- This is a short review of the new direction S9 bite alarms. I explain about some of the features and what I like and dislike about them. These alarms are ideal if you're looking at the budget end of the market but want something stylish with a small form factor. They're a aesthetically pleasing on the eye and offer fantastic functionality at a brilliant price point of around £110

Another great video Steve. Short and sweet. I have to agree with you on the fact that they are good aesthetically
These look really good, thank u steve all ways nice detail in the video will keep these in mind when I need some new alarms.......
Nice review steve i must say they really do look nice i like how compact they look good to see u are well stay safe and i hope u and your family have a merry xmas and a hapoy and healthy new year cheers bud
I agree with the water in the speaker mate ,
It's irritating
hello I have a question ... I recently bought 2 such alarms, I wanted to ask if you pull the line quickly, do you also hear the roller moving loudly?
Very informative as usual Steve. Were you at filming at Cofton? The platform looked familiar
Yes it was
How u getting on with them fancy a change from my old alarms.
To look at they look like a modern version of the old Steve Neville alarms. I like the looks however there are too many negatives for me. Having an open port on the bottom of the receiver when I might put it on a table outside as it is easier to hear than in my pocket is a big no no and as you have already pointed out that it is not water resistant.
I think New Direction make some stunning products, that I would definitely buy when I need to replace my current gear, and they also make some appalling ones that I can't help but think they don't know the market and what is needed. They seem to be too driven by tech rather than practicality. They need more anglers on their design team and less tech guys. Who wants messages on your receiver? I wear reading glasses, am I going to go and find them to see what the latest message is when a couple of LED's will do that perfectly well? Not sure if these receivers have this info or if it is just the top of the range ones but do I need to know that something just took 11mm of line when a beep or two on the alarm will tell me the same thing much easier? I think some of their designs are fantastic but they ruin them by overcomplicating things when there is no benefit to do so. Probably one of the reasons they have been around for a while but you rarely see any of their gear on the bank which is a great shame.
Can you please rate the new direction k9 set please next time?
The K9's are some of the best alarms I've ever used, they were absolutely bulletproof, sensitive and user friendly. The only problem I had with them was that the dials on the front did have a habit of falling off in transit and I had to get ND to send me some replacements which they did without charge, a small dab of superglue prevented this from happening again. Mine unfortunately got stolen and I replaced them with the S9's which I was less of a fan of as I had a few reliability issues and never fully trusted them in bad weather.
I have had mine for 2 years they have started disconnecting from receiver mid session and also if using in rain that means no sound from alarm as water affects the speakers worth them money but won't last
Hi John.
Thanks for the report I will be doing a follow up review once I've owned them a little longer and have used them through more bad weather.
@@BivvyLifeso what you think as am looking at getting some ….don they connect to all ND products ??????
There good alarms, I really like them with tons of features, however, one of mine now does not turn on after heavy rain so there extremely unreliable. Customer service is also terrible.
Got a problem with one alarm,it has no sound from alarm but sound only through receiver
Yes this is a common fault a mentioned in this review you'll find that rainwater has entered the front speaker. You should be able to dry it out, the sound will then return.
Tight lines
Steve
@@BivvyLife I haven’t even used them yet
Might me worth sending them back and getting an exchange pal.
what you think as am looking at getting some ….don they connect to all ND products ??????
In a nutshell they're good for a couple of years. You'll be lucky to get much longer out of them.
@@BivvyLife so not as good as ATTs then ?????
Not a chance. Bells and whistles yes, reliability no.
@@BivvyLife ah I’ll not bother then , cheers for that , shame really …..
Only issue I've had with them is the app is pants
What's the specific problem with the app?
@@BivvyLife it disconnects from the reciver quite alot.
So u saying there pants lol 😆
