So glad you're back! I'm trying to switch careers and get into product photography and I've been learning a lot from you. Thank you for doing these videos, it means the world to some of us.
That means a lot to me Steve, you can do it! Cheers
I can't explain how valuable these tutorials are to me! I've been working on starting my photography business and these videos have been the best tool ever!
That's wicked, I wish your business all the best.
Glad to see you making more videos! I’ve learned so much from you and really appreciate it man!
Thanks Kyle
This is a great video. So easy. It's great to see you again. Keep them coming.
Thanks it was fun to make
Great to have you back DD, thank you for your time and effort. So much good info here for us to go and play with.
Thanks Greg!
So glad to see you again Dustin. Love your work. Thank you for sharing another very informative tutorial.
Anthony, just caught this now. Thanks brother
Great to see you again Dustin!! 🤘thanks!
Thanks man
So good to have you back. Thanks for another amazing video. I have been missing them.
Hey David, thanks have a good weekend.
Welcome back!!!! Missed your videos!!
Thanks 💙
Dustin, you are hands down one of the BEST educators I've come across on CZcams!! I've been wanting to dabble into product photography for a while (to do something differently creative-wise) and binge-watching your videos has been inspiring! And being able to pick up the base plates and acrylic from your store, eeeeeven better!! Your videos are perfect, thank you for putting in the time and effort to make these!
Dude. You are the Bob Ross of product photography. Not in a bad cheesy way. In an inviting educational way; I look forward to seeing your videos though I don't do product photography specifically but it all relates to anything being lit and manipulating what's there.
Bless
Great to see you back Dustin! 👍👍👍
Cheers Dean
Also a fantastic image, I know I for one over complicate lighting trying to get the shot right.
I really hope there's more soon!
Wow - almost forgot how good these videos are! Thank you!!!
Thanks Jonas!!
whoa, that was so much valuable information in one video. Thanks so much for teaching, man!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey... just saying I’ve learnt heaps from your tutorials. You explain everything in a no nonsense, easy to follow way. Thanks dude
Jimmy so happy to read that. Cheers man
OK, everyone learning photography, how to use a camera, how to shape and modify light... LISTEN to Dustin! he KNOWS what he is talking about! he shows you don't need expensive gear, or lots of lights... just a clear understanding of how light works, how your basic DSLR captures it, and then how to modify layers in shop. Finally someone on CZcams who is teaching clear and correct fundamentals, without any rubbish! 👏👏 Dustin! especially pleased to see you use bits and bobs (Ikea) to solve problems.
Bless
Great to see you back Dustin. OMG! What an awesome but obvious tip - put a two second delay on you’re remote so you can move you’re reflectors into place. How did I not think of that!!! 👍
Thanks John
Found your little 'making deodarant dramatic' tutorial and was taken aback by your cool, no frills yet skilful insights. So glad to see you're now back and hopefully continuing with your very cool little vids. Love your style.. thx for sharing with us.
Thanks for the kind words!
It's great seeing a new video from you. You create fantastic tutorials and CZcams has been a little empty without you around. Bouncing back and forth between shooting and post work really broadens what you're trying to teach and I find it extremely helpful.
Thank you! Cheers
Welcome back!!! Love your tutorials
Thanks Blair! Check our new episodes
Happy to see you again... Your tutorials great
Happy to be here! Thank you Mukesh
me alegra mucho que hayas vuelto al juego, son los mejores tutoriales para empezar en la fotografía de producto sin gastar mucho dinero.
Esperamos muchos mas videos.
Bless!
Good work, as always! Tip: Alt-Ctrl-Shift-E will give you a new layer with all of the visible layers merged.
True, thanks man!
Your tutorials are so GOOD! keep them coming
Thanks Kasper. One coming this Monday
Fantastic tutorial as always thanks Dustin hope you're well

Woow... wonderful!!! thank you so much.
Thanks Marcelo no problem
Thanks for this one Dustin ! Very informative as always. Do you plan on making tutorials on bigger (size wise) products ?
I'd love to photograph a whole bike shop, but I'm open to anything. Stay tuned!
Glad to see you are back dude. =]
Word
Hii . You are back again after 1year .. I am so happy bro .. I hope this time I will learn something different 😊😊..
Absolutely! Wasn't quite a year ;)
New to channel (Liked & Subscribed!). Great content!
Hi Dustin, nice to see you back again in the studio! Many thanks for this video, it has been most helpful. What was the diameter of the ring you used please?
I believe it was the SMALL melodi I used here, there are 2.
Back!Great video!
Thank you !
welcome back!
:)
missed you man!! you are one of the reasons my product game went from "you should quit and sell your gear" to "yea, I'll pay you for that image". hope to see more stuff again from you!
Nick! Thanks man take care
how do you get clients to book for their product shoots
@@augustusbrooks181 Reach out to a bunch of them, work for 1 or 2 of them. Market yourself really well, then they will come to you. But keep reaching out, if you have the funds, buy one of the companies products, shoot some stuff of it, then you can send it over as part of a proposal, so they can see what you offer. Once you get 6-8 steady clients, they will tell their friends who need shots, and then it grows. It wasnt an overnight thing, but over a few years, you get a steady flow of work. With COVID I have seen a HUGE increase in e-commerce work as a lot of business went online full time and closed retail stores, or added wholesale distribution and opened Amazon stores.
I am trying to land a contract with a shoe store right now, so I have been doing what I mentioned above, shooting shoes, and displaying shoes on my social media so they can see a wider scope of shoe work that I offer as I have not previously shot shoes. So I am creating these assets on my own dime, with the hope I will secure the contract which will be a huge bump in revenue for the year.
