- "A double-deck bus tour guide with the heart of an urban poet, Timothy "Speed" Levitch doles out a fascinating overview of New York City history that's nearly impossible to forget -- due mostly to his passionate asides about life, love and the pursuit of "the cruise." Denouncing the rigidity of New York's grid plan through a rambling story about a woman in "sexual slacks," Levitch reveals as much about himself as he does about the city he loves."

This is one, if not THE one, film (documentary) I have watched that has left me with a fundamental comforting feeling. The feeling that it's okay to think. And the ones that do think, like Timothy, will be regarded as crazy.
To me this is comforting.
Because, like Timothy says; "If 'everyone' loves the grid, does that exclude me?'. In this sense, if 'they' think you're crazy, well at least you're not 'normal'. There is really nothing 'normal' in this universe. It's just us trying to make sense of it and make it seem normal, which it will for later generations when the "science puzzle" comes together. But it doesn't exclude the notion that though we categorize everything around us it doesn't neccearly make it 'normal'.
It's this notion I feel Timothy shows very well. Like he said: 'Sure I could appreciate the flower, but I want the flower to appreciate me too!'
what a nicely written review
I need to re-watch this one. Classic view of the human soul and all its bountiful braggadocio.
Pedal (2001) > The Cruise (1998)
This is a movie?
Yes, great doc if you can find it anywhere. He also cameod in the series High Maintenance, S03E09 "Cruise" named after this.
Did this guy write his own reviews …. I think so
Big pass
your loss, its an incredible documentary about this guy and his almost parasitic (in a good way) relationship with NYC. i lived there for years and have never met anyone more in touch with the city as this guy was. its a very philosophical doc showing his connection to the sites, history, changes, and people of an ever changing concrete jungle.
