JENNIFER WARNES Right Time of the Night
Vložit
- čas přidán 20. 05. 2012
- The sublime vocalist and interpreter, Jennifer Warnes began her brilliant career years before this record came out, but it was her breakthrough hit in 1977. 35 years ago, it began climbing the charts in Australia, after a successful run in America. While only scraping into the Top 40 downunder, it was the song that brought her to my attention, and i have been an avid fan ever since. Her soundtrack songs, rarities on compilations and her all too rare solo albums have become treasured gems in my collection and in my heart. I wrote to Ms Warnes several years ago, and she responded with the utmost grace, warmth and humility - all i wanted and hoped for but never expected from such a huge star and talent. She is all class. A voice of such warmth, texture and depth.
I remember sitting in a car in 1977 with the prettiest girl I ever laid eyes on. Unfortunately, she had a boyfriend. We were both college kids and on the radio was this song.I always go back to that one moment when I hear this song. Thank you Ms Warren. Miss the 70's. Miss this girl too. 😊
Wow, memories.
I miss them all😅
I remember being in the backseat of my car in the late 70s with a real pretty girl who had a boyfriend , Me..
Great story 😊
Your not wrong i still think of the lad i let slip through my fingers in 1966 he went back to ireand asked me to go there sent me plane fare my dad wouldnt allow it im 74 have a family but have never forgot him x❤
The lady has 2 Grammy awards so if you don't think she is gifted, show us your Grammy. 🤔
2024 and I'm 59 and still listening to this wonderful song that brings in all the awesome memories from back in the day !
@barbgarrison6721, funny thing. I was on my way to work this morning when "Up Where We Belong" came on the radio. Suddenly, I thought, "Did Jennifer Warnes ever have any solo hits?" So I come on CZcams tonight to see if I can find any Jennifer Warnes songs. This is the 1st one I came across & clicked it. I REMEMBER THIS SONG!!! Guess Jennifer Warnes DID have her own songs & I've even heard them😂
there are heaps of solo Jennifer on my channel
Same here only I’m 62.
Love this song in 2024
I swear this woman has one of the best voices I've ever heard.
43 years later and i still get chills listening to this gem.
Me too..🤗😊
Jennifer Warnes is awesome.
Songs about the night are so romantic
I love her
no doubt
Just 6 years old riding around san diego...happy to sit in front passenger seat with my mother who loved this song. She has passed on but the song brings great memories. Love and miss you Mother..thank you for everything.
I lived in San Diego in 1977 and was in love with Betty...she looked like Jennifer Warnes!
@@user-ip5dm6jf8k Mira Mesa? Penasquitos, Poway area?😎
Unlike all “singers” today who are auto-tuned, this was the real thing. True talent. I remember when she performed this on Saturday Night Live in 77. Miss those days!
She was amazing on SNL. There's a great Midnight Special clip on CZcams as well. Far as all singers today being autotuned, I would like to call your attention to Miley Cyrus and Pink. Both as real as it gets.
41 years old and still beats the hell out of today's crapola.
Quarter moon walking through the Milky Way... best lyric ever!
Anne Murray mentions The Milky Way in her song Shadows.
Huh? Best ever?! Nothing introspective or enlightening about it.
I just posted this to my FB... and quoted the same line.
I was 4 years old when this song came out. It was really great then. I am 50 years old now and this song still sounds as good as it always has. This lady is really great. She looks just as beautiful and sweet and sexy as she sounds. She is really great.
Love this late 70s soft rock sound. The production on these recordings was just impeccable.
I love the 70's. I was born in 72 & just turned 50. The music was the right time of night. I love Beatles and bee gees and of course my Monkees, but yeah long live the 70's.
Played on Country stations too
This is country
What a cool song.
What a songstress.
So nice.
Love it!
That’s the work of Jim Ed Norman, one of the greatest record producers in Nashville at the time.
Great song in 1977, still a great song in 2021 👍

And 2023..👍
Yes, 2023 confirmed (31st May) 😊
She had a very "Ronstadt" feel to her voice. Stupendous.
Sure did!!!!
Yep sure did
Yes, she did! When this song came out I thought it was Linda Ronstadt! 😳🤫🤭
Greetings from Barbados, I totally agree.
Funny you should say that, because longtime Linda Ronstadt collaborator Kenny Edwards actually played guitar on this song.
God i miss the 1970's.. alot of my favorite music from this era.. and alot of innocence.. we all got our music from one source. AM radio and the top 40 on sundays with casey kazum. Used to love listening to his show and hear what spot your favorite song would be in ..
i agree. thankfully there's so much great retro music on youtube.
A very underrated singer. She deserves a lot more recognition for her performing talents. One of the best voices I ever heard!
Absolute!!!
She's like the great Linda Ronstadt!
