Hello friends! Today I'm sharing a sewalong for the Comfi Tee Pattern, and then showing you how to easily hack it into two new styles. We're basically using the pattern like a knit sloper to build new patterns without having to BUY more patterns. In this video I'll show you how to make a basic fitted tee, a simple tank top, and a lovely square neck top. Hope you enjoy it!

I have always sewn for myself. But never really tee shirts. Which I love. Last night I used your tutorial to make a tee. It came out perfect. Thank you so much
Oh yay I'm so glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
@@PatternScout as an older person, they don't really have tops for us that really fit right. It usually makes us look frumpy. We like to be comfortable and stylish. And your tips help 🙂. Thank you
I love this shirt!! I just made my second one. I love how using different material and changing the necklines gives you completely different looks. Thanks so much and these are fun to make. Great tutorial and pattern!!
I'm so glad! Thanks so much for making it!
Thank you Casey for all your well paced sewing tutorials! 😘
Thanks so much for watching--glad you enjoy them! :)
Wow! It seems so easy with you. Ahahah! Stretchy fabric is difficult to sew. Thank you so much. I loved the tips and everything else. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Some fantastic tips which I will definitely take on board. Great tutorial yet again. You certainly have helped in giving me confidence with my future projects. Thank you 🤗
Aw I'm so glad! Thank you, Vicki!
Wow I am buzy with one and this video is just up my ally. Thank you soooo much. Love and learn so much from tgese videos.
Thank you so much for watching! :)
Great ideas to take patterns further!! Love the square neckline.
Thanks! That square neck tee has been my wardrobe workhorse!
Love this video and all the Tshirts turned out beautiful, you make it look so easy and fun. Thank you
Casey, I have SO been enjoying your videos! These Tees are great! I appreciate the square neckline and how just adding the lining to the bodice (and elastic-clear?) really helps to just stabilize that shape!.I have run into the dreaded stretched out square neckline w sewed on binding where i had to add darts into the corners so it wouldn't droop! This technique alleviates this! Thank you!
Thanks so much Theresa! The elastic definitely helps a lot! I recently made another square neck tee with a binding and made the binding a little shorter at the front to keep the neckline taught and it worked like a charm. Love these square neck tees! They are my go-to in summer.
ironing the hems before sewing the side seams together is GENIUS
also love the square neckline, loved it on you in the videos I've seen and I'm really grateful for the tutorial :)
So glad that was helpful! :)
Gosh Casey, you make it look so easy to do im learning a lot ,love the square neckline
Ah thanks so much!
Casey, great ideas. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you! :)
Thank you so much for sharing this, very helpful.
Thanks for watching!
Hi there! I'm new un your channel and I really love all the patterns that you teach. Would you please show how to make a " short princess sleeve? Thank you. 😀
Ahh I so love that camouflage fabric! I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for similar whenever I make a t-shirt 😍
Enjoyed finding your channel and pattern line, especially that are PDF. Wow. I also follow an Australian blogger, and know how to sew, but have not been doing much lately. I have a Simplicity pattern picked out in a very simple dress and coordinating blazer to make this spring. As an older lady, short and plus size,, not sure how flattering your styles would be at the moment. Enjoy your energy.
Thanks so much for watching, glad you found me! :)
Wow all those tees are great. Thanks I want the pattern.
Thank you! :)
On my way to purchase the Comfi pattern! I'm going to try that square neck hack. :)
Thanks so much, Jacqueline!
Thank you for this video.
Thanks for watching!
These are great! I really want to try the square neckline too but only have a machine that can see zig zag stitch. Would this still look nice? Also which setting would make the stitch small enough? Thanks!
Absolutely! A zigzag stitch will work great. You can play around with the width and length to see what you like best, but I usually start with about a 2 mm length/width stitch. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching! :)
I just purchased the pattern and am excited to try. Do you recommend stay stitching the neck?
You are an inspiration Casey! 🌸🌸
Aw thank you!! ❤❤
Very. Good .! Thank you .I like your sewing .👍👍👍♥️
Thank you!