Hi man! Love your channel and learning a lot, thank you! One stupid question, I am not managing to create a new layer filled with black, how to do that? Thanks!
Gotta google that one! It'll be something simple.
Nice
Thanks for watching
Hi nice videos..I'm learning a lot from you..were can I find the video for how to make a the diffuser ?
It is on our channel just search "DIY" ! Thanks
Insane value
Thank you Juan!
Amazing video
Cheers eh
at 14:41 you could click on the top layer and press shift+ctrl+alt+E top flatten everything into a new layer instead of grouping, then duplicating and then flattening.
Thanks!!
Excelente parabéns
Cheers
thank you for this outfit
No problem
I like how you showed each lighting change instance.
Something I noticed around the 16:45 mark was the part you covered up the camera reflection still seems like the gradient could be smoother... What value is it giving the final image by not being as smooth as it could?
You're right, I retouched that area a few times and it could have been smoother. At the time I thought it looked somewhat natural but I see what you mean 100%.
good job!
Thanks Oscar
Hey Dustin, can we have a tutorial for photographing a metallic can? A beverage can I'm asking about, soda/beer, anything like that. Would love to see your take on it
That would be so cool, definitely in the production pipeline somewhere!
you must be my long lost cousin "I don't do pen tool!" YES!!
Love it
Good to have u back Sifoo Dolby
Sifoo, you are too nice!
thx for the awesome tutorials! does product photography ever feel boring to you when you seemingly follow almost the same process every time?
Every product is unique enough that I still feel a burning passion! Thank you Dennis I appreciate you subscribing
Greetings from India !
Thanks! I love India
love your presentation and how you plan in advance to work out issues in Photoshop. I recently did a number of small cosmetic pieces using your videos as a reference and inspiration - main difference is that I have a number of large strobes and softboxes already. One question - I use Capture 1 to tether my camera (Nikon D850) to a MacBook Pro. I trigger the camera from the computer but this is often an issue when I am trying to hold a reflector card. Do you have any idea if the trigger you use conflicts with the Capture 1 software?
Hey Steve, thanks. I have a real cheap off brand remote from Amazon and it's never intefered with the software like that. But sometimes tethering software seems to be tricky with connections in general, hope you can get it sorted out. Cheers
Hey Steve. When shooting tethered, so long as your camera fires the image should go through to C1. The type of trigger shouldn’t matter. I’ve used wired and wireless remotes, laser and sound triggers, weird timer things- all of them fine.
Would you revisit bottles? Capturing whisky in a new way would be awesome.
Hey Nick did you see our last episode? Shot a vodka bottle
Hello there. What camera and lens do you use for product photography? I take guitar and violin photos. There is a lot of reflection. can you make a video about it
That would be an interesting subject for sure! I use a nikon d5100 and the kit lens 18-105mm
how important is accurate color rendition for your clients? do you ever use tools such as color charts for example? thx
I do and have a video coming out on that soon
Thanks so much, extremely helpful, Note: get the heat fixed in the studio :P
It's hot now!
How did you place the lamp shade?
ohhhhh shit! a new video!
Boom 2 more, check out our vodka photoshoot.
i miss u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHEERS
what's the black straps between lens and lamp shade?
It is a clamp holding the Melodi I believe
Hey What lens do you use?
I use a kit lens, the 18-105mm
I love your videos, but also i would love if you can teach the entire process of editing for beginners like me, because if you have a nice photo but not idea how to edit it is not good at all.
I will make a total beginner video some day, hopefully soon.
what camera do you use NikonD5100?
Yes 100%
Hi Dustin, just for curiosity, how did you clean the objects to be so "cgi like"?! :)
Good question! I use the patch tool, so when a gradient casts across a surface it is truly a clean gradient transition which produces the "feels" of CGI sometimes I think
@@workphlo just arrived my first/new 20x90 stripbox...want to test your tecnique!I've just a stripbox and a 90cm softbox with 2 flashes (Godox V1 and AD200 Pro) ...maybe is better to try a composite, instead of use different lighting sources...what do you think?
@@workphlo i was talking about "cleaning" the real object, not in post production =)
Too little video. Need more these awesome video
I agree Jason, look out for more!
Nice lumberjack costume...
Oh Roy!
What sensor resolution is required for commercial product shooting (i.e. you wanted to make a business of it)
APSC or larger
I use a crop sensor which is bottom of the barrel for my type of shooting
Hey what dslr did you use to shoot this with ?
It's at the end my friend, a Nikon D5100 with the kit lens
@@workphlo wow I thought I misheard it lol. I have the d5100 with kit lense but I never thought it can do something like this. Wow 😍
@@workphlo 18-55 kit lense right ?
Your videos are too good, but please post more. We are not seeing any latest videos from you sir
We are here and uploading! Check it
@@workphlo Thank you
Hey Dustin - It's been a while. Where have you been?
Had to do a bid, thanks for watching Phillip.
Why did you downgrade your camera?
D7000 took a tumble, it films now.
It's pronounced like "melody"
Really? Makes sense now that I think about it
Probably not a good idea to wear a watch with the word “Late” on it 😅
metal looks like plastic
I like your videos, but sometimes I get lost in your language which seems strange to me... "It for some food traction..."? I often have to watch them on mute.
Lol when did I say "It for some food traction" ? Do you mean the auto-translate?
Hey I see you creating a bunch of solid color layers with a mask... you can also use a "solid color" adjustment layer to save a few clicks and reduce filesize!
Thanks for the tip! Seriously love that.
