- It's been a big year for Hope Darst! She released her debut album last month and the first single, 'Peace Be Still' is getting radio play nationwide! She stopped by the newly re-opened #CCMmag Cafe today and gave us this super cool, acoustic version of the breakout song + the story behind it.

Wow! Just purely an amazing song. I recently went through a storm of my own. This is a long story, so get comfortable. I had regrettably ended up doing something 2 years ago that got me in jail for 8 months. I got out, and did 6 months of parole, only to wind up back in, which is something I NEVER saw coming AT ALL. Early on, it was just supposed to be a parole violation. I was threatened by an assisting agency, however, that I could be looking at 10-15 years in federal prison, so I was naturally VERY upset and concerned. Turned out to be a state charge. Still, I was VERY depressed and anxious. About a few weeks in, as I was sleeping during the day (as many inmates do), I had a dream. It was part of a larger overall dream, but only one thing stuck out. I was going back and forth through my parents' house, putting books away and other stuff into the shed. I went through our den one way, past an empty couch that my mother "claims." Then when I came back, she was sitting there on the couch, and she said, "By the way, God told me to tell you not to be worried about your case." When I woke up, I thought, "OK, that's odd." I prayed that if that really was from God (not just a random part in a dream), that He would give me some encouragement through my family while on the phone. Sure enough, that happened. This started a chain reaction of just having to have faith and peace. The deal on the table was 18 months. I didn't want that, so I offered something else - 12 months. Rejected. In the meantime, I had my public defender try to gather the evidence that showed it was directly connected to my previous case, and what was found were old things that weren't even taken or at least looked into by the officers in my first case, which is actually wrong on THEIR part. (It doesn't help that I didn't follow the exact correct procedure with it either). Well, my public defender was busy for months with other trials and also ended up contracting COVID. I was admittedly getting frustrated and tired. Each time I went back to court, I was told no on the counter-offer. Finally, just shy of 11 months in, I was told "OK, but you are going to have to plead guilty. You can actually go home today." I had a problem with my mode of transportation, so I said "OK, but can we push it back a few days?" Came back a few days later and the deal I signed was "no contest," not "guilty." Now I'm back home! I am still on the same parole I had from beforehand, so I have less time to do than I had thought! If you happened to read all the way through, please pray for me that I WILL NOT end up back in.
