Here's why I don't think it's in A minor. Firstly, A and D are not in A minor (we'll come back to the E in a bit), but A, G and D are all in D major. As A is the five chord of D major and the tonality of the piece is set with the A, then A mixolydian as the fifth mode of D major is a great fit. A Minor can largely work although the F note is jarring. A Major pentatonic or F# minor pentatonic work well. I struggled with how the E major fitted here but came to the conclusion that it was borrowed from the A major or the A Lydian mode.
