To everyone that actually played mercenaries as a kid, I love you.
Love you too
Let’s see what this tin can-can do
@@davio7031 hah!! Classic.
Holy free holy!
Left right left left , right left right right and up down, up Down , left right, left right won't ever be forgotten 😂
The music in this game is fucking legendary.
That's the magic of Lucasarts, bro !
That's Michael Giacchino for ya.
Him and Harry Gregson-Williams
for those interested, here on youtube there is a video of the full orchestra playing the main theme. Apparently this video was supposed to be placed as a bonus in the game, but at the last minute they gave up on the idea.
Video Name: Mercenaries Main Theme Music Video
It's actually able to match my love for martin O'Donnell, Steve Vai , and Michael Salvatore x3
I would do anything for someone to port it to PC. This game was too amazing.
Emulators?
RRW there is but it would be so much better to have a proper pc adaption
@@RRW359 Emulators technically work but this game is riddled with graphic glitches that makes it unbearable to play
Theres the xbox backwards compatibility
@@Balaz5HUN I ended up getting one just for this game LMAO
Hidden Valley Bunker has to be among the greatest pieces of music ever crafted for a video game.
Gives me goosebumps each time. I always find it difficult NOT to do the South Korean missions, because they have the best track in the soundtrack.
Agreed.
i was looking for this but didnt know the name. Thank You
@@sipsofhell9018 Funny you say that, same exact thing here.
This is game that fueled my love for gaming... this is the one that started it all. Absolutely amazing game and honestly still the best game soundtrack ever made thanks to Michael Giacchino
I miss the days when developers would pay a whole big ass orchestra just so they can use the music in one mission.
Amazing game for its time
+cb430sbro i ordered it on amazon since theres barely any stores that sell it now i can relive life again
not for its time...its to date one the best game's ever! the atmosphere just makes you want to keep going.
I would fucking kill to play this again.
Especially back in it's hayday
Avalible on Xbox store playing it now
PCSX2 can emulate it easily now
The Soundtrack has this 80's military style action movie music to it.
It's crazy how Merenaries was made before Kim Jong Un went into power after his father died, but the game's plot could easily happen in real life now.
unless kim has seen the game.
Nah, the game takes place during a north korean military coup, but Un and his government are pretty secure rn.
War of Korea existed
It would never happen. It would be a cold day in hell before North Korea ever presented a real threat to the world. It would end in their immediate surrender.
Honestly yeah, I mean the Korean war never really "Ended", America would probably help the South Koreans, and China + Others would totally capitalize off of it.
Swings me back to the good old days of Mercanaries playground of destruction on ps2 it means an ungodly amount more to me than any other game. I loved going to the northern Provence to take a black hawk and the U.S. Soldier saying 'what the hell?!' to Mattias Nilsson. The ps2 game was a classic i love sniping the pilots to get attack helecopters.
I always felt so bad killing them, but I really wanted the chopper...
still run this game on my 360. officially bought for the ps2 but sometimes ill load it up. if only it gained the traction of the gta franchise and EA wasn't.. well.. EA
Is Mercs Pod backwards compatabile on Ps4/5?
We have it on Xbox One.. Its beyond nostalgic. One of my all time favourites.
@@alexdenton1174 No I do not believe so. The only way to play it is to buy a console and the game, Amazon probably has all that stuff.
Fastest way to travel was to put on infinite health cheat and then you call in a fuel air bomb just in front of one of those tiny airport cars, then you get in the tiny car and fly in the direction of your choice lol
57:25 right before you jump out with your humvee outta the airplane into the DMZ....the beggining of the gameplay itself
Love how Michael Giacchino has used similar elements in his future scores (Star Trek, Ghost Protocol, the Incredibles).
I think games soundtrack along with incredibles helped springboard his career, this is still the most professionally done score I've ever seen in a game.
I instantly recognized Giacchino from his work in Secret Weapons Over Normandy. Incredibly similar sounding.
The soundtrack is really well composed. I especially love the incorparation of korean drums and stuff. The essence of each faction is really well captured, and it acompanies the gameplay really well.
I love this game. Getting into a Gunship and blasting away the NK entrenchments...SOOO MUCH BOOOOOOM!!!!!!
9:56
Capturing a card, epicness. Deck of 52. Hidden Valley Bunker. Family Business. Countdown. Hard to tell which track tops it, all amazing tracks!
Thermal Event for me, but whole soundtrack is awesome.
Check out Medal of Honor Frontline too if you haven't, also Michael Giacchino. It's the shit.
The Nostalgia!!! Had to of been one of my all time favourite PS2 games. The plane drop when you had to get into the vehicle and land in Korean territory was freaking epic.
I think of this moment from time to time
That 51.26 music transistion when the nuclear missiles are taking off around you as your storm that last fortress is such an awesome scene. Heck that whole last mission is very cool from start to finish.
This is one of my favorite albums of all time period, it could’ve been applied to any piece of media and itd still slap it’s literally such overkill it blows my mind
so glad they went with an orchestra
This game was what spurred my interest in politics and international relations. Fuck I love this game so much, I cant be the only one who appreciated the intricate, dirty, yet realistic political dynamics in this game! Everything from the graphics to the gameplay reflected this gritty, detailed portrayal of what modern warfare is actually like. Something that was pretty rare at the time, especially considering that Iraq and Afghanistan operations where still going strong. Anyway, this game really spurred an interest in me and 10 years later, I'm getting paid to research the TPP in Washington DC. Hopefully on track to be employed by the CIA and help field operatives bag some clubs, hearts, and diamonds ;)
No, you're not the only one. I enjoyed the game for its dark atmosphere (a hint at how a hardened soldier might view the world around him/her.)
I agree
When an open world was just that and breaking things was down to "are you willing to pay to have that air strike called in?" The aces were a pain, but so very satisfying.
Honor and strength track number 9 easily one of the most engaging and blood pumping pieces from the whole soundtrack.... those drums and the Cadence behind them absolutely makes you feel like you can take on a whole country just by your self!
Best video game intro ever
This game is absolutely timeless. 10/10. Need to revisit this era of game making.. can we get a resurgence?
This is definitely my favorite military game of all time. Wish they would remaster it on current console or port it to PC
We need this game remastered and added to new generation consoles! I hope that the backwards compatibility will include this game too
Yeah, on PC too. Now i think it, I think it's possible to remake it with Unreal engine.
You got your wish backwards compact on Xbox 1
it's okay for Xbox now...

