      the only people in history to think other wise were southern americans because Italians have a different culture (it had nothing to do with skin, blood, etc)
      as for romans, the orginal romans were latin people, and the largest number of citizens for most of the empire were of latin/italian or greek descent with an ever increaseing number of provincials becoming romans. no arabs or sub sarahran arabs were part of the empire (although they in theory could join as auxilia from outside the empire) but what I am saying is the evidence shows they would have been light to olive skinned Caucasianoids which under most definitions is white. and the romans of rome were definitely white

    In a true capitalist economy, businesses grow old and die, making way for freshly inspired entrepreneurial business ventures. Trying to put old money on life support is foolish - especially if it's done with taxpayer money. If we think it's fiscally immoral to just give government money to poor people who can't seem to manage their lives properly, then is it not just as reprehensible to give it to wealthy individuals who can't seem to manage a business worth billions?

They destroyed Saab, pulled out of Europe in 2017, have decided not to produce RHD vehicles and are leaving Australia at the end of 2020, and ALSO lost 4 billion in the North American market this year. They took billions off the Australian government to guarantee that they would keep our car factories open for 5 years. Closed them in 18 months. Then spent the last 3 years using the bailout money to fund gay marriage and gender pay gap BS. And now they're finished. Ford and the asian cars will now dominate the market and we have chinese stuff here too. Some has been here for like 14 years and it's no worse than GM stuff tbh.

      @whatisupmyfellowamericans8808 Před 4 lety +6

      @treydarling Productivity is not the same thing as value. The rise in productivity came about because of innovations in the methods of producing things, not because workers magically started producing more. Think of it with an example. Say that it costs $10 to pay a worker to stand in an assembly line an assemble a product by hand. Now say that a new machine comes out that automates the process of assembly, but it needs human oversight, and that oversight is worth $10. In the end, the actual _value_ of the worker's labor did not go up, just how much he could _do_ with his amount of labor.

    • @whatisupmyfellowamericans8808
      @whatisupmyfellowamericans8808 Před 4 lety +5

      @treydarling Workers as an economic standard built the wealth that allowed wealthy people to innovate, that is true, but the individual workers themselves were not the ones who innovated. That fell to the wealthy to do since they actually had the resources to innovate.
      And then the single most common argument for an increased minimum wage. "If we give people more money they will be able to buy more things." At face value this makes sense, but you would have to be assuming that A) people actually get the raise instead of cut hours or lay offs and B) that they actually spend enough to make up the difference instead of, say, saving that money away like a reasonable person would do. You, in a sense, have to hope that people are _just_ as financially irresponsible and impulsive as they are now.
      I never said anything about pay _decreasing_ with automation, only that pay isn't going to go _up_ because of it. Unless you mean workers losing their jobs (and thus their pay) because of automation, which is a different topic and a different discussion.

      With inflation, wages and buying power have actually decreased for the poor.
      According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index, prices in 2018 are 206.90% higher than prices in 1980.
      The dollar experienced an average inflation rate of 2.99% per year during the period From 1980 - 2018
      In other words, $6 in 1980 is equivalent in purchasing power to $18.41 in 2018, a difference of $12.41 over 38 years.
      So the poor working for $6 an hour had purchasing power much higher than those earning minimum wage today.
      I think the price of most consumer goods may have risen since 1980 when you compare and adjust for inflation.
      So actually the poor do not get richer at all. They can buy less than their predecessors.

    • @grantjohnson5785
      @grantjohnson5785 Před 3 lety +6

      The rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer *relative to the rich* is a natural result. Think about learning. Smarter kids tend to learn faster, so while they may start with just a small advantage over overage kids in elementary school, they tend to have a HUGE advantage by high school and even more thereafter. It's just a natural result of being born (and/or raised / trained, depending on your perspective) smarter.
      Meanwhile, if you are born and/or raised richer, you already have some wealth upon which to build - not necessarily a WHOLE bunch, but let's compare a kid whose parents can contribute 10k towards his college vs. a kid whose parents can't contribute a dime. Assuming all else held equal (scholarships, cost, major, race, sex, talent, etc.) that 10k extra (assuming no differences in FAFSA results, which is unlikely, but let's run with it) either means that student needs to work fewer hours and can therefore study more during college, or that students has to take out less in loans and therefore has to repay *even* less, or some combination of the two.
      It is entirely true to say that some kids are just born "disadvantaged" in one way or another - the three primary factors being (imho) parental involvement, wealth, and intellect. (Physical attractiveness also contributes to success, but depends largely on fluctuating societal norms whereas the previously mentioned are quite consistent.) But it's not as if those factors are entirely predetermined. Parents have nearly limitless control over how involved they are in their childrens' education, particularly in the early years. Read to your kid for a while every day, and their chances of success skyrocket.
      Similarly, if you *invest* your money wisely, even a little bit, early on, you will reap the rewards when you are older. Lack of investment, ultimately, is what keeps the majority of the poor poor... just as lack of parental involvement (investment) is a key factor in the majority of intellectually deficient children.

