This dude is great for car knowledge :)
Anyone with 6 cars and no furniture in their house gets my vote lol.
As a Mercedes-Benz Technician this makes me very happy. Keep rocking and rolling. And if you have questions I will be more than happy to help.
i have a question. would you mind if i asked?
DIRECTIONAL Rotors...
Do you know in which *direction* they are supposed to be installed?
Like OEM here: scooping air from the outside towards the hub
-or pumping air from the hub towards outside?
I guess the answer depends on the air flow around the wheels while in motion...
Are you fan of "ceramic" pads on harder discs ? (as opposition to semi-met pads on soft discs)
You play with an Aston Martin, Mercedes SL 55, Mercedes S Class, Ford 350 dually and Lexus SC (and probably others) while the wife drives the Hyundai...you sir have won the game!
My S600 brakes look kinda janky, starting to watch this now...
Samcrac Been watching your channel from a while. Interesting videos.
Same haha
Dang it Tavarish you sprung Scotty on us with no warning!
I really should give people a five second head start. My bad.
Chase Canova need a disclaimer 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Calling wheel bolts lug nuts. It hurt my brain.
scotty is right, your outright WRONG on the disc thing............they intentionally make the rotors soft too !!
Make sure you do a headlight restoration when you do the car detailing. Those headlights are very cloudy.
Definitely will!
I wonder the cost benefit analysis on restoring the headlights versus buying a new pair on FCPeuro. That would cover replacing them whenever they start to yellow again or when they get a serious rock chip or if any condensation starts forming inside the housing.
Tavarish
Nice job Tavarish
Clarence Boddicker Check chris fix videos for restoring the headlights
Priestly Adejo
I resort my own headlights got my own special secret shit.
Thanks tho.
LOL Scotty Kilmer, I like that clip Tavarish
Hahaha that Scotty kilmer part got me LOL
I have a 2001 S500 AMG..Your videos have made me do more of the work on the car myself..Really enjoy all your videos bro. Keep up the good work
hey tavarish,
i love your videos and casual style. its so fun to watch someone work on cars the same way i would. Keep up the fantastic work, youre the man.
"They didn't pay me, they just sent me free parts." That's compensation. Not cash, but compensation.
Man, even that short Kilmer clip gave my ears cancer.
FCP Euro's replacement policy is crazy for sure. I couldn't believe it when I read it but I did more googling and sure as spit, they stand behind it! great vid as always! :)
omg I totally saw that scotty shot coming in. I can tell the future by the way.
Tavarish your the best you just saved me so much money! There headquarters is in the town next to mine so no shipping!!!!! 😁😁😁
FCP Euro is awesome. They price matched shocks for my BMW and saved me like $100. Never did the warranty, but the customer service stories are true.
I'm SOOOOOOOOO glad you mentioned that loudmouth Scotty. THANK YOU for this video!!! I have a 2015 S550, and I do ALL of my own maintenance. It's been the cheapest car to maintain that I've ever owned! I've been using FCP Euro for years and it's amazing. Especially considering the wiper blades cost stupid money!
As soon as I saw the lip on the rotor I tought of Scotty kilmers Mercedes rant video and then you had to tag his video on yours I died 😂😂😂
Freddy you are doing a real good job lately! Keep it up.
Loving the enhanced production quality
"enhanced"
It's yo boy Scotty 😂 awesome work Tavarish.
FCP parts fluctuate... sometimes wildly. 230 for coils turned into 277$ and a fuel pump jumped 75$. Now suppliers, supply and demand, and other factors influence the price but if you see a good price on their site jump on it. Oh and they say oil is also covered by their lifetime warranty lol.
Yes! It's back! Love the SL55
An by the way on those Zimmerman says in the manual - do not brake clean spray. And you forgot to put anti seize under the rotor
Thanks for your vids man, they make my day deadass
thanks!
Polish those headlights with some Meguiar's M105, etc.
Good job man, i like that you are so informative with out being boring. Keep up the good work and dont forget to "wrench every day!"
Been watching all the sl55 vids. You are a busy man and quite incredible. Good on ya!
Hi Tavarish I really like your content. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Argentina.
Thanks!
Cristian Federico Sii me encanta!! Saludos!
Facundo Gimenez Zapiola nobody cares that you're from Argentina
Facundo Gimenez Zapiola that happens to be a nobody
alex ruano Thank you!
