      @jhamp244 Před 4 lety +15

      There is no change in what I usually do except when that boost of energy hits, I have the cleanest house in the neighborhood, if you are not going into the fast in keto sis, you should probably have a cup of broth on your fasting days to put salt back in your system because when you do go into ketosis on your fast, you will be dumping loads of water and the salt from your body will go with it causing an electrolyte imbalance which can make you feel bad and tired.

    I’m just finishing my first 46 hour fast.
    Sorry to hear you were a bit “aggressive” in your re-feeding.
    Along with following your channel, I,m impressed with Dr. Sten Ekberg.
    He’s a former Olympic Decathlete (Sweden 1992) and Holistic Health champion at Wellness for Life.
    He recommends breaking a fast with a bit of sauerkraut (or other fermented options) to help reestablish the gut biome, waiting an hour or so and introducing oil in a small amount with a protein like steak. It’s almost “gently” extending the fast.
    He has a great series of videos called “User Manual for Humans” and other Keto videos explaining the science behind the keto lifestyle.
    I’ve purchased two Dash Mini Waffle makers and ordered the ingredients for making your spaghetti noodles.
    I look forward to your insights and honest opinions on the recipes you do.
    Keep up the good work.
    Sincerely,
    Dale

    DUDE!!! Your channel is amazing! I have been watching all your videos on taste testing, recipes, and all the Keto stuff, but I just now discovered these Fasting videos! You cover EVERYTHING! Thank you so much for what you're doing. I am on day 4 of an extended fast, and I have... several questions. I don't expect you to answer them all, but if you have a sec. I would love to know... do you find OMAD to be more difficult than an extended fast, less difficult, or... just a whole different mental ball game? I ask, because... I seem to kind of be an all-or-nothing kind of guy about most things in life. When I used to drink beer, I never really wanted to "sip a nice craft beer with food." I always wanted to slug back 6. If I had to only have 1, I'd honestly rather not even have one. Also with food... OMAD seems to me to be more difficult than saying to myself... "I'm not eating anything for multiple days!" With OMAD... if I eat at, say... 6:30-7:00 pm, by 10:00-11:00, I ALWAYS find myself wanting some kind of "snack" before bed. Unfortunately, my "snacks" grew from, 'a small handful of pepperoni... to a huge handful of pepperoni, and 4 huge chucks of cheese." i.e. a whole meal's worth of food... i.e. TwoMAD. i.e. daily fail.
    However... now that I am on day 4 of my fast, I feel a little direction-less. I don't know when to stop fasting. I've lost 8.4 lbs in 4 days, and I am ECSTATIC about it!!! I was doing OMAD Keto for several months, and I had plateaued for over a month! (probably due to my TwoMAD reality). So... I've gone from losing zero lbs in over a month, to dropping 8.4 lbs in 4 days! I'm kind of 'scared' to break my fast, and go back to OMAD, because I seem to struggle so much with the "ONE" part of the OMAD acronym. At the same time... I feel pretty damn foggy on this extended fast, and I'm afraid that tomorrow AM (Monday morning) I have to go back to work, like everyone else, and I will be foggy as hell, sitting in meetings, spaced out and drooling. So... to pull this all-over-the-place question together... what are your thoughts on a kind of... One Meal Every Three Days, OMETD, kind of fast? This would keep my mental game centered around being 90% fasting... but... I'd have at least one meal to keep away the fog?

      @SeriousKeto  Před 2 lety +1

      My daily feeding ritual is fatty coffee in the morning, then I may have a light snack around 3pm or 4pm, then dinner at 6pm to 6:30pm. Technically, not fasting, given that there are calories in the heavy whipping cream in my coffee.
      On extended fasts, I don't feel foggy, so I can't advise you there. I will recommend that you ease your way out the fast. Start with some broth, then something really mild a couple of hours later (steamed broccoli, for example). You may find that whatever you eat shoots right through you.

    @byronjames3437 Před 4 lety +17

    Good to see you managed the whole 72 hours, no matter how long a fast each day is always difficult.
    I'm now on day 14 of my 30 day fast. I count the days off one by one.
    I think the diarrhoea is par for the course, I've suffered every time I end a fast no matter how gentle I am at introducing food. This time I intend to only consume beef broth with ACV for the first 2 or 3 meals. I also find that initial energy levels are good, but after exertion, energy soon depletes leaving a slight sickly feeling. Sucking on a few salt granules usually fixes that. No problem at all with hunger, I even prepare meals for my wife with no cravings to eat.
    I must admit I'm ticking the days off, I'm so looking forward to eating again. Weight wise, I haven't weighed myself yet, I'm going to have a weigh-in tomorrow at the halfway mark of 15 days.

