Canon R50 Lens Tests - low light and challenging conditions
• CANON R50 | Lens and V...
I've been wanting to challenge my skills with the new Canon R50 and try out these lenses for this great camera.
All I can say is I'm impressed with the results and these lenses performed admirably well in low light and challenging situations.
It has been fun making this video for you - we're all at different stages of our learning journey and if we share - we all learn. Thank you :) www.buymeacoffee.com/cre8r61

Cheers and thanks for watching. It’s great to hear where my viewers come from
This is fantastic Darren, you are doing this CZcams thing. I’m so pumped for you, you have put in the hard work and it’s paying off.
Cheers @markweimels - Loving it! How's it going?
Thank you for sharing I have ny R50 last week and I didn't even know if I could do all that with it
There’s so many options to explore. Thanks for watching

Great to know. Thanks. What kind of videos are you going to make on your channel?
@@cre8r61 I’m more into nature photography to be honest !
Just got the nifty 50 and wide angle 16m so would love to see you do a video about those lenses
@@Norwichgirl I now have the RF 50mm and the 16mm. These are great lenses for the R50 kit
This is great! Thanks so much..
I had thought the Timelapse was made by lots of different videos 😅
Am new to photography.. and a burning question I have is what if the battery runs out?! 😓
But I guess.. you would need to carry a spare.. and just change ASAP in between the lapses 🤔
Thanks - I’m glad you liked this. You can also make a time lapse with many photos too (link below). If the battery runs out the time lapse is done and the file may not be saved correctly.
Here the video using many images for time lapse video czcams.com/video/V7znL01_H9A/video.htmlsi=Cx4NDmfP2YB65Hmd
@@cre8r61 thank you for sharing this! ☺️
I am getting confused whether it is recording or not how to make sure it is recording the timelapse
It can be a little confusing. In Movie mode set time-lapse in the menu - Camera Icon (RED Menu) > Tab 4 > Item 1 Time-lapse movie and choose the scene type best for your needs. Press the Shutter button to test and set exposure > then press the Movie Button and press the Shutter Button. The instructions on screen guide you through when to push the buttons. Thanks for watching my channel and hope this information helps. Cheers
I currently use and Nikon D800 for Timelapse but I do not like the shutter noise and I do get some flickering with changing light. Is the R50 completely silent for Timelapse? Can it transition from from day to night to get sunset and stars?
THANKS for watching. The shutter does click and you can set the exposure of the first frame that is applied to all frames. Timelapse is a feature of this basic camera but I think a camera that could accept an intervelometer might be better or try this hack I use on my G7X MKII (link below). The camera stitches all images together into a movie file so there are no raw images or an image sequence you can take into Lightroom or Photoshop LINK HERE czcams.com/video/V7znL01_H9A/video.htmlsi=Ya1SqHLw4q0c3ios
Do you recommend buying a lens for night photos/videos or is it fine on its own?
A good question indeed. A faster lens will produce a lighter image without pushing up the ISO. I’m testing some lenses from Sirui and TTartisans currently. You can use the kit lens for light trails and Astro. Push your skills with the kit you have and then buy the kit you need to get the result you want. Thanks for asking and watching. I’ve found this to be a good lens czcams.com/video/L38Y9Z9HQUk/video.htmlsi=lVVX77c-CV-4lZYU
Looking at buying this. Does it have a timelapse video mode?
Yes this is what the video highlights
at 03:31 your interval can go up to 30 secs. Mine can only go up to 4 secs. Just wondered what your settings were to enable 30 secs.
Thanks for watching. Go to the RED MENU > PAGE 4 > Item 3 (Time-lapse) > Select Interval/shots and increase the value here. My camera is set to NTSC so not sure if this works when set to PAL. Hope this information helps 😀
I got the Canon R50 but mine doesnt have the time-lapse movie tab in the settings. Am i doing something wrong or is there a way to download or unlock those settings any other way?
You will need to be in *Movie auto exposure, Movie manual exposure or Movie auto exposure CP.* Time lapse is unavailable in Movie for close-up demos, Movie IS mode or HDR Movie. Hope this helps. Thanks for dropping by
@@cre8r61 Yes this works thank you so much :)
@@tiezieboy7877 whoo hoo - I learned something too!
For a time lapse does it just turn photos into a movie or will it save the photos separately as well? Also, what is the record time with this camera? Did you have to change out the battery after a certain amount of time?
The R50 turns this into a video so there are no individual images. The record time is determined by the number of frames in the settings (intervals between shots). Battery life is sufficient for this camera and timelapse but if you want the flexibility of individual shots and then stitching them to a movie a camera with an intervelometer capability might suit better. I found I could achieve something similar with the Canon G7x mkii here and have used this technique a few times with a light festival in Sydney called VIVID (look for it on the channel) Another camera that’s a good buy 2nd hand is the Sony zv1 that has a little more flexibility for shooting timelapse. @@cre8r61 Thank you for all your help, I appreciate it
Excellent video. Is there a way to make a Timelapse longer than 3200 images on the R50?
An interesting question for sure and one I'd have to look into a little further. I have been thinking of using the R50 and really controlling this camera for time lapse video like I had in this one I made with the G7X MKii below. I'd have to find a way to hold the shutter button czcams.com/video/V7znL01_H9A/video.html
@@cre8r61 if you figure out a workaround, please let me know. Thank you for your response. You’ve earned a subscriber. Keep up the good work.
I can get 3600 images for a Timelapse but no more. The workaround I use for the GZX MKii doesn’t work on the R50. If there was an intervelometer app you could probably do it and stitch the images into a movie in FCPX or Photoshop which is easy to do
Just wanted to update, I took your advice and now a $10 app has completely solved my problem. You are the man. Thanks again!
@@1ProudAmericanwhat app???
AT 4:11 I CAN'T GET PAST this part. As soon as I say OK to auto expose 1st shot then I press the shutter but it ONLY TAKES ONE SHOT and DOESN'T start recording the time lapse!!!!! What Am I doing wrong? ANYBODY KNOW?????
Thanks for watching. Take your TEST shot with the shutter button and then press the MOVIE button to start the timelapse (see 4:14). This has tripped me up in the past too. Hope this information helps taking those great timelapse movies
@@cre8r61 Yes but I've made the shutter button the movie record button but it just keeps shooting another photo. Works differently on my m50
How much is the battery lasting?
300 (EVF) to 450 shots or thereabouts. I tend to turn my R50 off and on rather than leaving it on all the time
May I save single shots?
I'm not sure what you're asking here? The timelapse function does not save individual photos to make into a timelapse movie - I hope this helps?
Thanks for watching
@@cre8r61 Yes It Is perfectly what I need, I am used in making TimeLapse videos with PC in post production 👍🏻😊
The videos are FHD and not 4k, that's a bummer.
Yeah - it's a bit of a let down but remember this is an entry level camera. I have the Canon G7X mk ii and you can really make this little camera achieve some amazing time lapse sequences with a bongo tie and a few tweaks of the settings - you can achieve a resolution of 5120 x 2880px czcams.com/video/V7znL01_H9A/video.htmlsi=piaK8tLufXjgGYqW
Midrange mobile shoot better 4K videos than Canon R50
Thanks for watching - interesting observation. Good luck with your CZcams journey