Finally, a video for the sl. I can't wait to see what type of wheels your looking for on the car.
Loving the comedy and special fx in these videos. Quality ramped up in a hurry, keep it up!
Tavarish, you are the man!
No, YOU'RE the man!
Great to see/hear from you Tavarish; Lots of fun! (good info too!) Stefan
Hey brother, really enjoying your channel so far, it's guys like you and quality like this that makes me want to keep at trying to record my own builds! Thanks for inspiring bro!
OMG!!! I just watched the Scotty Kilmer video this morning. As soon as you stated talking about the lip I remembered how he said it was ridiculous. Then you showed it. Too funny!!!
LMAOO THE SCOTTY KILMER CIPS DEAADDD
Mechanic's Tip Tavarish:
Use anti seize on just about every bolt and contact point between metal parts. You will thank me when its time to remove them again.
I personally like the copper antiseize but the silver one works fine too. It will be the difference between having to labor with dampers and pulleys as opposed to them coming out efforlessly. Use it on the hub also before installing the rotor being careful to not let any get on the rotor itself. It works just as well as a thread lock and sealant.
After doing a timing belt/water pump service on my 1993 J30 the water pump took a crap less than a year after. Having used antiseize on it made the job so much easier. Try it and you will become adicted to it
The Scotty bit had me dying 😂
I had my first experience with FCP Euro (and I'm in Australia) just to get a few parts and couldn't be happier. I wish the exchange rate was a little kinder, but the from Connecticut to Sunshine Coast in 5 days, they are definitely worth checking out.
Whats going on my guy. Love the content, love the loose improvised style.
I've personally dealt with them and sent in my old bad alternator so I got a replacement for free no questions asked. FCPeuro ROCKS!
Always a good video . 👌
Enjoy your video's bro, Good to see you scrapping the Calipers while working, amazing how many people leave it hanging,...I hope to have a 380 or 560 one day as a project car.
Nice job man my favorite channel as a fellow mercedes lover props to you :) 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 The Best or Nothing!
FCP is the BEST company I've ever bought from, automotive or otherwise and I will never go anywhere else for my volvo. It helps that everyone that works there is a euro car enthusiast too lol. They also have DIY vids for a bunch of jobs on different cars
Nice car to start with.... As for the brake pad under hang (or disc overhang relative to the pad). that is an intended design feature on MB's part (there are many manufactures that do it too). It is typically about .015" to .020" over over/under hang. It is not intended to see if the disc is excessively worn (thats just an added benefit). The real reason why most manufactures do that is to for one, make 100% use of the pad's available surface area which reduces heat within the pad and reduces wear rate of the pad and the other equally important reason for it is manufacturing tolerances withing the individual components (especially since a few of those components are subbed out to other manufactures so MB is at the mercy of that manufactures allowable tolerance.
If the designed called for the pad to be flush in a production situation but all the parts had say a +/- .003" allowable tolerance, the stack-up of parts outside of the design size but still within allowable tolerance could push the pad out quite a bit (or pull it in.... just depends on if the parts are on the + side of the - side.
The problem with Scotty Kilmer and people like him is they are "Tech's" and not design engineers and do not understand the reasoning behind certain decisions made by the engineers. To even further discredit him on that video you clipped from, he mentioned Toyota, Chevy and Ford not doing that and I can show him a few models from each manufacture that have the same overlap.
There is however an implied design flaw on MB and brembo's part with most of their brake systems as it pertains to how the cars are driven (typically). This is why the disc's wear noticeably worse then other manufactures. The problem is in the brake pad selection. What many do not realize is that brake pads have to two different friction properties one is abrasive when they are too cold and adhesive when they are at the right temperature. When pads that are designed to be effective at elevated temperatures associated with car being driven hard are used at the colder temperatures associated with how the typical driver drives in daily commute and putting around, they are very abrasive. This is a necessary evil in order to have a brake system (production type and every day intended use) that will still perform well when the car is beat on / driven hard. Obviously MB wouldn't build a car that can be driven hard and yet put pads on it that were going to fade horribly when the temps start to rise above what the typical driver demands out of his or her car. This is why you dont see that type of wear with just a singe set of brake pads on grocery getters like say a Toyota Camry or a Chevy Malibu, etc.... Their pads are only in the abrasive friction state at very low temps and are in adhesive friction properties by time the average temp in the pad is about 120°f or so. Pads like MB typically uses are in abrasive friction properties until probably closer to 300~350°F, so putting around town and daily commute type braking causes excessive disc wear because the pads are rarely reaching the temps for them to go into their adhesion friction properties. BUT hey, at least you know that you can rely on the brakes being able to repeatedly stop you from 100+mph.... Cant say that I would rely on Camry brakes doing the same.
