The first half of this quote is from Benjamin Franklin. Ben said, ""liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote" for the second half. It doesn't work as good for todays events as your version. I have mixed emotions on Ben but this quote is one of the good things about him. He was a little too liberal, in general, if you ask me.
