If Mattel every remakes one of their Thomas movies as a cinematic film, I'd choose this one.
Cheeky Thomas is huge nostalgia to me, as I grew up with the models. I'm at an age where Shining Time Station's as old as me more or less and even got STS based books leftover from my childhood.
The scene when Thomas falls down and finds the ship HAS to be inspired by the incident when that tender engine on the furness railway fell into a sinkhole.
Down the mine was inspired by that but this is more realistic since Thomas cannot be pulled back up, he has to be lifted back up just like that failed attempt.
And the fact John whacked Thomas in the face and tired to blow him up was amazing! They did not step down in this movie
Thomas being blown up would've made everyone happy because everyone hated him in this movie. Hated him.

Can't blame you for ending it here. We wouldn't want to end with BWUHBAH, as I call it.
But yeah, there are too many good things to say about this movie. But one thing I'll say is that I commend this movie for introducing the Arlesdale Engines, previously RWS-exclusive characters, paving the way for the Small Railway Engines adaptations in Series 20.
John Hurt was also a great actor. I first saw him as Winston in the 1984 film adaptation of Orwell's 1984. May he rest in peace.
Truly a cinematic masterpiece
The only thing I could have wanted from this gem of a movie was the Scottish twins making everyone sing but the fact we even got them back was plenty good.

This is hands down the best cgi Thomas Movie I've ever seen
Many people say Sir Topham was out of character but I disagree.This movie was a upgrade to his character .In season 19 he was a joke but this fix his chatacter.
And he had every reason to be mad in his point of view
I hated the way he was treating thomas like crap in the film.

I do agree that SLOTLT is an amazing film, it does have good animation and has a good message that isn’t shoved down our throats and there was even references to both TV series and Railway Series e.g. The shot of Thomas arriving at Farquhar at the beginning is a reference to the TV series intro from S1-7.
The only two issues I have with the film is:
1. Henry’s subplot doesn’t go anywhere so it doesn’t have a payoff in my opinion
2. The fat controller being a bit of a dick to Thomas the third time (the first two times I don’t have a problem with because he was basically taking charge like he usually does as a call back to S1-5) but the third time is pretty bad, like I get that he thought Thomas was up-to no good but as we saw Thomas saved everyone from Dynamite 🧨
Those are my only two issues with the film other than that it’s a dam good movie and it was at the peak of the animation (not that the other films after SLOTLT had terrible animation, they just don’t compare to SLOTLT)
What was the message of SLOTLT
That was a great series and I think in all of the episodes, you did fantastic. And although the series is discontinued, we will continue to watch them all. Don’t stop putting amazing content on CZcams.

The show was still good even when the movies were not the best especially in 2016 and 2017 but this movie should be the series finale.

One of the things I would add to this movie, besides STH apologizing to Thomas for the dynamite thing is Thomas and Gordon resolving their quarrel at the beginning. Like, before the ending at the new branch line, you could have a scene where Thomas wakes up and remembers that he has to fetch Gordon’s coaches, only to be surprised when Gordon reveals HE got his coaches by himself. And then the two apologize to each other, Gordon for what he said to Thomas, and Thomas for the trick he pulled, and confirm that they’re still friends.
That is actually a great ending. Not bad for a rewrite.
So long, EGA! You had a good run!

I don't agree with The Unlucky Tug's statement he made in his recent SLOTLT review where he's like "but then Sailor John acts like a nice guy to Thomas to keep the audience guessing." To me, the first scene with Sailor John is enough to convince me that he's the villain, and so when he acts nice to Thomas later on, it's just like "Oh well now we just have to wait for the moment where Blue Train realizes who Sailor John really is"

I think we could essentially agree that Legend of the Lost Treasure is to this era of Thomas & Friends, what Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Lion King combined were to the Disney renaissance period of the early '90s, namely in terms of grand scope and on-point reflection of the base material.
This is quite the contrast from what I thought when Lost Treasure first came out; I thought it dragged on lacking plot points, though I thought even then that the orchestral soundtrack was something else, the villain was refreshing, and the use of visual colors was indeed varied compared to other specials in the franchise. Now after seeing the underlying aspects of what the special brought to the table, I appreciate it as being the pinnacle of what Thomas & Friends was attempting to strive for before things took a turbulent turn.

