- Hey car guys and gals. Here's a quick how to on disconnecting the cabin "fake engine noises" while in sport mode in your 11th gen Honda Civic.
- Auta a dopravní prostředky
Crazy that they make customers do this and don't just let you choose whether you want it in the software - it's quite obviously something a lot of people won't like!
To my understanding, it can also affect aftermarket sound systems, essentially making these disabling steps required for any aftermarket upgrade. Quite ridiculous!
@@vanquish421 no need to upgrade anything. I’ve added a full range amp, sub amp, and DSP processor with no issues.
@@sirsnypes631ik this is late but he’s right, this does affect aftermarket systems , but not permanently. I got a subwoofer installed and when the active noise came (fake engine noise) it bass boosted throughout the car randomly, drowning out noises from the music and making it annoying. I just unplugged it with these steps in the vid and it went away, so it sucks that it is something you may have to do to aftermarket equipment
Very helpful. This video made it easy. Just did it in my 2024 type r. You don’t have to fully remove the ac vents. Just need to unclip it slightly past the glove box panel. It’s nice to be able to drive in +R without hearing that Weed whacker sound
Did this for my 24 CTR today. Found it easier to pop the side panel off and push the air vents out from the inside. We are unable to remove the plug for the Start/Stop button so I kept it plugged in. The Active Sound Control is on the glovebox so only the glovebox needs to be removed.
Excellent video. very straightforward. Its definitely alittle different than how to unplug the the Active Noise Cancelling Module (ANC) on a Accord.
Thanks for posting this. I have a horrible dashboard rattle right over the glovebox. I’ve had my Type R into the dealer twice. They supposedly put sound deadening material under the infotainment screen. That didn’t help at all. I’m going to put in sound deadening mat material/wire wrap myself and use your video. 👍👍👍
Nice work, This will be done first thing when I pick up mine in a few weeks.
Just what I needed to see. Vent removal. I want to vinyl wrap the vent and found this vid. maybe add tags to the description so that It will show up as well for people who want to remove vents. :) Thanks so much for the vids!
Was the vent easy to remove? Mine got damaged and i need to replace it but im scared ima break something
Thank you for re-doing this process for others benefit. :D
2:31 The New Acura Integra, has it as well. You just have to remove the center leather metal trim piece. But it works just the same. 😉
Update for RHD Civic Type R - the ASC unit is fitted on the opposite side, behind the glovebox. As with the LHD in thie video remove the passenger side dash end panel, glove box compartment, 4 retaining screws on the under dash mount panel and its on that panel adjacent to the centre console.
Brilliant video
Excellent video. Picked up a ‘23 Si three weeks ago. This is an immediate “must do”!
Thank you!
Naw for real 😂 I got mine 03/21/23 😅 quite annoying

Thanks for the vid. Is it necessary to take off the ac vent?
I been waiting on someone to figure this out you’re a lifesaver😂. I’m from the Jackson area where are you in MS?
Thanks man, I'm around the Jackson area too.
awesome tutorial vid!very detailed!any chance you know how to disassemble the center console?i'm thinking of adding a rear ac vent on my sport🤔TIA
Thank you! I will add that to the request list.
Great tutorial!
Thank you!
You my new friend. 😂 thank you
Thank you!
Does the Acura Integra have this problem as well?
Good share, Bud.
Thank you!
So I recently did this today, I found out that you dont need to take off the vent. I didnt see what the vent was holding to the inside of the glove box. It is only that side trim and everything underneath .
A part of the glove box sits under the HVAC controls, which is part of that big vent piece. You do need to release the vents at least halfway off, no need to disconnect anything but at least partially off
DOES THE 22 SPORT HAVE THIS?
Great, thank you, please show us how to remove the complete dashboard
The full dashboard up to the firewall?
Great video, maybe you know how to disable ANC mic in this car?
@@semyonshayayev8855 it is in the same module that’s unplugged in the video. OR you could disconnect each mic individually but that is waaay more work.
Why’d you take off the mesh part of the interior? It didn’t look like it was needed to be removed.
I was also wondering how necessary that is
Wasn’t necessary
I rarely use Sport Mode.. its Fast enough without it😆
Would it be the same steps and location for disabling the sound on a 2023 Civic Type R. Thanks for making this vid !!!!! Fake sound 😢
Yes the module will be in the same location, but you actually will not have to remove the A/C vents.
Sick🔥
Can you do a video of disable the pedestrian warning sound on a 2022 Honda Insight? Thx.