Actually most European (including German) brake pads are lower metallic and softer pads, not higher metallic and they do not cool more rapidly for fade resistance. They rely on shear size of brake system to keep temps in check and cool quickly. This is why most many of the higher end cars from Europe use significantly larger brakes. Most other manufactures (American, Japanese, etc..) use smaller brakes but a higher metallic pad do deal with the much higher average temperatures seen due to the smaller discs typical of those cars and for longer life....
Its is often thought that the higher metallic content is what causes squeal and more dust. Its actually opposite. The squeal is actually caused from vibrations between the pads backing plate and the caliper piston(s) (and anvil on floating caliper designs). Higher friction pads (which are also softer) cause more vibration and thus more squeal. This softer higher friction material also wears at a faster rate and thus the more dust produced.
The softer higher friction material however cant handle heat as well since the elimination of asbestos so most manufactures went to semi-metallic pads when they found that NAO pads faded too bad without massive brake disc and pads. Again, this goes back to why many high end European cars use such massive brake disc's... It allows them to go back to a pad similar to NAO pads without the worry of fade, especially with better resin binders technology that do not outgas like the old NAO.
Good work here. Comments like this restore ny faith in the potential for valuable youtube comments.
Isaac MacDonald, I often wonder if people actually fully read my comments because I tend to get long winded with comments when they pertain to subjects that I know truths and/or facts about.
Sexy Vegan I do try to make it a point to use proper punctuation and capitalization.
As for the last paragraph, yes I noticed that when I replied a bit ago to the other repy. I didn't realize I made it one excessively long paragraph. I probably should go and edit it to make it easier to read.
On mine I used my odb2 scan tool to release brake pressure / parking brake /bleed. Also lock out the auto ride height control anytime you lift it are you could blow out the hydropneumatic struts.
Knew it was gonna be FCP Euro. Only company I know that offers lifetime warranty on anything they sell. Have been purchasing from they for the past 5 years and always satisfied.
love your videos man keep them coming
Thanks!
If you're looking to sell the wheels I'd be interested, Tarvarish. They'd be a fun project to teach myself how to refinish wheels. Also, that is for the tip on fcp euro, I'll be picking up a $100 90' BMW 525i soon, so I'll be needing a lot of parts, lol.
I'm a huge fan of the E34 used to have a '89 525i many years ago, if you have a sun roof be wary of heavy rust on the sills.
thanks for the website! Need more cheap part sites so keep them coming!
First time here. But I loved how you called out the click bait and actually didn't do it. I subbed
I have watched a few of your vids now and you are inspiring me to do some work on my car myself so you got a sub from me, nice going
You just got yourself a subscriber for the fcpeuro contact! Thank you!
Good stuff man, I like this a lot.
i buy a lot of things from FCPeuro for my volvo when i cannot get it cheaper in the auto part store i work at.
i got some zimmerman brakes don't need to be cleaned when installing ( read the instructions) just need the correct brake in to remove the coating.
keep the good work mate and hope FCPeuro helps your build like it has done helping me repair my worn out volvo cheaply and with quality parts!
ripping on scotty this is why I love you Tavarish you are a content God
That sweet fcp euro deal is seriously enticing me to get a used Mercedes as a daily driver.
WOW!!!! When I saw this video, I thought about that guy, who you roasted!!, that was hating on the mercedes brakes and rotors!!!! wow.... This is one GREAT VIDEO MAN>>>>>
I see what you mean, it is a handy way of getting a simple visual idea of the wear.
Sweet. Just checked them and ordered parts.
It's not exactly a mod... But I agree! Fresh brakes feel so good! 😍
I have a late model R129, I can almost get parts and repairs at 7-11. I fear the R230's and for that reason will keep my 76k mile '99 SL500. But, I appreciate all you insight and tips and how to fix their common issues.
