You could so get your colour of dye! The brand, Rit Dye, has a mixing chart that tells you the proper proportions of their colours to achieve the colour you want. It's so worth looking into! Oh, can't wait for that new pattern. Looks like a dream skirt 😍Also, that winter jacket is going to be so unique!

I love seersucker! I used to make pretty much all my clothing but don't have a lot of oomph anymore. Tonight was the first time I saw your vlogs and was impressed by something you didn't even talk about but I could see in the background that the clothing you make is modest and with sleeves, or you have a top on underneath the dress you were wearing. I don't understand why woman don't want to keep anything to the imagination, they want to flont all their body bits. The patchwork fabric you were trying to decide about, I saw one that I would have never even looked at the brown or green, it was reds/pinks. I only got a quick glance but red and pink are my favorite colors. Anyhow I would have for sure bought that one. It is amazing how we all have our own color preferences.

I made that vintage Style pattern many years ago. I had to make a number of adjustments to the front and back bodice and I also put 6 little loops into the back seams so I could lace up the back to cinch in the waist line. This dress was a lot of work but was worth it! It was my favorite floral dress of all time. I think the biscuit broderie fabric would look pretty in the dress with the ruffles over the sleeves.

You could make a puffer jacket with a zip, and just add a zip cover? Then the zip wouldn’t show and you could still add some cute ties! I recently did something similar when making a waterproof backpack for my boyfriend, and it was super easy to just add two more rectangles of fabric over the zip so it would be tucked away 😊

Hi Janelle. The lace idea is a good one. You may find it difficult if the lace is polyester. I recently tried my hand at dying cottons with brown onion skins and avocado pits. The brown onion skins gave a nice shade you may like. I also tried dying a piece of lace, it didn't take on the dye well at all. I'll send you a pm.

@@RoseryApparelI recently tried to dye a polyester lace and it was a disaster. I found the dye blend recipes on the Rit website to be really accurate, but it's so hard to get vivid colours, even with appropriate dyes. My top tip is to ensure the water is HOT, like as hot as the lace can safely handle.

    Nice textiles & style plans!
    Feedback:
I love the squared eyelet! I don’t love the two piece w crop tops tho. Even with the figure for it~ my experience is the crop top is not comfortable bc they rise up weirdly when you lift arms… also just kind of too skimpy. I think the eyelet would look great as a whole sundress!
And I hate to see the bedspread skirt go to waste, maybe you could combine the eyelet with the sheer bed skirt for something really romantic!💝
Otherwise I am looking forward to the puffer jacket since it’s quite unique & it has always intimidated me to make a quality looking coat of any sort!
I am also wondering if you could do both a front zipper on the puffer and add ribbons decoratively? Maybe an industrial type large exposed zipper would be an interesting contrast to the delicate fabric?
I’m not convinced dye will take well on synthetic lace… not the way you want it as a super concentrated over dyed look… but it would dye great on a cotton lace textile! It looks like they used a super concentrated dye mix with minimal rinse. (the garment would have to be laundered solo & maybe hung up in a garment bag to not do dye transfer without the proper setting chemicals (vinegar is the only home product I know of to use to set dye).
Just a few ideas while I’m sitting here being a keyboard busy body for now & watching you do all the hard work! lol 🤭😉

Yay a new pattern! With the puffer jacket-- what if you did a zip, but made a placket to cover it that ties up? Best of both worlds, and actually probably a little bit of extra warmth from two layers. (I live in Pennsylvania in the USA, and it gets deadly cold here, especially in January/February.) If the jacket goes well, perhaps that could be a future pattern?

I'd love to see your new skirt pattern with a proper waistband rather than an elastic one, not sure what you have planned but there are so many elastic waistband skirts out there and I hate how they look on me so I'd love to see yours with a fitted waistband! Also I think you've already finished your puffer jacket, but just in case it's still ongoing, you could always add a zip and have faux ties on top to cover it up? Also I think the dress Kate is wearing in your inspo pic is from Hill House if you want more angles of it for inspo. :)

  • @evepaludan7713

It's really hard to dye synthetic lace. The color may not absorb properly into a polyester or nylon. If you have a cotton lace, that would be so pretty if you used tea to dye the lace. I like the idea of a tiered lace dress with pockets. I want to make myself a bathrobe (I think you may call them dressing gowns) out of fleece fabric or blankets. With patch pockets instead of inseam pockets. If you use the nylon bedspread to make the puffer jacket, you may need to put a layer of batting (wadding?) between the bedspread and the lining because you want some insulation for that Tasmanian winter you described. Always do a test iron on a small piece of fabric with a press cloth because nylon can melt. I really love all of your videos and projects. Seeing a scraps project from you is one of my favorite types of videos. I have a large container of scraps and I like scrunchies and scarves and tote bags, etc. Little accessories made from what we sewists save up and need to use up! Thanks for sharing the lovely dress and skirts plans.

Rit dyes make clothing dyes for polyester and mix fabrics spotlight can carry them. I like the idea of the white broderie annalise you can make a long skirt and a matching top with either back buttons or ties in the style of the pinafore dress that way you can see the scalloped edge on the bottom of the top and on the sleeve bands. You can also put tops underneath the top to make it warmer for winter or autumn or say a puff sleeve top or short sleeve top for spring and summer.

For the jacket I wonder if you could do a zip anyway but have a section that hangs over the zipper that you can tie up with the bows so you have the look and the functionality? (Like some jackets have both zipper and a button section over the zipper) If it wasn’t super cold just don’t zip it up and just tie it but when you need the extra warmth you have the zipper in there just in case?