That is in the setting change the alert from mid to low
@@jacobwilliston low is better but I want to disable it completely,
2:13 can I just remove the side part without taking off the honey comb vents and the glove box first? I'm trying to find where a rattling noise is coming from. Thank you
Yes the side dash cover comes off easily
Do you know if this the same procedure for the 2023 Integra?
Not 100% sure, but I'm sure the module is around the same location.
Question i was seeing a video on CZcams how the L15 engines are the worst for mods and built cheaper. Is this true for the 2022 model? I just bought one yesterday!!!!
I haven’t had any problems out of it, and this is my 3rd Si. Also I had a sport model once with the n/a 2.0 and it was awful.
Do you know if this is in the same spot with the Integra 2023 model?
I would imagine so, I’d have to get my hands on one to find out. They’re basically the same car.
Do all 22 civic trims have this asc? I will be picking up a 22 civic sport hatch in a few weeks and have been reading up on this "fake sound"
Sport Hatch shouldn’t have it unless it’s a new feature for the 11th gens.
Is there anyway to disable the AC from automatically turning down when The Carplay is giving directions. I really hate this feature …thanks
Not that I know of yet. There’s a video somewhere on how to get into the “secret/dealer” menu from the radio by pressing 3 certain buttons but I can’t recall which ones..
Do you know if they have this in the hatch models too ?
If it has a Sport Mode, it most likely does.
Hi, I bought a civic 2022 sport. I enabled, simulate secondary display in developer option. Now there is an overlay on my screen and now I cannot use the infotainment system. If possible, can you help me with it
Unfortunately that sounds like something a dealership may have to help you with buddy.

I feel the stock led is a bit dark for my 2022 civic. By any chance, Do you know how to upgrade the led light bulb? High or low beam. Thanks a lot
Unfortunately I don’t think there is a way to change it out… yet. Maybe in a few years. I’m surprised to hear you say that because I get flashed daily from people thinking my brights are on! I can’t help Honda designed it that way 😅
@@projectbluray9376 ok, no problem man, I guess I got bad eyes at night, 🤔 still thanks for the reply.
How does the enhanced sound actually work, is that a speaker of some kind?
It’s an artificial sound that plays through the speakers when the car is in Sport mode.
Would it be possible to change the fake sound?
@@parthic7743 I highly doubt it
can the work be carried out without extracting the long panel of the air vents? or is it mandatory? because it doesn't seem to affect the removal of the lower glove box frame...correct?
Possibly! Try it out and let me know.
Yes it can be done without removing the vents/push start/climate controls unit. I just did it today on my father’s FL5 Type R. However it would be beneficial to pop out a few of the clips on the unit where the lower portion of the dash on the passenger side meets the climate controls and the central tunnel. I ran into a problem where disconnecting the clips here was extremely difficult as well as reassembling because the large unit that holds the vents and climate controls has three clips that connect into the lower portion of the dash. It’s hard to get enough leverage to dislodge the lower dash so disconnecting them prior helps a ton.
And it is literally impossible to reinstall the lower dash without unclipping that part of the climate controls since the unit holds the male prong for the clip to fasten the lower dash. This might sound confusing but it all makes sense when you’ve gotten the glove box and side cover of the dash towards the door removed.
So is this the rattle noise I hear everyday like buzzing noise this will help if I take that out when I rev up
Yes! It sucks haha. I’m not sure why Honda did this for the new gens also!
Definitely taking it out today
What is "active sound control"
Does it available in Asia civic ?
Thankyou
When you drive in Sport mode, the exhaust sound is enhanced. You mainly hear the difference on the highway. I’m sure it’s on all 11th gen Civics but I don’t know for a fact.
Nice, but wouldn't this trigger a warning msg on the dashboard?
Nope!
is it only apply to the SI model? does the other trims has sound active too?
As far as I know it’s only on the Si and Type R trims.
Thank God this was keeping me from buying the car
You don't have to disconnect it. Just de-pin or cut 4 output wires at the amp and you'll never hear the fake engine sound again.
Have any details on that? I haven't been able to find anything.
Any error codes come up with unplugging this?
Nope!
I assume that the car doesn't report any faulty light by desconecting that ECU right?
no. it's not an ecu, just a sound enhancer
Does this disable the Active Noise Control as well?
Yes, they are basically the same thing.
Is this still necessary if you get downpipe, cold air intake, exhaust, etc?