Likewise. Me and my Girl when we met in '76. Only been married for 14 years, though
bobby7771117 true
She's the only singer who can come close
Heard this at the Vegas airport and man!!!! Talk about bring back memories!!!! Wish country music sounded as good as this did!!
Please bring back the 1970"s ! It's the right time for all the music!
Makes me miss 1977. This song was everywhere. Great voice, no filters needed. Like many artists need today.
Unlike singers today, she can sing.
She has a amazing timeless voice!Absolutely incredible
One of my most favorite songs of all time. In the top 5 for me.
Romance, nature and melody at its best.
Agreed
I LOVED this song in the 70s. I wore the vinyl out. Jennifer is CLASSIC!! She deserves way more recognition. ❤️
Hi Jeffery, fully agreed. Not sure if you are a subscriber to my channel, but i have a lot of Jennifer on my channel already and have 10 clips ready to upload in a week's time to celebrate 40 years since her Best Of Jennifer Warnes album was issued. I wore it out! Have bought to cd's of it over the years and worn them out too! I just adore her. cheers; Dave
I simply love the photos of her during her career...♥️🇬🇧♥️
thanks Michelle; cheers, Dave
One of the prettiest voices I've ever heard! Loved her!
Sometimes I sing along. But mostly, I just listen. One of the best songs, with the best voice. How can you not love it!!💜
wow, accidently found this song and just opened up a whole can of memories
Dean Qualls I hope that they were good ones.
Same here. I hate feeling melancholic.
Ik. Fantastic song ! Big big hit !!
If you like this hit, here's another one from the same year you'll probably recognize:
czcams.com/video/iUW_7W9JqEw/video.html
Yep
I fell in love with her when I first heard this song.
yep, it was my introduction to her. loved her for 37 years! :)
A great talent! A real star with no gimmicks! If she was on "The Voice" she'd put the judges to shame!
Richard Gerlach I second that.
Pretty too
Certainly would an unbeatable talent
Jennifer is an American treasure !!! An absolute original in every way.......this song never gets old.....a testament to great writing , awesome vocals and fantastic musicianship ! Love you Jennifer ! 🩷
Jennifer was one of the most gifted background session singers ever . She sang with Lenard Cohen and Joe Cocker among others. Was happy to see her make it on her own! She recorded some of that eras most beautiful love songs.
I was 14 and the lyrics and the voice were absolute wood!
Great song and what a beautiful voice.
4 pm, AM radio....mom cooking dinner, me doing my homework, good times.
dcsmooth My mom doing the dishes with the smell of summer blowing through the windows. Good times indeed.
@@nunyabiznes4864 stop it guys...
yes......don't forget listening to the top 100 countdown at the end of the year on WABC am radio...with "cousin brucie"
dcsmooth
Riding my bike to Mr Barger's store for a popsicle, listening to my red transistor radio, and climbing huge green trees. You just can't beat those AM radio stations when it comes to 70s music.
what you dont know how to cook? lol jk
Amazing voice.
Charming, Beautiful Woman. She is way underrated. She means every word she sings. Made this old Man much happier hearing this @ New Years 2021. The Real Deal is Ms. Warnes.
I am almost 51 years old and this song still reaches right to my heart. It still sounds as good as it did in 1977. It still reaches right to my heart. This lady sure has a beautiful and sweet and sexy voice. She was really beautiful and sweet and sexy inside and out. She was really great.
Had a big crush on her back in 78'. What a voice. We need to her more of songs like these in these times😔
there's loads more of hers on my channel. HUGE Jennifer fan. cheers Robert from Dave
The voice of an angel and the looks of that girl who sat across from you in school!! LOVELY.
I missed this song so much that I really feel like crying now it brings me back to those long-forgotten years!
My grandmas brother wrote this song... peter mccann
when are they going to wake up and start making great music again
jennifer was a great singer. What a great song thank you for sharing this gem
thank you for enjoying this and saying so. Much appreciated. Yes it is a gem. Here's my extended clip for it too czcams.com/video/nZnL2kdKR8E/video.html
One of my favorite songs. Also, one of my favorite voices of all time. Jennifer is a real talented lady
Happy birthday to the lovely singer Jennifer Warnes!!!!😂❤😊
Happy 76th Birthday Jennifer Jean Warnes!(Born March 3, 1947)😃🥳🎂🎉🎊🎈🎁🍾🥂🌷🌹💐🎀👍👏🙌
What a great vocalist, clear strong voice with a surprising range.
Fantastic song. Wonderful memories.
Awesome song!! What a melody it hits a nerve so positive so electric pleasant words WHAT QUALITY
I've always loved this song!
I recall the first time I heard this on KIIS in Los Angeles I thought to myself, "Wow, Linda Ronstadt has a new hit." I later found out it wasn't Linda, but Jennifer. It's been one of my favorite pop songs ever since. But I think it was her striking similarity to Linda that ultimately held Jennifer back from achieving true pop stardom, even if she did belong right up there with Linda. She's had a career that any singer would be proud of, however. Added to my own playlist of personal favorites.
