This is a beautiful RC model of DC-3 / C-47 in. Flugfélag Íslands (Air Iceland) operated DC-3´s from 1946-1972 in this color scheme.
The builder of this model is Sturla Snorrason. See his work on the DC-3 here:
rcsturla.com. Email: sturlasnorrason@gmail.com.
Here is Sturla´s description:
"This model is more than a simple piece of shiny real aluminium work. It's in perfect 1/8 scale, nose, engine house, tail, length and wings are all in 1/8 scale. It has the right airflow for all the steerings so it has realistic flight. It was made by my own design, as all other designs I found out there were out of scale on some parts, and as a big enthusiast of this plane that wasn't simply good enough for me. It was an incredible experience to see it take it's first flight back in 2014, it took total of fifteen flights. Since then the aluminium has been polished and it's interior decorated. I've spent over 1500 hours on making the model and around half that time went on the aluminium alone. Now it's fully finished and ready to fly again".
He has also made a 1/8 scale PBY Catalina. He is selling blueprints and custom made landing gear. The song is "The Engagement" by Silent Partner. I got it from the youtube library non copyrighted.

That model has to be one of the best I have ever seen - what a craftsman!
Ok you had me, i was like those are some small radial engines. Great sound mix
wait those arent actual gas engines?? but what about the smoke? sorry im new to airplanes
SouthFlaDiver Go on line to OS engines o Saito . They do make 3 , 5 , 7 and 9 cylinder 4 cycle engines .
Simply wonderful.
Beautiful. Cant say anything else. Beautiful.
As an old man... who grew up in the 80s flying RC, this brings tears to my eyes.
Nostalgic
How could anyone not like such a cool thing, but I see 17 poor, misdirected souls don't. May they increase their fiber intake and feel better soon. What a great airplane. Well done!
It's up to EIGHTY people who don't like this. WTF?
They are probably just jealous that they can't do something like that.
It is a very cool thing.
105 dimwits who spent the time watching and decided they didn't like this. What's not to like?
its 107 now.
If we ever discover a race of 1/8th people, they are going to be so happy!
Chuck Wagon 😆

I never saw a better scale model...the scenery is spectacular too. Thanks for posting.
I have lived by an airport for 67 years. I used to see and hear DC3s several times a day throughout the 50s-late 60 early70s. My favorite plane. Noisey as heck but very graceful and one of the most reliable ever built. A real workhorse. I got to go on one for a grade school field trip. Very steep narrow aisle. That's the coolest flying model I have ever seen! Thank you!
Very nice. A beautiful area too, horseback riding and gorgeous mountains. 👍
Funny, that startup had me going there for a second. Finally realized they'd dubbed a real radial over it.
Beautiful craftsmanship on the construction. Fantastic detailing.
The skin detailing on this gorgeous model is nothing short of remarkable. My favorite prop plane, and now, my favorite plane model. Very well done!
Elite micro-engineering coupled with a very highly skilled R/C operator. The landing was sublime. BRAVO! 👍
Wonderful! Love Iceland. Love DC-3s.
A superb model....some lovely detailing. Liked the added sound of a real Dak too.
That's a superb model. The start of the left motor there sounded just like the real thing! I can only imagine the dedication that went in to building this wonderful Aircraft. Amazed at how real these RC models look.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
Thank you. www.rcsturla.is is the RC builder.
Beautiful detail. Even the engines sound right when it starts up.I always enjoyed flying in them in the 60's in Australia.
Fooled me with the sound when they fired up the #1 engine lol
me too!
Me too! Dang..
Yep. Right there with ya.
@@Nick-wn1xw Me too. I was hugely impressed for a moment there.
Me too
Superb workmanship, and in aluminium too! Please don’t crash it.
Beautiful m aircraft! Wow!
Absolutely gorgeous. Had me fooled at first with the engine noise. Loved it. Congrats to the builder.
Excellent model. My first ever flight was in one of these in New Zealand 1965!
