Quik Drive Collated Attachment: Toolsday Easy Way to Roof?

  • Today we are taking a first look at the quik drive collated fastening attachment from Simpson Strong Tie. I picked this up to attach to the Makita XSF05 screwgun that we love for roofing, and am hoping it is the game-changer I expect it to be. Check out the video, then head over to Instagram and follow me at @rrbuildings where I will be using this tool on site to see what I think about it. Hopefully this will make roofing much easier
With all the metal roofing going on so many houses these days, I feel like this is a tool that could truly change how we roof. It could be so much more efficient than the old way of doing things. What are your thoughts? Good idea, or gimmick? Drop a comment below and lets discuss it!

Good for you!! I spent 45 years in the painting industry and let me tell you - anything that changes the ergonomics of the job to correct posture will help you enormously in the future. My knees are shot and my back always painful from so many years of straining the body. If you can make your work life easier, then spend whatever it takes. Even if there is no pay off financially to this tool, if it takes the strain off your back then money be damned, it is worth it!

I just looked at Simpson's website and the information for this extension unit leaves much to be desired. They don't list what screwdriver motors are compatible, rpm driven nor is there a way to locate the pre-punched holes if that's the method you go with. The rib attachment feature is what it looks like they want you to do more so than using the flats..
The extension isn't like a siding attachment for a roofing coil nailer, where the foot on the nailer has a locating pin.
After watching Simpson's video, it appears that they need to have someone show them how to adjust their own attachment, as the driven depth dimpled the metal roofing material used.
In your case, if you decide to continue using the BGP300, I'd say keep the belts and reload them yourself on downtime, especially since the fasteners cost twice of loose screws.