Q. .
Excellent. You are prompt and discreet, of this I approve.
i love this game to death
Mattias Nilsson is the best character in this game. Change my mind
My fav Was Jacobs no Cap
Naw Jennifer Mui is...no cap
Honestly Song is the best character. He has such an epic final contract and the game wouldn't exist without him.
This is one of my all-time favorite games!
one of the Few times in games where a PMC has actually been good guys take that ATLAS Ex-Ops took down a North Korean dictator all his lutenists and didn't try and make themselves king after they did it only in it for the money and to u know save the world from WW3
Technically, I don’t think PMCs are the bad guys most of the time. They just aren’t on your side because you aren’t the one paying them to be on your side. I doubt that all PMCs can afford to refuse contracts even if they consider said contracts are immoral. Don’t believe me? Well that’s too bad, because life doesn’t work that way. Not every hero can get lucky enough to never have to do something bad. Some heroes make sacrifices that nobody is willing to make. Not because they want to, but because they’re in a situation where they have no other choice. Would you rather kill 1 innocent person to save 5 innocent people or would you prefer to do nothing and let all of them die? Either way, innocent blood is going to be on your hands. You just have to choose how much of it you want be on them.
As others have said epic game, loved coursing uncharted territory in a jeep then finding a hvt hiding on a hill. Also the Russian black market, blowing up nearly anything in sight, speaking to faction bosses and playing one against the other.
For me it would be this and pro evolution on the P2. Also loved the complexity of the last mission, took me a while to find the path up the mountain.
Imagine playing this masterpiece in Coop. Driving a bus through Ichon freaked by tanks around you.
The first Mercenaries is an epic. Mercenaries 2 is a broken mess that is an insult to the Mercenaries name.
+luckycharms8282 I think the game aged well, unless you were talking about Mercenaries 2 on the PS2. PS2 version was a real down grade.
+luckycharms8282 Agreed. I'd support a new game that takes place after the events of POD, but rules the events of WIF as never happening.
Yes , i agree , the mercs 1 , is one of the bests games only world...
The 2 , he's fucked up with all , but is a great game ....
but , de first , is an epic game , he's entered in the history...
I played the second mercenaries, I really don't remember (I was like five or six then and excited because the first was amazing), but what made the second so terrible? I remember that it was, but not why.
Now if we're talking about the first, heck I remember that one like the back of my hand. I could point on the map different locations of HVT's from memory. Good game.
2 is still alright, I wouldn't call it a broken mess but the first is so epic it's hard to beat.
The best game in the World i hope i can see this game on PS5 one day…😞😞💔
Listen to Deck Of 52, Show Me The Mercenary, Countdown, The Blinding Flash, and then finally Thermal Event all in order and you have the ultra final boss theme. They really did well on the Ace soundtracks.
Always loved the soundtrack for this game, because it captures the emotions of war really well. While the game itself is comical in places, it did a good job of showing how chaotic and terrible war really is.
For the Motherland has a very melancholic atmosphere to it, highlighting the hunger, sorrow, and loss the people are suffering
Family Business right after gives the air of a Russian mobster out for revenge after seeing his brothers die.
Sniper gave the vibes of wounded soldiers at the Mash being patched up, only to have to go back into the field because reinforcements take forever to arrive.
30:34 melts me every time 🥵 🤤
this song for some reason is very scary and beautiful at the same time
The feeling of watching something unfold that cannot be stopped. Only witnessed.
19:12 The music strikes fear into your soul. They would have tore your beating heart from your chest for a little green if you crossed them.
"Good Lucky" remeber?
who is whatching it in 2019 ? This sound tracks made me with nostalgia and Many memories... i wanna play again...
The BEST game of the world !
Too much nostalgia for one man. Holy shit tears, too many tears 😭
this game was what made me interested in geo politics programming and wars, I swear that one day I will have the opportunity to relive the aesthetics of this classic
Anyone else got reminded of Star Wars music when listening to some of the soundtracks in Mercenaries? It makes sense because the publisher of this game is LucasArts.
30:34
Yay Yay I played this game when I was like 9 and I always got stuck and this song came on. memories
For The Motherland, Hidden Valley Bunker, Sniper, Trouble At Work, Best Carpool Lane, so many sections are actually amazing orchestrally. the presence of these tracks completely subverted my expectations of the game going in, there's quite a juxtaposition between the ethereal background music and some of the most dramatic and intense gameplay of it's era. i found Mercenaries from an insert with Battlefront I think it was and from the cover art you could never expect it to be as nuanced and detailed as it turned out.
The soundtrack of this video game fueled my childhood and my affinity for shooter games but also till this day invokes massive amounts of nostalgia and eating chicken nuggets and pizza rolls with Gatorade in my room well hunting down the ace of diamonds on Kirin-do Island
Aquela música antes de começar uma missão da uma sensação de dever comprido
Great game, Great Soundtrack, Thanks for the upload
21:47 Do IT!
this ost is transcendent
A Remaster please. It was the best Game i played so much Times.
As a 14 year old I play this when I was 7 it was so good definitely recommend 10000/10
Jesus Christ. Like he does with most lucasarts movies, John Williams must've composed this, because it sounds so frickin *LEGENDARY*
It was actually Michael Giacchino… who composed the music from Rogue One! Which is also legendary
This game and soundtrack are both absolutely underrated. From a musical standpoint, it reminds me A LOT of John Williams. It was certainly inspired by his work, plus the oriental instruments... god, it's so epic. So well composed. And from a gameplay perspective, I remember being a kid and alternating between this and GTA: SA. I frankly don't know which one I liked the best. I possibly spent more time on this one, but I honestly don't know.
I also remember playing the second one and hating the hell out of it. I turned it off before I even got through the first mission, because it became a joke of itself. The first game is hella dark, serious, mysterious, compelling, epic. The second one is like HURR ATOMIC BOMBS. Too bad!
A masterpiece of all time
Love the Hidden Valley Bunker track. There are some motifs and rhythms in the latter section of the song that reminds me of Giacchino's theme for "Star Trek" (2009).
Unique game mechanics; haven't seen any game measure to it!
Redoing it RN it's still so much fun to play👍
2021 and I needed me some of this
MAfia Family Buesiness 21:47 i think wasthe best
Nostalgia hit me really hard now
Amazing childhood game we all had and it's still amazing
Michael Giacchino went hard on this one
this game had no business having such good music.
23:40
love this game
Best ps2 game. There’s no game that would make me so passionate about playing like this did