Yes. Anytime you enable Sport mode, the fake sounds will come through the speakers. It may not be as noticeable with that amount of upgrades though!
There is a lot of stuff I can break , might just leave it alone .
It’s honestly not that bad if you’re careful and take your time.
How does that sound without the fake engine sound effects?
@@velcro62 personally I like it, and it’s necessary if you plan to add an aftermarket amp.
Does the 2022 civic non si have this anc or asc?
Most likely, you will know if you plan on installing subs. The Accords have it for sure, even if it does not have the Bose Audio System.
@@projectbluray9376 ill just pop glovebox and see if it has same module
@@FlipSideGarage for sure, let me know if you have one!
@@projectbluray9376 non si dont have one
Can u do a noise comparison between having it plugged in and not, im debating on doing it to mine
As soon as I got done editing this video, I thought to myself “someone is going to ask for a comparison” haha. I will get one soon. It’s not a huge difference, just one of those unnecessary add-ons in my opinion.
@@projectbluray9376 we appreciate you
@@projectbluray9376 thank you for this will be waiting for the comparison thanks.
Honda has declared this option functional. So if there is 1% of fake sound is there, you have to believe.
It sounds just like driving in normal mode really… there is a difference with it disabled but it’s just the fact that you can’t hear the fake noise anymore. I personally like it disabled cause the fake exhaust sounded silly.
How does it sound after ???
I liked it personally! Plus the intake I had sound better that fake engine sounds!
unlock noise cancelling or no?
This takes that away.
Is the extra sound in the sport too?
I know the 10th gen did not have it. Can’t confirm for the 11th gen. You will be able to tell the difference with the radio volume all the way down because there’s definitely and audible difference.
How much do you have to remove to get the gauge cluster out?
I actually plan on finding out soon because I have a small rattle in that area that drives me insane.
Did you ever remove it? I have an annoying rattle coming from the clear screen in front of the cluster.
I have rattles all over the dash. Defrost vents, dimmer switch, Guage cluster, info screen , a-pillar tweeters, and safety suite buttons.
Honda build quality is getting worse 😔
Does this disable ANC too?
Yes it does!
does it work for the new gen type r?
yes. you don't need to take off the vent completely though
@@scrapin240 just the glovebox?
@@musiczkl98 you do have to remove the vent, but partially, you do not need to disconnect the wiring. You remove it so you can pop out the entire glovebox
Does this work on 2023
Yep!
Do you get any error code after this?
Nope!
Is this the only way to turn it off?
Yep!
Just did this, and I see absolutely no reason to take the vent out.
do you just take the glove box out?
Do you have to take the vents out?
Yes, definitely makes it easier.
@@projectbluray9376 Is it impossible to do without taking the vents out? If I don't take the vents out, what issues will I come across?
Thanks in advance!!
@@chriscline3944 I imagine it will be difficult to unplug the module with the vents in, but if you’re able to do it without removing vents, let me know how it goes!
@@chriscline3944 did you end up trying to do it without removing the vents? How did it go?
what difference does this do? can't even hear it with the radio on.
. best to not mess with it and risk braking all those little plastic tabs
Easier if you just turn the radio up
Why did you have to pull the vents and climate control for to do this? When all u needed was to pull the glove box out...I don't get it.
Or leave your stereo on at volume 1. Whenever the speakers have music coming through them the car sounds are disabled. Would never try pulling the dash out of my brand new f'ing car!
I’m a car audio specialist so I know what I doing. I take down brand new cars weekly, but thanks for your opinion.
that's false. the sound still happens in a FL5 Type R. And no one is removing the dash. This literally takes about 10 minutes
Not taking my Car Apart🤨
You just lost 5hp right there....
KTuner gave it back!
It's such a non-issue. It's hardly noticable, especially if you are listening to music. It's nowhere near as evident as it sounds like on some of the review videos where it's amplified. The air conditioner at 3 is louder. Seems like alot of trouble to go through for something that is hardly there. That being said, I'm just happy manufacturers are bothering taking the time to even put it in there. They could easily give no supplemental sounds. At least they are trying to spice things up.
I’m taking away your enthusiast card…
@@NYGFRANK87 this is too funny I agree
@@NYGFRANK87 Honda said they added it because the exhaust is so quiet that while on track you might not get any audio cues where you are in the rev range, especially with louder cars around you.
fake engine noise in the cabin is a joke on any make or model. Real drivers don't want this!
Agreed.
