Yeah it’ll still kill him if he hits him with it but he has to swing it in an arc which Aemond can just dodge(as he does here)until he sees an opening or Cole gets tired from having to full swing every time he wants to attack and then rebound the other way which is exhausting. With a sword he can stab, jab, cut any direction and since Aemond doesn’t have armor on there’s no downside to using it

When Jace and Luke enter the courtyard in this scene, the camera is on them since the scene is from their POVs, but you can see Aemond in the background, selecting the shield and then getting ready for the session by warming up. He definitely saw them entering the courtyard before they saw him.

Well this is the show, not the books. In the show Daemon had Criston beat.
In the book, Harwin was canned strong bones for a reason. He never lost a duel. And daemon would beat criston 10 out of 10 times if it was life or death. At the tourney, daemon had Cristin down and out and was cruising with the crowd, and criston cheapishly cheated and caught him by surprise. He thought the fight was over
As fans, let's hope they don't make Daemon and Aemond face off till season 3!

I honestly never expected Aemond to be the most likable of the Greens. He’s competent, he’s well learned, he is a good warrior and properly seeing his childhood definitely has softened me to him. Not to mention changing how everyone perceived him killing Luke as this cruel act he relished in the books, to a moment where he lost control of his dragon and the look on his face shows he did not mean for it go all that way. That’s the face of someone who knows he just started the war and no one will believe he didn’t do it on purpose

Aemond isn't a villain. There are no villains in this story. Everyone has their own motives and journey and fate. Both sides in the war has justifiable reasons for fighting. Martin doesn't write black and white characters and in his stories theres never a "good side" nor a "bad side"