If you spend all of your money the instant you get it on temporary pleasure, is it anyone else’s fault if you run out of money? @@imme251 I'm not sure what you're asking, honestly. What do you mean equal labour or equal pay? In this metaphor, the pizza is the "pay". It's what you get in exchange for the labour involved. And he would have to put in an equal amount of labour towards "acquiring" the oven if it's a situation exactly like the one presented in the cartoon (though obviously such a scenario in real life wouldn't happen). If they're literally building the oven, then this could range from anything from physically helping build it, acquiring the materials themselves, or even exchanging their labour for someone else's labour towards building the oven.
      Why wouldn't you be able to fund such a pizzeria oven (which you'll note is quite different from someone's personal oven, which makes this a quite different scenario from the one in the cartoon) publicly the way many services are done currently? The oven is "given" by the community as a whole with the expectation that it will be used to make pizzas that anyone would have access to.

      @@charlesjohnson7657 "So who decides what an equal amount of labor is" No one "decides". It's based off primarily effort + time. Capitalism is the system that arbitrarily assigns value. Socialism does not. I don't see what two "totally different jobs" affects at all.
      "What happens to the guy who doesn't do enough labour? He just...doesn't get food?" No, that's what happens under Capitalism. Generally, Socialists will always guarantee basic necessities such as food, water, housing, healthcare, and education (though they also guarantee *decent* employment, so there is little reason to not work barring physical or mental disabilities, which are things that would be accounted for just as they are under the current system, though to a "better" degree) to everyone regardless. But even if they *didn't* , under Socialism such thing's "prices" would be much lower than they are under Capitalism, since there is no profit motive, which is the primary cause for people being unable to afford them.
      "And why should we trust the government to do all of t his perfectly?" Perfectly? What does "perfectly" mean? Nothing is ever done "perfectly". And very rarely do things need to be done "perfectly" in order to be done "adequately". And you'd "trust" the government to do these things because under Socialism the government is truly elected by the people for the people and are *accountable* to the people. This is hardly a universally decided upon aspect, but the view that many, and that I myself currently hold, is to have "immediately recallable representatives". Combine this with the fact that class will have been abolished, money will have been replaced by labour vouchers (the key differences between this and money being that labour vouchers "disappear" after being "spent" and are non-transferable) and that private property does not exist, there's is very little *incentive* for corruption. What would one gain out of it? There is no bribe you could receive because there are no millionaire "donors" and even if there were, labour vouchers are non-transferable.

    First-world poverty is more about the stress of working long hours - or the opposite: not finding enough work, and constantly being worried about not affording rent and ending up on the street.
    These are real problems that can be solved by:
    1. Learning how to eat healthy for cheap, and not wasting food.
    2. Abolishing the zoning laws that keep good housing in short supply.
    Ever wonder why city rents are so expensive, and the only cheap places to live are in the middle of nowhere?
    It's not because of the free market. It's because in most neighborhoods, there are zoning laws that make it illegal to build anything except houses. So all the good stuff gets concentrated into 1 area while everyone else has to commute.

    When ever someone talks about the wealth inequality, just say this.
    Why dose it matter if the rich are getting richer, if we ourselves are getting richer, just not as fast. Quality of life improvements are better than communism. Where the quality did not really change for the people in the USSR throughout the entirety of its existence. While that may sound crazy, as it dose, think about it. People in the USSR always had to worry about food. The joke goes that the USSR only started to import food in the 80s because the Tsar’s grain supply only lasted 70 years. In our nation people do not have tor worry if there is going to be a good harvest or not, when in the USSR the state of the farms was front page news. The ability not to worry about feeding your family is a very recent development, in red nations like North Korea, people still have to worry about their families food situation.

    As population increases, people will get less and less money in a socialist country. The only way to combat this would be to *force* more labor unto the people, or to print more money which leads to inflation

    • @Cloud_Seeker
      @Cloud_Seeker Před 5 lety +1

      Either of those happened and that isn't how the economy worked. You can get problems with the economy in quite a few ways, you can have deflation where there is not enough money for the system to operate, and inflation where there is to much money making it worthless. With a increasing population productivity will also increase since those people will try to be productive. This does not mean the system will run out of money as the BNP will go up as more products can be made. If you have this problem you should print more money so the money will not run out as it can't circulate the system fast enough. You will not have the issues of forcing people to do more labor as the reason you have to print more money is because you lack the money due to higher productivity.
      The reason most socialists states forced people to work was because they wanted higher productivity without adding more people into it. People had to be forced to work as they gained little for working which means they only worked what was required by them.
      Just because you get a higher population does not mean you get less and less money, that thinking is just retarded.

      Printing money follows the same rules of supply and demand. The less money being printed, the lower the prices. The more money being printed, the higher the prices. If everyone was rich, then the stores have to raise prices to prevent from running out of stock. And for what? Worthless piles of paper in exchange for everything in their stores?
      If the government would STOP PRINTING MONEY, then the money today could start actually becoming MONEY! And then $100 would give you actual $100, instead of $100 = $1.

    • @Cloud_Seeker
      @Cloud_Seeker Před 5 lety

      @@USAFreewayROTF I don't think stop printing money is an issue, in for example the EU we have a central bank that focuses on limiting inflation at all cost even if there isn't any inflation to limit. Printing money isn't always bad. If productivity and the economy grow, you will eventually find that the money you have does not get circulated fast enough for everyone to keep on doing business as usual. If that happens there isn't enough supply to fulfill the demand for the money itself, and money have to be printed. It will deflate the worth of the money yes, but it will allow everything to work. You can not have a economic system where 1000 people are supposed to share on a total of 100 dollars where everyone owns 1 dollar.
