My 1990 version was awesome. The looks of the other guys when i showed up with it at races in Germany priceless. They called it the oven tube bike. But it was stiff and light and absolute rocket.
Love your love for vintage C'dales and race a CAAD 10 myself in preference to my carbon bikes. Got to pull you up though on the wheels, Open 4CD are clincher rims - the joint best rim back in their day along with Campy Omega Hardox.
Amazing bike. I have te same bicycle frame from 1996, but I put the Sram rival groupset on it combined with Campagnolo Atlanta wheelset. The wheels are a bit heavier but are a little bit aeor and look amazing on the bike. I ride this bike from time to time and it is so amazing. It is very stiff and light, perrformance oriented and the colour scheme from 90s also look great. Love it...
I just brought a 3.0 road bike to get a tune up/overhaul at my local bike shop in Brooklyn….the mechanics were gushing over how it was a piece of history that started the lightweight revolution in road bikes…I couldn’t agree more… It’s my second 3.0 ….and I could buy another before prices start going up…$600 shipped to NYC from Texas….blue fade paint, full Ultegra 600 group set with Wolber rims
I’ve got a ‘85-‘86 model Cannondale CAD3 that I just can’t part with….Shimano 105 with 8 speed cassette. I found it thrown out in the trash completely intact but dirty and neglected….amazing bike.
Masterpiece. I have r600. The color looks the same. Mine is 3.0 aluminium. Very stift frame. Bike is very fast. Thought about selling it, but where it will be as good for him as at my place 😁
I love the integrated front derailleur hanger… I love the overhanging rear drops that tighten up the rear triangle…with a set of med rim profile/low spoke wheels like Rolf Vector Pros…the bike would vibrate at speed like it was alive….it’s fast as frig and reliable… forget electric shifters and dead carbon fiber frames ….disc brakes.??? Hideous
Is an Aluminium frame of that age safe? because if you read it says on various postings that eventually, sooner rather than later aluminium frames wil crack without warning even if they have been treated well.
It’s worth inspecting the welds for cracks ever so often. From conversations with mechanics it seems like you’ll find the cracks before it fails. Failure in the chain stays or seat stays would probably not be the most disastrous anyway when it comes to road bikes. I’m riding one with an aluminum fork which makes me a little nervous. I may consider finding a suitable fork replacement, but in the meantime I only ride it on separated bike paths and don’t barrel down hills fast as I can. I wear a helmet at all times and I come from skateboarding though so if a fall does come I feel like I could handle.
I have a 95' R400 (pictured) I bought it in December 2022 and by early April 23' I had eclipsed 1k miles. The bike is in excellent condition. Rides smooth and fast. It's stiff and responds effortlessly. Definitely doesn't feel 27 years old. Rides like it's brand new. I keep her tuned, clean, greased, and lubed. In my opinion this frameset will last a lifetime if properly maintained. Inspect for signs of wear or damage. The bike market is big on spooking buyers into buying the latest frames. Like apple giving you the same phones year in and year out. Hyping up insignificant upgrades. But to each its own. I love my CAAD frame.

I love Cannondale!!
I had a red R900 back in the day. Great bike. Wish I still had it. Love these old Cannondales and enjoy your videos thanks.
splendid! I have a Caad2 of the same color, now with Campagnolo Centaur and modern stem, handlebar.

I have an r500. Love it group set shimano rx100. What ever that is? It's just like you say smooth ,crisp easy to adjust anything on the fly...

Nice bike I would switch out the shifters to 105 just to complete the group set
I used to have one of those!
I recently sold a 1986 R800. Too stiff and twitchy for a seventy year old. Even so, I hated to see it go, but I knew I'd never climb on it again.
Nice..... I have an R500 same color.