What beautiful workmanship. Stunning!
💐WOW - So Cool! Perfectly proportioned with every curvature spot-on, each detail totally characteristic of the most charming aeroplane of all, ever, the DC-3... this masterly built R/C model is a lovely, outstanding piece of art.💐
The DC-3 is my all time favorite civilian aircraft. It also served in the military as the C-47 from WWII, post war with The United States Air force's Strategic Air Command, Vietnam as gun ships, and was still being flown by the Air Force until 2008.
Nice video of your model DC3! Flew in one many times when I was in the RCAF! A real old work horse for us back then!
the skin and the gear are so detailed - it could pass for the real thing. a magnificent work of craftmanship. thank you for sharing!
Outstanding!! I love it when people don't forget that beautiful plane. Goes to show, Douglas had a damn great idea. Thank you for the video!!
Beautiful replica, amazing detail. Liked the actual radial engine sound in the beginning, chills!
Very beautiful dc3 very good flying
What a beautiful model. It doesn't hurt any that I love that particular airplane anyway.
Wow what an awesome model and also the scenery with the mountains and snow are so beautiful !
man you made me cry! I only played copilot on a family member dc-3 over 40 years ago in the Caribbean, but it was the plane that impressed me the most in my life. I'm always watching the alaska videos and all dc-3 video but having a little model of the real thing really is great. You are a lucky man :)!
malanga13 Thank you. There is something nostalgic about the DC-3
Love the DC-3 too. Watch all the videos but never had a chance to fly one although I have flown IN one.☺
An absolutely beautiful aircraft in all aspects and masterful craftsmanship. Thank you for the video!
I just loved flying in those planes. Loved TWA too.
Wise choice of a go-around on that first approach.
Certainly one of the finest models ever made of one of the finest aircraft ever made. Well done 👍
Love that sound! Fly overs sound like the real thing!!! Really well done and BEAUTIFUL model!
I have crashed so many models when I was young.... Thank YOU very much for the model and for the video.
Very very very great RC DC-3... GREAT JOB.. BEAUTIFUL..
My God - What a magnificent Airplane & a fantastic job you did on it ! TRULY AMAZING ! Thanks so much.
Awesome little C 47
What a beautiful thing to behold ! Absolutely marvellous ! Well done Sir !
That is one mighty impressive model. I flew in DC-3s in South Australia and have always had a 'soft spot' for them. Most impressive is the commitment to detal, looks like the original aircraft. Well done.
Wow, absolutely perfect and wonderful model.
its a nice plane :) good job on the detail modeling and it flys really good
When living in Kenai Alaska we would fly to Anchorage in a DC-3. This was in the early 60's. What a great airplane it was. Shalom
I have just watched your video before going to bed.
What a perfect way to end a day.
Sublime RC model, and video presentation Mr. Snorrason.
MSFS FS2002-4, FSX.

the model: first in class. the pilot: huevos grande. well done sir. was truly thrilling to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it
A wonderfully built craft. Congratulations
Outstanding!
Carole Lombard’s DC 3 still rests on a Nevada mountain top, pilot error, her wedding ring was never found.
@Alan Cogan in Buddy’s head or in Richies?
@Alan Cogan Van Guard is a gentleman. That means he does not have a smart-ass mouth like you.
I've flown in DC3's in central America during the 1970's, many were used as short haul services in those days and I believe there's still a few left. I would trust a DC3 over a Boeing 777 anyday, maybe a little noisy and not so fast but not much in the way of electronic gizmo's to go wrong and less likely of falling out of the sky.
The model is absolutely beautiful and a huge credit to it's builder.
Beautiful model. Realistic.
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing your creation with us all. Also, nice wheel landing.
Man, that thing is beautiful. No way I would ever chance flying it.
Nice job. Such a classic airliner the DC-3
A beautiful tribute to the most beautiful aircraft ever built.
One my favorite planes. A great demonstration of your craft
Gorgeous! My favorite airplane and such a fantastic model!
