try to get a Hellofresh sponsorship; one thing a lot of CZcamsrs mention is how simple and easy their instructions are, and I dont mean to be insulting when I say that if you can manage to actually make the food without messing up, that would be the only way to convince me of the quality of said instruction.

Honey canned lentils are presoaked & have fully absorbed seasoning. They don't requiring soaking prior to cooking to avoid a long cook time, but lentils need to be soaked anywhere from a few to 12 hours if you want to more easily digest them without complications causing upset stomach & gas. Do you really want to be stuck on an airplane feeling like that? Chickpeas need to be soaked overnight prior to preparing so again they need to be canned but it doesn't do anything to take away from the flavor & believe it or not a lot of chefs use canned items especially in a pinch, canned Chickpeas is the route a lot would go if deciding to make humus unless you want to start preparing your potluck contribution the day before the potluck, it's quite a lot of work.

I agree with the people who said nothing should've been unsealed or molded for that price, HOWEVER, I think this was worth every penny considering how proud of himself he was.
Note: I don't think the eggplant* was molded. I think it was the wet cardboard stuck to it from where the box got wet.
