    I'm a Vox guy through and through; there is just something perfect about that chime, both perfectly dirty and clean at the same tome. That being said, that preset into the OX was just phenomenal, practically capturing all the best parts of a cranked Vox. Killer!

  • @frankmarkowinstructionalvi8863

    Played around with this at summer name last year, it is a truly impressive piece of gear. Your amps, your tone, but able to get them "into" the box silently and with style.

    Yes!!! Completely agreed Pete. I got mine this week as well and I'm stunned by how much I love it. Even just sitting around the house with headphones it's really satisfying to have it sound so good and not have to run a DAW or other program in conjunction to run IR's.

    • @MrTrixzzzz
      @MrTrixzzzz Před 5 lety

      William Lang so i can plug my amp into this thing and completely shut the cabinet off and plug my headphones into it and play my amp like that? Seems too good to be true but thats a deal breaker. If i can do that without having to use an app or interface thru a computer im definitely buying it. I just wanna get the tone from my amp but quietly using headphones.

  • @johndoyle325
    @johndoyle325 Před 6 lety

    Hey Pete, love your videos. I have learned SO much from your clear and comprehensive explanations! Here’s the dilemma I’m facing: what is the best option for late night tube amp recording? You have long been a proponent of IR’s, and I was ready to pull the trigger on the Suhr reactive load box/convolution reverb/IR option. Now along comes the OX... and I’m again uncertain. The OX is definitely the more expensive option. The question is - in your opinion - are the results worth the extra cost?

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn  Před 6 lety +1

      +John Doyle both work exceptionally well, with the Suhr it’s a simple straightforward box that you’ll need to add ir’s in your daw or an analog speaker sim to, So it’s a bit different approach. With the UA, they’ve integrated everything quite beautifully all together. I could get great results with both,
      It’s just a question of which approach you want to take, and what’s important to you.

      +Danny_Misleading sort of did that in my load box vid from a few years ago- tough to compare exactly because in the case of this one, it has its own cabs/mics etc no way to use them with another load (I dont think so at least)

    @IbervilleMusic Před 6 lety +1

    I'd like them to take on Kemper with a guitar/bass specific grab and go box that you can just use your purchased UAD plugins and control via iPad like that. This is a game changer for the studio but still a bit too impractical for me live, you still have to lug an amp around. (lazy I know) Seriously if this thing could do both Unison amp modeling AND be a reactive load when I have an amp I'd totally get it.

    This product seems custom made for my live playing needs, but seems optimized for studio:
    1. Wall wort with proprietary oddball connector.
    2. No XLR- needs a DI box
    3. Doesn't look durable enough to not have a case. Odd size to put in a case.
    4. Price is very high
    Sounds great though. I'll probably ending up saving and getting one anyway, despite my gripes.

  • @JayRutherford1

    Hey Pete/all - question about effects loops and transitioning between live and recording situations - let’s say I have two tube amps slaved with an effects loop in stereo (timeline/eventide stuff in a series loop) ala Andy Timmons. If I wanted to transition to an in ears silent setup with one amp, the ox box, and stereo, would I run all my drives into the amp, then into the ox box, and instead of using the amps effects loop then run the line out of the ox in stereo and adjust the inputs and outputs on the eventide to line level right into a mixer or daw?

      +gony92 hi- not a dumb question at all- the sound is the modeled speaker cabs/mics- so no Guitar cab is involved here, this sound is d.i. But yes I could have this sound going to interface or to a pa, and also have a guitar cab plugged in and hear sound through the Guitar cab

    • @PeteThorn

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn  Před 4 měsíci

    • @uriteimwrong7317
      @uriteimwrong7317 Před 6 lety

      Julien Valois Dobbie keep your amps because they’re the best. And buy a kemper if possible. Do not sell your amps though or pedals. Kemper’s close but no cigar. Powered Kemper is just plug in to a cabinet and play.

    • @user-oy7gz5bf2h
      @user-oy7gz5bf2h Před 6 lety

      Yeah, it's not as sexy to me as traditional gear. But for a home studio, it makes a lot of sense. Considering I don't have uber preamps and mics and/or expertise at mic'ing cabinets. Friend of mine just sold his Two Rock to get a Kemper. He's super pleased with it. Haven't heard him play it live, but the small videos he made are very convincing. Still, the OX looks very promising and usable live.

      I would set it (OX) for 4 ohms, and just connect the main speaker out of the amp to the Ox, then the Ox speaker out to the amps speakers. Then you can use the internal OX attenuator to turn down your super reverb, and take the OX line out into a recording interface or pa for the mic’d up tones