5 by 5...
i would buy a new console just to play a remake of this
20:53 - 21:42
Hidden Valley Bunker got stuck playing on emulator after a SK mission so I got to use it in a mission for the PLA. Pretty neat.

3:20 best part for me
Who else is here because this game might become reality soon? Lol
How so? Why are people scared of photoshopped boats, plastic AK's and non existent rockets..
lol @ North Korea ever becoming a real threat.
I missed this game I'm thinking about reordering it but I don't know
Edit I did get this game but I can't play it because my PlayStation 3 it's not the right PlayStation 3 I'm thinking about getting the PlayStation 2 now
Mercs POD is available on og Xbox, 360, One + X/S. Might save you some cash.
Performance is great on Xbox One however the glitches from 360 backwards compatabile era still remain and ruins some small elements.
We don't have Strangers Wrath on Xbox One though :'(
@@alexdenton1174 ok thinks for letting me know

Black PS2 has the same composer (Tilton and Giacchino).
So gud..
Thermal Event is amazing but I'm having trouble finding the solo ost on youtube
0:27, Best part
Feeling nostalgic after this and own an Xbox? If you own a Xbox 360, One or Series you can buy it and play it, it’s available in the store. The original one. Enjoy reconnecting with your inner child like I did. You’re welcome 😎

one of the most epic games ever made! The premise, the detail, the soundtrack, the hidden secrets, the awesome cheat characters!! Just totally get lost in it! Long live Mercs! 💜
anyone look for this music in 2021?
it never dies :) very well composed art. Unlike Electronic Arts lol studio killers

Ich würde direkt Zwei Lila Scheine für ein Remastered zahlen..ohne reden
look, the only game i know about korean war
With this music playing in the background Choi Song definitely did not stand a chance
This GAME WAS LIKE 10 HOURS long
my childhood > this game
It won't ever happen, but I'd do awful, awful things for Mercenaries 3 with the added destruction mechanics if Red Faction Guerrilla, the open world if RDR and the writing of the Outer Worlds.
19:12
Oh shit that sounds creepy When im listening this at 2 am
Is it just me, or does "For the Motherland" sound like "Gangster's Paradise"?
g💔😢
This was my shit. The soundtrack had no right being this good 😂
War economy simulator
Wait -- how is this LucasArts? What universe is it set it?
Pandemic Studios was bought out by LucasArts and then eventually disbanded by EA (if I remember correctly).