Hey man! I loved this video mainly because my opinions are almost identical to yours on this movie. Also I want to know if you think tugs will ever come back? As that’s a goal in my life I’d love to accomplish.
To be honest I really doubt it. It's a nice thought, but replicating the original tone and feel of the show today would be near-impossible to fund, let alone maintain a brand around a show which is a hybrid of a kids and adults show. CGI would be the only way, and I feel the charm would be utterly gone then, unless you could find a very clever way to make that work. So good luck to you and I don't want to discourage at all, but I'd recommend focusing on other ideas before doing something as difficult and challenging as that. Thanks for watching!
@@TheThomasCynic that’s the one issue todays day and age of gimmicky crap while tugs isn’t about that. And funds are also a big issue but then again I’m not getting into university any time soon and the thing is I don’t think there’s many Australian Tugs fans so I’d sadly have to leave my country to accomplish this but we’ll have to wait and see

@@formulafish1536 I remember watching it back in 2018 I have no idea how I found it or why I clicked on it, but OMFG am I so happy I did. And I remember going to my dads work party and showed it to one of the older people there and they said they remembered seeing it and said it’s actually very good and deserves several more season, but this was before I wanted to bring back tugs

@@mmx3backup606 I read something of his that made tear up over his own creation and just dry cried, which is the max I do over online fics. Only physical books or real things online make me teary, as far as reading.
I personally feel that sailor John is based off of Johnny Cuba from tugs same hat and all. One is a boat and the other is a human.
Lost Treasure is my favorite only because it all felt so cinematic. To this day, stuff like the opening and sunrise shots bring tears to my eyes. The fact that a Thomas the Tank Engine movie tried so hard to be theatrical quality even more than Magic Railroad and only get a DVD release in the US is just baffling. You Brits were lucky to get limited screenings of this thing.
I also love Thomas' character. In my opinion, this is his best arc in the entire show. The symbolism with his number one on his paintwork is shockingly brilliant and it makes me just root for Thomas and his growth even more. I've probably never felt for a main character this hard in the franchise before. It really shows how Andrew Brenner gave his all into this masterpiece.
I agree on the views of Sailor John. His voice acting is great and despite the fake nice guy shtick falling a little flat for me, it still really lands for me as a human protagonist. Dare I say it, this is the tone that could've made PT Boomer work in Magic Railroad.

I played this movie on Taylor Kennedy's playlist. It left me quite affected all inside though, because I'm Thomas sensitive*. It inspired a fanfic called Who Cares?, because of a comment someone once said about Thomas wanting to kill himself after the dynamite incident. Not to worry, nobody really dies in my fic. I can read a fic in which Thomas dies and just dry cry, but I can't create such. However, I do have a deathfic called Edward's End Of The Line in my anthology Sodor Tales. Both Sodor Tales and Who Cares? are on Fanfiction, along with all my other TTTE fics. I cried inside over EEOTT because Thomas is so sad. That story was inspired by a reply to one of my CZcams comments. *I respond more to him than the other characters, like when I read The Island's Swansong, my eyes popped when the urban explorer found Thomas because his description from the 1st episode of the show was in the fic. TIS was my first Thomas sensitive moment.

To me, this film is not as good as when I saw it.
It's a good movie, don't give me wrong. It was mind-blowing seeing the return of many as well as the appearance of the Small Railway Engines.
Not to mention Sailor John is a very cool villian (Though not as cool as Diesel 10 who is my opinion the best villian ever).
The songs are also very good.
However, there some things that sadly put me off the film....
For starters, the Fat Controller is a real jerk here. I know he's meant to be a father figure to the engines, but here I feel like they went too far with his character.
It really hurts just seeing him shouting at poor Thomas, especially the scene after the dynamite incident. What hurts even more is that Thomas doesn't shout back.
I mean Thomas has stood up for himself to other characters before (Such as Diesel 10 in Thomas and the Magic Railroad, Spencer in Hero of the Rails and, of course, Hector in Hector the Horrid), so why he doesn't stand up to his own controller?
Another thing that puts me off the film is Gordon. He was the one who caused the whole mess in the first place and he doesn't get found out and punished! I really don't like they messed up the relationship between Thomas and Gordon in the Brenner-Era.
In my opinion, what should have happened is that Thomas should have snapped back at the Fat Controller and run away from the Island of Sodor. The Fat Controller would then feel guilty for his actions and go to find his number one engine and apologise. After that, he then punishes Gordon by taking away his express and having him work at the Smelters.
Also, I think that they should have had Percy, Duck and Rosie share the main role with Thomas (By having Percy looking after Thomas' Branchline and taking a dislike to Ryan, Duck comforting Thomas and Rosie telling the Fat Controller off as well as having all three going with The Fat Controller to find Thomas and bring him home), as well as include the songs Why Should I Stay and I'm not a Useful Engine Anymore from Thomas & Friends: The Big and All Aboard Live Tours.
If that had happened in the actual film then it would have been in my Top 5.
However, that's my opinion, so if anyone likes SLOTLT, then I respect your opinion.
In my opinion, SLOTLT is nowhere near as good as TATMR, TGR, TGD, TAB and KOTR (My Top 5 Favourite Thomas Movies), however I will say that it's a lot better than... *Cough-Cough* BWBA...
