  • I know finding linen fabric within a budget can be difficult, so today I'm sharing my number one source to linen fabric for sewing when you haven't had luck at the thrift store! I've used this many times and have yet to find linen at this quality cheaper!
    I hope this video encourages you to think outside the box when it comes to fabric. Looking for duvets in fabrics I love has been a wonderful resource for me vs. shopping fabric by the yard.

    The best and cheapest 100% linen I have found is in Perú (where I'm from). I can get it for some cents over $6 per meter. Beautiful colors, beautiful material, a pleasure to work with. There's a district in Lima, Perú, calles Gamarra. It's basically streets and streets of fabric and notions. If you're ever in Lima, Perú. ☺️

      @@MeryAnn-vv1ih You cannot. Unfortunately. They don't ship. You can only get it by going there yourself and getting it, or by having a contact down there to send it to you.

    I have found shopping local thrift stores to be my best resource for finding great linens at a economic price. Duvets, sheets, clothing at a fraction of the cost any where else. Most dresses are $6 to $12 each. Duvets are around $10 dollars. Bed sheets are $2 dollars each on average. They don't come along every day, but I have luck at least once or twice a month. That's giving me enough to work with. 💖

    Another resource is Fabric Mart during a linen sale, which they have all the time. They stock up on linen during the summer. Sometimes can get it for $8/yd. Often $11-12.

    I love linen too!
    Burnley & Trowbridge Co is another great source for linen and other natural fibers. Most of their linen is $14/yard.

    Love this! My exact thoughts! I did the same thing with my king size duvet cover because it got ripped at the top and I wanted to replace it anyway but knew it was going to be the best fabric to use for a dress and some other things I want to make since it was soft already :) sooo good! Loved what you shared

    When speaking about linen and making garments it is very important to mention the ‘weight’ of the linen. Not all linens are the same. Many are extremely thin and would not work for almost any clothing. Perhaps some might work if one is skilled and willing to line whatever garment it is. For those who are newer to sewing they might not realize there is such a difference or range of weights/see through quality.

    • @RooneySewingPatterns
      @RooneySewingPatterns  Před 4 měsíci

      I agree, there are many different weights for all fabrics! I didn't note that in the video but I try to share it elsewhere. I think thinner linens drape really nicely and heavier linens can feel bulky but it really is what you want the end goal to be :)
      Thank you for pointing this out, it is an important note!

    Thank you for sharing such valuable information, natural fabrics are getting extremely expensive. Few years ago I found many men shirts made from linen at a local store, only paid $2.00 us for each one, they were huge( size 3X )I used one shirt to make a beautiful skirt this summer and still have leftovers ❤

    I did happen to find some cotton polyester new sheets at a thrift shop for practice sewing ha ha. Thanks on the duvet tip. I would prefer that over used sheets. Because of duvet would be cleaner I would think.

    Weight of Quince duvet linen?

    • @RooneySewingPatterns
      @RooneySewingPatterns  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I'm not sure as it isn't listed on the website but comparing the linen I have from them to some from Blackbird fabrics and other fabric stores, I would estimate it at 5oz weight...but that, of course, is my guess!

    Linen and wool were the Proverbs 31 woman's go to fibers! And silk i think...

    • @susanbarnhart1616
      @susanbarnhart1616 Před 2 měsíci

      Silk has a low frequency because of the killing of the silk worms and it's also harder to take care of usually.

    I have learned over the decades that 100% linen is the best. Not the easiest to care for, but best for our bodies. Everything on the earth has a vibration. Linen is very high, about 1000. When you mix it with 100% cotton which is 100, it reduces the higher vibration of 1000 to almost 100. So if anyone cares about that, look it up. My husband used to wear a lot of polyester and cotton blends and he now agrees that 100% cotton is much better. I've been doing this for about Twenty years, him about ten years. That's what the Bible yalks about to not mix fabrics in your garments. For your information.

    It was against the law to combine linen and wool in a garment (Mosaic law). Not saying it's a sin now (no longer under law because of Christ). Someone told me combining fiber neutralizes beneficial ionic charges from fiber... Or something like that. It's just interesting to me. There's so many reasons for God's law though at first glance it might seem meaningless. Take the Sabbath for example. Scientifically, they have proven that 1/7 rest/work ratio is most beneficial for humans (not 1\4 or 1/10). Some of these ratios have been actually tested on populations.
    ‭‭Romans 7:12 KJV‬‬
    [12] Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
