- Back at Sand Patch in October 1992. Part 1 explores the East slope of the grade, beginning with a train that has just left Cumberland and is exiting the narrows. The narrows is a gap in the mountains created by Wills Creek. We move to Fairhope Rd crossing where we see a hi-railer come off of track #2. A helper set stops there to talk with the MOW people. October was a great time to visit there due to the fall colors. We also return to visit CP Maxwell where I had as second camera on a tripod which luckily did not get knocked over by a passing maintainer truck. Other areas visited as well.
Really dig the random assortment of paint schemes that CSX had at this time period. You could see B&O blue, Chessie, YN1 CSX, Stealth CSX, and the multiple variations of the early scheme applied during the 80s as well as Seaboard and L&N. Very cool time to be railfanning. Wish it still was that way. Not so much variety now.
I’m surprised no dash 8s yet 5:50