Cool DC-3 Sturla...nice work .... watching the video down here in TEXAS
Guys what an awesome job, that is truly amazing, landing gear flaps all work. The detail with the sheet metal finish shows the dedication. Thank you for sharing.
Nice, very nice indeed...love the addition of the real sounds too.
Wow! Beautiful just Beautiful!
a great model, of a fantastic airplane.
Not sure which I like better, the truly amazing plane or the scenery in Iceland. You're fortunate to have the beautiful background.
So happy to see such excellent large RC builds of my favorite airplanes. A B-29, a P-51, a DC-3 with this one, & still looking for an F-82
Brilliant. You had me with the sound aswell when you started it up. Great detailing. 👍
The sound effects are awesome. Beautiful model, good job.
Wow, what a beauty! Love the dubbing of the radial engine sounds! My first trip was on a North Central A/L from KMKE to KMDW before O'Hare was built. On the return on a hot and humid summer's day, I didn't think we make it off the ground. But we did!!
Incredible attention to detail!
Thank you for the good video without crappy music to ruin the sound of the model, you tastefully added the sound of a real radial engine for great effect at the perfect time without over doing it, well done. Also great looking scale build.
Wow simply beautiful and so was the scenery I tip my hat to you sir
Nice landing! And a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
WOW! What an awesome model and tribute to a historic icon. I've never seen better craftsmanship!
WOW!! What a beautiful aircraft. One of my favorites. Great job with the finish.
Beautiful, nice work.
Having been a captain on DC3s /C 47s I appreciate the amazing realism of this superb model.. In flight it looked perfect.
Play the video at 1/2 speed -- even the taxiing looks like full scale plane.
Beautiful work. the sound at times was almost right on. One of the best models I have ever seen. Brings back memories of when I used to fly them for The U. S. Army Parachute Team. It brings joy to me to witness your outsstanding talent. The best airplane for one that looks like it was made to fly!. Best wishes, Charles M. Hill, Fayetteville, NC USA. Thank you so much for your post.
Gorgeous model aircraft. Great flying skills and sceneries
Outstanding model!
Beautiful touchdown.
I really marvel your skills the way you have made this model taking care of even the smallest details. Hats off to yuo!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Just AMAZING!!! Congrats!
What a fine model ....sick!! There is a full sized DC 3 near our place in Canada...my grandfather worked in Greenlnd in 50s and flew in it ...
Excellent model of the greatest plane ever built. I want one!!
Love the details! Very nice!
Absolutely beautiful, very well done to you.
What a beautiful model
A superb flying model. My first flight ever was in a DC3 of Aer Lingus from Birmingham to Dublin in 1952 when I was a schoolboy. Now that brings back memories. Many thanks.
Stunning video! Great craftsmanship, great piloting, great photography! Have no idea what a project like this costs but, if you have the money, it's WORTH IT! Very inspiring.
I love the added soundtrack of the real Dak. :-)
Spectacular! As the first flight in 1935 of the DC-3.
So cool , reminds me of the DC-3 's in Whitehorse Yukon in the 70's
Beautiful
Incredible. My first airline mechanic job was maintaining DC-3s for a US regional carrier. I would not have believed that such immaculate detailing of sheet metal and landing gear was possible in a flying model. Is it actually constructed of aluminum with spot welds simulating rivets? Can't imagine how else it could have been done. Congratulations.
Hopelessand Forlorn The US airline you worked for that had DC-3’s wouldn’t happen to be PBA is it ?
I worked for the Colombian Air Force and flew the military version of that plane for many years ...
beautiful and efficient plane ...
I flew on a PBA DC-3 from Tampa to Sarasota once in the very early 80's. I was surprised at how nice the ride was, and much quieter than I'd imagined as well.
Damn! Real, movable flaps and retractable gear! Amazing, beautiful. Thank you.
My dad flew D-3's fantastic airplane. Magnificent model. Bravo!
