@teenagelobotomy14 Robert Pollard essentially made the Strokes success possible. He was handed a tape at a GBV gig that later got passed to a record company exec.

wow all these comments with no info on how these two bands were the best of friends. Its a cover geez. Go grab a guitar and try to do a fraction of what the strokes have done. so quick to judge, but im sure your fav band is kings of leon or lemme guess vampire weekend HAHAHA. Get real, without the strokes none of the music you hear today that you INDIE people love so much would even be around. You should be kissing their feet, for the movement they created. Fools

no one likes this cover because Julian Casablancas doesn't have the same singing style as Pollard so for those seasoned GBV listeners, it sounds off. It's not necessarily a great cover but its pretty awesome that the Strokes would pay tribute to GBV by doing a cover of them.

Saw the Strokes open for GBV in Chicago at the " Empty Bottle " before their 1st release, they were handing out EP's , it was recorded badly, but, you knew it had potential, and "live" they were good, too bad they kinda wandered off those first couple albums, probably way too late to catch their past glory, must admit I liked the early stuff, still have the signed EP too

yep i really dig them or atleast used to,
i don't realy like their new releases and for me "their style" was developed with first 2 albums. garage-like production, distant vocals with heavy filters..this kind of thing you know, and it's pretty much what we hear in dis cover.
    and GBV is just lo-fi

But when Is this it came out it nothing remotely mainstream sounded like them, in a way their title as "saviours of rock and roll" were deserving and maybe they didn't start a movement but they did sort of revive rock.

GBV don't need or will ever want to stoop that low.As Pollard is the most prolific songwriter around,i very much doubt he'll do covers, especially of songs by contemporary untalented bands.but you can bet your ass he'd be more than capable if he wanted to.It is a good thing that popular bands like the strokes are paying tribute to him and hopefully by doing so they're turning people on to good music...

@acombs1793 The Strokes didn't create any movement! Shouldn't you credit said "movement" to the likes of Sonic Youth REM GBV Pavement Dinosaur Jr.? Such bands laid the ground work but the Strokes were young fresh and highy marketable with half a clue when pop culture inc. finally decided to sell john q.public a "new" genre with real merit this time unlike emo gag!The Strokes=mainstream rock band, early 00s, influenced by the "indie rock" movement of american popular music. vampire weekend SUX!