+J Joe Townley I remember the first time I heard it was in a made for tv movie. The girl in the movie mentioned it. I was only 10 years-old at the time.
Yes, I did hear it on the radio a little later. Amazing what musical influences we had back in the day.
+stephen dwyer I do.
+J Joe Townley Plus, the two times she's hit #1 on the Hot 100 were both duets for major movies.
+Greg Palmer "Up Where We Belong" with Joe Cocker and "I've Had The Time of My Life" with Phil Medley, from "An Officer and a Gentleman" and "Dirty Dancing", respectively, right?
Bill Medley, but otherwise you're right.
This song always makes me wish, no special someone at this point in life.
This song was my dad in 1977. It just was on radio and in the background of his childhood events and experiences at 6 years old loving Star Wars and the Muppets and Fleetwood Mac and Beethoven.
I was 4 years old when this song came out. It still sounds as good as it always has. It never lost its touch
Wish we could bring back the finest music like this and life will be a whole lot better
I'm here because of the movie when Harry met Sally ;)
Though I was seven and a half and in second grade, when this was first released, like Feb 1977 ,I remember it full well. Very reminiscent of 1970s era, that mellow, soft rock quality. Thanks for posting, brings back fond memories of childhood and growing up as a kid, in the 1970s.
thank you Jamie, glad it brought back good memories for you Cheers.
MrJamieMurph4141969 me too me too
You got that right 🍀🍀🍀😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Amazing talent... amazing voice
Sounds like we r the same age remember hearing this on the radio
For those who might not know- a brand new 2cd set has just been released containing both remastered albums- 1976's JENNIFER WARNES and 1979's SHOT THROUGH THE HEART. Shot Through The Heart has already been on cd for awhile, but now you get both and how wonderful is it that the JENNIFER WARNES album is finally on cd!?! I just got mine off ebay for $12.99 and I've been wearing it out like crazy enjoying all those great songs- Love Hurts, Round And Round, Right Time Of The Night, I'm Dreaming, Daddy Don't Go, etc. Brings back a ton of memories from 1976 when I was 14 years old and watched American Bandstand religiously every Saturday and caught her on there singing the 2 singles off this album. Oh, the memories of being young and discovering new music.....
I wish I was Jennifer. I love her voice and all her songs. God made her special. She's a beautiful lady.
Beautiful, always reminds me of Anne Murray, Rita Coolidge, Linda Ronstadt songs. Those were the years, and the ladies all over the air waves!!!
She reminds me of one of my teachers back in 78
Beautiful love song from 1977,Jennifer Warnes had a lovely voice, ideal for this kind of song,
I like to play this late at night when I’m on my own and dreaming about holding the beautiful Jennifer in my arms, those were the days.
Beautiful song Jennifer.xxxxxxxxxx
I was taking a sign language for the deaf class in the summer of 1982, and I was assigned to learn to sign this song. Got an "A" on that assignment!
Scrolling and read this, Awesome!
I remember being a little boy going to the drive and hearing this waiting for the movie to start. That's one thing no one can take is our memories
1977 I was working at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville TN - and one of my co-workers was a budding songwriter ( like nearly everyone in Nashville back then!) and I remember him saying, “Quarter Moon walking through the Milky Way. …. Damn! I wish I had written that!” Great song!
I almost wrecked my car when I heard this come on Sirius radio! I have no idea how I forgot about this song? I won't forget it now, I have played this about 59 times now. Thanks for the upload! If I could only beam myself back to this era and not just live it again but, just stay there and never have to leave.
Hi Todd, hope you don't wreck your car or yourself with the music, but you're welcome with the upload. Here is an extended clip i made of the song you might enjoy too. czcams.com/video/nZnL2kdKR8E/video.html
Thanks daveinprogress!
I go down that nostalgia lane, every lucky moment I hear this song on the radio, sends a reflection of a simplified time, that was golden in every sense of the word, Jennifer Warnes, my girlfriends loved this song, thank you for all those summer warm nights filled with your lovely voice!
jennifer was a great singer. What a great song thank you for sharing this gem
Wow what an amazing voice truly platinum gold. Love it.
incredible voice with so much power
Yes, BEN Super incredible. They, are comparing Her to Ronstadt. She's miles better and above..Don't like comparisons. People, today are Competition minded. I ,was recording and playing alot in the 70's . This was amazing. As, was Her duo's w/ Cocker and Medley.
Great song by Jennifer Warnes. Thank you and God bless you Jennifer for the great music 🎶
A beautiful tune sung by Jennifer Warnes & written by Peter McCann ("Do You Wanna Make Love"). A gem from 1977 - a wonderful year in popular music!
Bravo, Jennifer Warnes & Peter McCann!
