    Great job Dustin. In order to avoid too many try-error shoots, which is my main headache, do you do some kind ok liveview or tethering to a bigger screen to se how lighting changes affect the image? Not that important with flashes but when using studio flashes with continuous lights which is my case. If so, what option are you using? Thanks for showing your great tuts.

    I´m just in love with your videos! You just explain and simplify everything in a way it´s so freaking easy to digest :) I´m trying to make my way into Product Photography, but I´m not and expert (or even near) in editing...Is there any book you would recommend me about photoshop editing? Is there anything that has a focus on product photography? It´s the area where I feel I´m way behind, so I´m really trying to get a book (Light, science and magic was a bless for me in terms of lighting) to catch up and lear more...thanks for all your videos! :)

      workphlo funnily enough I have watched this back a couple of times and come to appreciate the added interest the rear label provides. Not saying I would prefer it without it just that it looks natural.

    • @workphlo
      @workphlo  Před 6 lety +2

      While filming this episode and looking at the rear-label so much, I actually started to not notice it myself, it does naturally kind of just sit back there. Then when I uploaded I kind of took a step-back and wondered -- was this an oversight? Lol, glad to hear it doesn't bother too much! Thanks again for watching!

  • @brucewilliamsstudio4932

    Merry Christmas Dustin! Great video as always. One thing I'm having trouble with is lining everything up in Photoshop. I have two sheets of plywood over my carpet to give me a more solid floor and to prevent ripping my paper backdrop, but I notice that everything moves slightly when I change the position of a light or diffuser. I tried aligning the images in Photoshop, but I'm getting some distortion when I do that. Is the only option to rip out the carpet?

    • @workphlo
      @workphlo  Před 6 lety

      Good question Bruce! Do you have a fairly decent tripod?
      You may have noticed I love going low-cost -- though a tripod is the one area I invested in and bought a solid manfrotto, which I find helps reduce movement. Other than that, I find the key is to take all of your exposures AGAIN at the end in tandem, after "rehearsing/experimenting" with everything you will need.
      Then at the end, I make sure to make any movements as subtle as possible! Best of luck, Merry Christmas!

    Hi Dustin, I take shots on pure white with my camera's highlight warning turned on. When I shoot, the background is pure white/blown out, but when I put the same image in LR or PS 2018 CC, the bg isn't white, if I turn up the whites, the products' color is effected. Have to use selection/pen tool to separate my product from the bg and pull the whites up all the way. I've recently turned to catalog white product photography but have general photography experience of 6 years almost. Now I have 500-700 products to shoot and this is really hindering my workphlo. Any tips please?

    Hello . how to mount plexiglass to a tripod? . I was looking for a solution but without success. I'm sure it is very easy, but I do not know how to do it

      In my speedlight beauty care episode, you can see how it is attached with a nut. We actually had this rigged up with a custom weld!

    What about the table under the plexiglass? Can you write a link to the item?

    New question!! Is the plexi was cleaned by special material to not collecting dust?? It looked clean all the time, any ideas

      Great question! I actually just really thoroughly wipe it before filming and then blast it with the dust-blower before we go live!
      The dust blower is part of this Cleaning Kit:
      CAN: amzn.to/2xR81zk
      US: amzn.to/2fDqyFH
      UK: amzn.to/2yhyyrj

      There are silicone anti static cleaners that work well.

    • @workphlo
      @workphlo  Před 6 lety +2

      Hello Ariel, I used a bowl and threw the splash straight up. Though there are many different techniques for this kind of product photography, I encourage you to play around with the liquids and explore what works best!

      workphlo sure... I'm familiar with video editing software, but I never use photoshop/afinity. I understand it's probably basic, simple stuff but I would really appreciate a few min vid explaining exactly what and how you are doing. How to copy background to sides of the subject (wine bottle vid). Why create so many layers etc. Explain it like you would talk to someone who have never used ps or a chimp 😉

    Just discovered you. Really great work! Perhaps it was for time, but don't forget to remove the serial number in the reflection, too. I do mostly portrait work, but looking to expand into product work, as well. You and Karl Taylor are my go to for expanding my knowledge. Karl Taylor and you should link up. If you're in the New York area, hit me up on Facebook. Jason Riley Hoss Photography.

    Why is the flash on the right facing away from the subj3ect, but the flash on the left is facing towards it?

    • @workphlo
      @workphlo  Před 4 lety

      They are facing towards the camera (the stripboxes) so the gradients direction is towards the middle of the lable. If you went the other way, the gradients would be reversed.

    • @workphlo

    Why not chemically remove the back bottle content before shooting? there are plenty of solvents, while unhealthy, that will easily remove the ink, and then you clean the surface with alcohol or window cleaner and the problem is gone.