      UPDATE. I had a weigh-in this morning and I've lost just over 14lb in 15 days, so I'm pleased as it's working out at 1lb per day. Obviously 2 or 3 lbs would have been initial water loss. Previous long fasts I've averaged out at 5lb per day. This time I took a twice daily drink of 2tbs ACV, large pinch of salt, 4 drops of Stevia, 1tbs lemon juice with 400ml sparkling water, not only does it give an energy boost, it also has a great taste, a little like apple cider. I definitely believe the ACV drink assists weight loss, it certainly seems so here.

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  Před 4 lety +2

      Those results are nothing to be ashamed of. Also, I make a very similar ACV tonic. I also add a 1/4 tsp of ginger and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon to mine and the taste is a lot like a really tart apple pie. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

I'm in unknown territory now as this is my longest fast so far, I'm determined to see it through though.

I discovered fasting and keto low carb diets online and it has helped me a lot. Since July 1st I have lost over 5 stones I am 6ft 4inch. So now at the 15 and a half mark. I made the mistake for years of thinking low fat was key. Understanding insulin made the major difference as most importantly from other weight episodes in my life I can now maintain the lower weight where as before I couldn't. I find doing a lower carb one meal a day regiment helps me maintain the same weight.

    I know this vid is pretty old but I also just completed a 72hr water fast a 2 days ago. I wanted to see what someone else experience was like. I definitely recommend going easy on the refeed. I heard bone broth is great for breaking a fast and then procced to only eat 50% of what you normally eat for the next 2 days. I had my bone broth at hour 78 of fasting with a little bit of meat from the animal. Had my next meal a few hours (about 3??) later had very little meat, liver, intestines and a slice of bread. From there I've continued to follow my regular eating schedule keeping in mind to only eat 50% from normal. Id like to report that I think following the suggestions have helped the refeeding prosses tremendously. Hope everyone the best in all future fasts!

I don't do bone broth but I like the idea of cucumbers with pink salt, I know I struggle with electrolytes at around 15-18 hours because I sometimes shake and even when I've done maybe a 20 hour fast, that first meal really pulls me down but I discussed this with a nutritionist who said 'eat your water' and the cucumber and pink salt would be a good way to do that. Frequent drinking of cold and warm drinks just seems to really flush more hydration out of me than it rehydrates so I'm getting some great info on this now. I've had a small level of success with a very well blended 'green' soup (broccoli, onion, green beans and zucchini), seems a lot easier on my system. Small moves but it's all going the right way. :)

I ended my fast with a bowl of chilli that my wife made expecting completely that I'd be on the can within minutes of eating it (I was!). I lost about six pounds and put most of it back after a few days. But this time, I seemed to have gained (because there's no other way to explain) the ability to sprint and trail run twice as long as with less effort. Running in general was just easier! The nice is thing is that the ability never subsided because I'm running faster. I don't know what the fast did or of it's some sort of training coincidence but that's what happened. Basically, the extended fast made me a little stronger. I'm doing another 72 hour fast next week, maybe this time I'll fly!

    Fasting is not a time for physical exertion. Take it easy, walking and meditation are perfect.

      wrong. you can do workouts during a fast, you just need more salt. I do it all the time 48s and 72s. if youre getting light headed, not enough salt, period. Stan Effording wrote the book on Salt and how its actually really good for you(when working out)

      @@Zinctwentyone yeah I'll take d3, a fish oil, k2, magnesium, and zinc. I take that combo no matter what. Before covid hit I had started a night job. Not being out in the sun affected me greatly and brought fatigue and sadness. Taking the d3 made me feel better than I ever did while living a normal life. I take 5000 Iu a day with no ill effects.

    Thanks for sharing Steve, I'm currently doing research on what to expect and to ensure I do it properly. Will probably start with 48hr. Thomas DeLauer mentioned to break eat small amount of protein. Small steak. Then sleep and continue regular eating the following morning. Question, how often did you do the ACV tonic? Thanks again

    My weight had plateaued from my OMAD after a month, so I did a 42hr fast. Couldn’t make it to a 48hr for work reasons. Having said that, it did kickstart my weight loss again. These more -than-24hr fasts are really useful!

      @@SeriousKeto Additionally, I used to do 5K jogs, but just like your experience; I'm unable to go as fast as I usually do when I was on OMAD. I rem in your other video you said you fart less as well? I am experiencing that as well, also, as a man; my body odour has dropped tremendously. It's pretty damn amazing.

      @syumassh Good to know. I’ve stalled on OMAD as well. Do break a prolonged fast the same way as OMAD? I’ve been using MCT oil to break my OMAD.

    Thank you for sharing. I think that your first 48 hours fast was very stressful for your body so you gained some water weight and that's why your blood pressure and heart rate were elevated. And nothing's wrong or bad about it. But this 72 days fast was easier as you had that experience already and your body don't panic anymore (you don't die without food). Congratulations from experienced faster! Keep on with good content. Subscribed.
