- The Kentucky Wildcats are going after some solid players in the transfer portal.
On today's episode of Locked On Kentucky, Lance Dawe discusses the transfer portal players Kentucky basketball has reached out to, starting with South Carolina Gamecocks guard Meechie Johnson. John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats have also contacted Milwaukee transfer BJ Freeman as well as Virginia Tech Hokies transfer Tyler Nickel. How would each of these players fit into the Kentucky basketball 2024-25 roster? Would another player like Syracuse Orange transfer Maliq Brown also be valuable to UK?
Dawe also discusses the departure of Adou Thiero from Kentucky basketball. How big of a loss is it for the Wildcats if Thiero stays in the college basketball transfer portal?

How about 3 kids every year that are 5 star , NBA draft picks. The rest you develop and have a team with experienced "role" players who bring stability to your program.Stop taking the easy way out by trying to buy championships. NIL has made Calipari's 5 first rounders on one team a thing of the past. Have players that want to be there, not just counting the days to the draft.
Thtz wht I'm saying. We need to start building teams using 4 star guys w a cpl 5 stars to push us each year
They aren’t going to stay because the coach over recruits new freshman. Somebody has to set the bench and none of them want to set the bench. So they transfer or try to enter the draft. That’s what Coach Cal does. Sick of him and sick of the program.
Gotta get Adou back. Gotta get big Z back. Gotta cut some of these recruits to make room for more portal guys. Thus class is weaker, overall, than last years class and the guys we got out of this class our ranked lower than the guys we got last year. None of them are good shooters and I’m skeptical about their defense. We don’t need 6 freshmen.
We need 3-4 and the rest of the roster needs to be guys returning or portal guys
He needs to retain Adou Thiero, land meechie Johnson and bj freeman, and the big from Rutgers, and that would be a good start. Keep Jordan Burks, because I think he can be a really good player that the fans will learn to love. Meechie Johnson said UK was his dream school and he is the prototypical veteran guard UK needs. Cal will redeem himself this year I believe. He has to..and he needs to get another shooter or two
Jordan if they had played 10-15 minutes per game would have benched Edwards.
@larrytucker222 No Edwards shouldve played more against Oakland. They shouldve benched Reed way before the 3:47 minute mark of the 2nd half on that game. Edwards was playing good defense. They kept taking him out. He was hitting his shots as well.

I don’t care how many talented kids call gets. It’s not his recruiting. He can’t coach, he is the Dak Prescott of the NCAA.

@@howardcarmichael2024Reeves had a good first year, except against Kansas State. Great game against Arkansas, my wife's home state.
In just my humble opinion, after the numbers that Reed and Reeves put up % wise does not have me that excited. Those guys shout the lights out for UK. So If we can get someone that is at least in the mid 40's% is what I want to see. UK needs that stud of a bruiser that can help compliment our guards.
Yea Reed had all those great stats and look what he did in March.
Meechie did Reeves numbers in his tourney loss so I would take him in a heartbeat. He’s a dog and experienced

Kentucky would be foolish to let Thiero go somewhere else. You said it Lance, we need those players with physicality and experience. He could potentially blossom into a key ingredient for getting to the Final Four, regardless of who he plays for next season. Just imagine if he improves at the 3 line. 😮

I love that we are looking in the portal early but I want AT to return. Let me make say that again.. I WANT ADOU BACK! If I have to watch him unlock his potential somewhere else my head may explode! I want him back, I want him to work on his handles and outside shot, I want his to be our starting PF. This kid grew several inches and put on a lot of weight in one year, went from filling in at G to a physical PF; I want to see him dunking on ppl and finishing out the rim for uk.i don't want our developing players to leave, it's time for him to have a starting role
Why Meechie Johnson? He’s an inefficient shooting guard. Plenty of better options out there IMO.
If we would’ve got 100 Dickerson last year our team would’ve been totally different none of our big guys ever developed they all had different skills but not playable

It doesn’t matter the coach has already got his freshman coming in and that’s who he’s gonna play. He will not play the best five players. Not excited about Kentucky basketball anymore but I will try and watch. Every time I see the new headlines on social media about the new freshman commit I just roll my eyes and move on past it.

This next class is a class who needs to sit behind sme guys gain some experienc3 while playin 15 or so minutes a game. Besides maybe quintance fland and knox. Perry will not be sheppard. We desperately need shooting, shooting shooting. And one big man

Until we get a new coach we could have an NBA all star team and calipari would get bent over the same. He is washed up. Im ready to offer Nate Oats and get the passion back for the program.
This next team is already screwed. Sheppard is going announced today, thiero not coming back, dilly gone, Wagner more than likely gone. Maybe burks who I love and edwards comes back. Meechie ain't it. The other guy maybe but without sheppard you ant replace that. It doesn't happen. Next year is gonna be a rough one.

What? You can replace Reed with Perry. Perry is even better. You are talking Reed. He was great. But he had 3 big games the whole season nd folded with 3pts and 8turnovers when it mattered. So he can be replaceable. Problem was Reed is a 2 guard and should've been playing 2 guard instead of the PG spot. He was not a true PG.

All meechie johnson does is shoot. I watched in the ncaa 6 straight trips down the floor he shot & missed. If they get meechie i will guarantee he wont play shooting everytime he gets the ball, Cal wont have that. Smh just dont even try to get him. Plus this is his second time transferring. Hes not locked in at a school to win.