I’ve noticed that all the tee shirt patterns I’ve seen have the neck and seam at the centre back neck. I always use the same method as RTW and line my neck and seam up with one of the shoulder seams which makes it much less noticeable.
I've used that method before and prefer the seam at center back...it's a symmetry thing for me 🙂
Heyyyyyy KC you are amazing I wish you for the further improvement of this channel
Thanks so much! :)
These videos are great! I am so envious of your skills. I am also watching your subscriptions increase quickly! As a beginner, I think buying fabric is hard. I know patterns suggest fabric types -- but I wish you could have a link to the fabric you use in your videos. We have a JA fabric store, but I don't think the quality or selection is that great. Buying online you can't feel it... Maybe you have a video on this already? I'll take look... Thanks so much for the instruction and inspiration!
Thank you!! I do buy a lot of my fabric at Joann because it's convenient and I'm usually able to find decent knit basics and linen/cotton on occasion. It's a toss up! When I know more specifically what I need I'll shop online. I did a video several weeks ago about my fabric shopping tips ;)
Love love love.
Would love to see the top you’re on in the video. Beautiful.
It's McCall's 7969 ❤
Love your videos!
Thank you!
Hey Cassy, I'm not used to shopping for fabrics on line, a bit nervous about it. Need to make a tee. I re-watched your video hoping you'd tell us where you got the camo fabric? Its the exact type of fabric from which I wanted to construct my T-Shirt.
I bought that fabric at Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago and I'm not sure if they still have it (HL is the only fabric store in my home town when I go to visit my fam, so I don't go there often). It is a jersey knit I think. Hope that is helpful!
@@PatternScout Thank you.
Fabulous 🥳
Thanks! :)
Hi there 🙂 I'm a beginner, can you please explain why do you need stretch needle for the zigzag stitch? How is it different from the regular needle?
Of course! The stretch needle is best for stretchy knit fabrics because it has a tiny ball point that works better on knits (helps prevent skipped stitches or snags). And the zigzag stitch is just a type of stretch stitch so that the seams can stretch with the fabric. If you were doing a zigzag stitch on a woven (non-stretch) fabric, the stretch needle isn't necessary. Hope that helps!
@@PatternScout thank you!!🙏
Can you teach me how to sew a paul jacket
Whee did u buy the folding ironing board?
I found it at Hobby Lobby, but last time I checked it wasn't available any longer :( It's a great little ironing pad!
Measure the arm hole minus the seam allowance? Do you mean the seam allowance at the top and the armpit? Sorry, I'm a newbie.
You want to measure the circumference of the armhole at the seam line (so about 3/8" in from the armhole edge around the entire perimeter to account for seam allowance). This way, the binding will be cut to a length that fits the seam line and not the unfinished edge of the armhole. I should have illustrated that a little better in the video--sorry that part was confusing! Let me know if you still have questions. :)
@@PatternScout thanks for answering! I think I get it now...my imaginary seam line...and then I still need to add seam allowance to the width of the binding...right? I forget how to know how much width.
@@brendashenda4249 Exactly! :) And yes, you'll decide how wide you want your finished binding to be and add the seam allowance twice (since it will be folded in half).
@@PatternScout ah! Twice! Right. Thanks 😀 you have me believing I can make this tank top!
@@brendashenda4249 You totally can! :)
I’ve had trouble with the hem rippling or stretching on cotton knits. Do you use stitch Witchery or some type of fusible stabilizing stuff to stop that from happening?
I have less trouble with it when I use my serger or a twin needle on the sewing machine. The zig zag stitch can sometimes make mine more rippled, but I'll usually hit it with the iron to kinda shrink the seam back into place. If I have an especially finicky knit I'll sometimes use wonder tape which helps a lot and eventually washes out.
@@PatternScout thank you!
I need you to say bodice a few more times haha
Hi Casey, why do you fold part of the pattern in when making a tank top? I'm still new to sewing.
Hi Leandri! I folded it in so that I could have a tank with a more narrow shoulder (otherwise it would have been more of a sleeveless/muscle tee vibe) :)
@@PatternScout thank you so much for the reply!
👍❤️
Where did youo pick up your ironing pad?
I found it at Hobby Lobby, I love it and use it all the time!
