  • The value 27648 has simply been selected as the maximum normal range value of any analog signal transfered to the CPU by a Siemens analog module. This numerical value is independant of the resolution of the particular analog module used (this is a way to standardize all scaling of analog readingsin the processor)
For unipolar data, this would mean 0 to 27648 represents full range; above 27648, overrange, below 0, underrange.See the attached illustration for the equivalent numeric values iof a 4-20 mA or 0-20 mA signal.
The basic configuration of the analog modules is best explained in the S7-300 module Data manual:

Look at the chapters on Principles of Analog value processing and Representation of the analog values of analog modules.

This is a great explanation as well depiction for someone new or refreshing and well explained. I do believe the raw value limit changes depending on the type of PLC System. I mostly only work with RA-Rockwell Automations products here in the U.S. working with my Senoir Automations Engineer. My background into my current job was from a Mechanic/Plant Operator job into Field Service Engineer/Automations. I would Major Plant PLC Upgrades helping my Senoir Engineer and so much questions I’d ask because at best I just didn’t understand how a PLC operated under the hood. Scaling would confuse the hell out of me. Because sometime we be upgrading a PLC-5 system, other times a SLC system or upgrading them all to ControlLogix system and in the setting of the Analog Scaling, they are all different in their value for each the different PLCs. This confused the hell out of me for quite a while. And I do believe it can confuse others as well in not being aware of the different PLC systems or generation type of PLCs. And I think it is something to point out.

Well done sir, Even a fresher can able to understand " what actually analog process" in industry sectors..!
It will be very benefit, if we get PID Process Concepts in any PLC with Real Time Example...! Such as value assigning for (PID Controller)
