You can safely do that. Dorian has more "juice" though.

My best way to come up with creative melodies on guitar.
Why do most such backing tracks on youtube assume that the viewer is practicing on a guitar? For instance, I practice on a harmonica and I imagine that flutists, trumpet players, cellists, etc. might want to practice to this backing track too. Anyway, nice backing track.
I would produce backing tracks for other instruments if I receive requests. Please tell me how to make this backing track better for you? If produce a bass & drum version of this would it be useful?
@@chusssMusic I have no problems with the backing track. It's nice. I'm happy with everything about it. I guess most demand for backing tracks comes from the guitarists crowd? I'm just surprised that this is the case. As for me, I guess it would a tiny bit helpful if instead of guitar instructions on the screen, you had instrument-agnostic instructions, but tbh it's fine, I don't really care.

it is Em7, you can play the Dorian mode along with it.
just play D major / B minor scales / pentatonic

A technical question, why doesn't a "C" note work with this. I mean to me it sounds good, or am I tone deaf?
it sound good as a passing tone, and it sounds interesting to your ear because it resolves to the 6th which is one of the defining tones of the Dorian mode. I think that is a logical explanation.. at least to me :)
This is a very good video, Chuss Music, thank you for it. Along with CM's answer, perhaps since the song is in the key of D major, and C, C#, D are notes in the blues scale of D, your are hearing that C harmonically in blues or minor voicings.
C isn't in the d major scale