Scotty may have 50 years of experience and talk like he knows stuff but Freddy shows you on video what he can fix by using common knowledge, and figuring out plus what he has learned which is more that I need to know who I have to see more CZcams videos from
Thanks for the tip on the parts.. New S55 owner/lover. It's used but not too bad abused.. rips still..
Its great to see all of this since I have a 2003 E500 and pretty much everything looks the same
really looking forard to the stuff with the SBC pump as mine is quite loud and im thinking of changing it sometime soon
When Tavarish finished a project one step at a time.
The wear groove is a good hint but you honestly have to take a micrometer to the rotors and measure them according to the spec thickness threshold. Regardless if they have grooving they have to be turned.
Excellent, love this, amazing , awesome, Trava
LOOOOL 😂😂😂😂 that scoty clip just killed me 😂
Mate.... you have just become the most important person, in my life :)))
Scotty doesnt know that pretty much all of the European-American-Asian manufacturers make pads-rotors designed to do that lip. Great vids
I use fcp euro for my e46, they have life time warranty on everything.
But do they actually go through with it
zeroyon223 i would always use ECS but until I figured they had lifetime warranty Switched lol.
zeroyon223 yes, but none of the products that I have bought from them haven't gone bad. But other members in my e46 club have said that they do.
Man who cares about what the title is, I saw AMG project part 2 and got excited! Love your content Tavarish!!!
Hahaha Scotty Kilmer to the rescue
Love the intro!
This is exactly what AutoZone does with brakes as well
Friggen awesome project and vid. Well done. I'm starting on my AMG E55 project as well.
Hi Tavarish ..
Looking forward to watching your next video .... Greetings from Denmark
Nice info on FCP. - Sup with that Krusty the Clown hairdo? I kid, I kid. Love this channel!
Get video as always Tavarish. I've had a look at FCPeuro and they stock pretty much everything for my 1987 Volvo 740! And so much cheaper than a lot of stuff here in the UK.
He is right, You MUST disable SBC before servicing the brakes or you risk damaging them or yourself. There are ways to do this without SDS (like unplugging the SBC wiring harness, disconnecting both batteries, or using the published procedures). However, Tavarish didn't mention that once the brakes are replaced, you need SDS to re-active SBC so that it does a proper calibration. Without doing that, you may have reduced braking efficiency.
3:07 "I can't wait to put it"
Great video! lol clickbait intro had me dead.
I died too mate.
Changed the brake pads on my '05 E55 myself at all 4 corners for under 100$ Same brakes as your SL55. I also looped those brake pad wear sensors to never see them again on the screen.
You can turn rotors with lips, but, depends on how much meat is left
Hi Tovarish, to make the Head Lights on your Merc again nice and clear, please buy and use any kind of Car Head Lights Restoration Kit.
You can get it at Walmart or any AutoZone for about 15-20,- $ depends on size... Results are amazing... Good Luck Bro!
great content love watching your channel
Bought new brake pads for my F350 from Ford and same thing, guy said they will replace them for free for life and I was doing the work myself. Have had similar experiences with other parts there as well
I generally change rotors on the second full brake change. I also change all four wheels at the same time. Now I own a nissan and my rotors are about 43 dollars a piece, however, I have one vehicle and taking Uber to someone who can turn one rotor at a time is too costly.
Hey Таварищ, I drove for 50K mile with the SBC visit shop error before it actually started failing, when the brakes would sink. Had to replace the reservoir, but the brushes were only 10% used. With iCarsoft MBII you can service and test these SBC pumps without sweat. I would recommend using Meyle platinum rotors instead of mercedes rotors. They resist rust a lot longer and look a lot better, plus you don't pay for the star logo.
Top job bro !!
FCP is great, i love them
ChrisFix does this thing where be puts copper anti-seize on the hub before putting the new rotor on. It makes the next rotor change much easier.
thanks buddy for the best information cause i just bought my audi a4 convertible 2005 model and pretty sure i would buy lots of spare parts
See this has made me feel confident in buying a CL,,, :-) thank you!!!
Loved the intro LOL
you are blowing up soon!!!
You are one of the very few youtube car channels i like. Seems there are a ton of moron channels lately, like facepalm rage inducing... Good job dude. Subbed
looking forward to the ABS unit rebuild, need to do the same on my C200 at some point as well.