Flip side of Do you Wanna Make Love is his version or Right Time of the Night.Good stuff!
+ChihuahuaboyDH
Looks like composer Peter McCann had love-making on his mind again, this time with Jennifer Warnes.
This was out in the best year of my life. The year that I, met and married, my wonderful husband, John. Still enjoying our life together 41 years later.
77 was a Great Year indeed for music!I was in High School at the time! Can we bring back the 70s!Life was so much Peaceful and Simpler back then!
What a unappreciated talent
So true..
I hate to say it, but she wasn't the absolute most beautiful girl during that time, but she could sing circles around them on this song. I can never get enough of her singing this song.
Just watching one of my favorite movies “When Harry met Sally”, and this song was playing in the background. Had to listen to the song again. ❤️
Picked up on it too....nice choice of song for that scene...nice scene too
A superb song and boy can she sing!!❤
Lingers on within the soul long after this haunting song is over, one of the very best soft rock songs from the nineteen seventies.
Incredible voice and a great song. Thank you!
you're welcome, Clark. cheers; Dave
This song and "Because The Night" were always played back-to-back on the radio station I frequented, back when this was Top-40. Awesome song!

I've always loved this song!
wow, accidently found this song and just opened up a whole can of memories
Jennifer made magic with her beauty and song, the best of days they were.
entirely agree, Ronnie . Beautiful singer. Timeless.
Very beautiful country- pop song.... i remember one sweet summer of 1977 i was only 13 year with my radio open all the day and i heard all of those excellent song....so sad today theres no good music like yesterday.I believe 70s and 80s it was the best years our lives.
I was 12 In 77...but I have the exact same memories
yes, I was 12 too,
it was heaven on earth back then
I was 13 as well, in Asheboro, NC listening on an am transistor radio my favorite baby sitter gave me for my birthday, and I wore it out with the best music ever written and sang, except maybe the 80's, we were very fortunate to have lived and experienced those days, they were the best! Can't believe I'm 55 now , but still listening on CZcams, yeehaaa😍
Love this song and Jennifer's beautiful voice!
I agree with you there. She looks just as beautiful as she sounds. She is really great
This song evokes very fond high school memories for me
me too Len. A particular time and place too. This song has just been such a magnet for so many amazing comments and reflections. It's why i love posting clips. Thanks for stopping by and enjoying it. Cheers, Dave
daveinprogress3 thanks for posting it. I enjoyed hearing the song again
@@lendrury2771 you're welcome Len - there's other Jennifer tracks on my channel including this extended mix a fellow youtuber created and I did a clip for. czcams.com/video/nZnL2kdKR8E/video.html
Always, always loved this!!!!! She had such a marvelous voice and we must consider ourselves more than blessed for having her. She's wonderful!
well said Laurence. Perfect.
Beautiful song, by a woman with a gorgeous, sensuous voice. Her natural vibrato really grabs me. What a voice!
Thank you Jennifer for your beautiful songs. Truly unique and beautiful voice.
This song will always be a classic with me!!!
This is only one example of Jennifer's style. The other piece I especially like is I Know a Heartache When I See One. Until my spouse was hospitalized in 1986 we never needed a television. Music of all type was what we listened to on vinyl and cassette. The young people with their tinny discs cannot appreciate how great vinyl is. My thanks to the person who is publishing this site. ROCK ON
This song came out 4 weeks before my wedding at was sang at my wedding love it to this. day
I love this song she's very talented
BRILLIANT beyond brilliant
Jennifer did a lot of Nashville and L.A. background vocals on songs of the very early 70's. The she hit the big time in 1977 with this song then onto a movie song duet partner with Cocker and Medley. Great lalent.
I remember being 10 years old sitting at the drive in theater with my sisters on either side of me and this playing on the little speaker you hook on the side of the window inside the car. I Don't remember thinking I was living in a beautiful time but I was. My parents taking care of me, no bills, no aggravation should be the best time in a person's life? For me it was we wasn't rich or had a lot of material things but we were happy
great reflections, Douglas, thank you for sharing them. cheers; Dave
i remember this song clearly though fuzzy as if hearing it on a background speaker far away. I was in high school vacationing in Mexico like I did every summer back then. I was in Michoacan which is central Mexico and late at night you could hear American AM radio stations as far away as Texas. One night as I wuz flipping through the dials I came across the song beaming all the way from some AM station in Oklahoma. Really. Everytime I hear this song will make me think of that night. Thanks for the memories!
Oh...does this AMAZING SONG bring back so many wonderful memories for me!! I just happened to stumble across this video. Such an AMAZING CLASSIC SONG!!!
One of the finest vocalists of her generation. She sang on 3 songs that went on to be Academy Award winners for Best Song (Norma Rae, Officer and a Gentleman, Dirty Dancing.) A tremendous talent.
