Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
The beast still shouts for what it’s yearning
He stokes the fire, desire burning
The never-ending quenchless craving
The unforgiving misbehaving
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
So paint your eyes as black as sorrow
Hide yourself behind tomorrow
The nightmares search for infiltration
In domination, captivation
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
Return again to where it’s darkest
Dragging home this heathen harvest
And all the children subjugated
Manipulated, propagated
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
If darkness had a son
Here I am
If darkness had a son
Here I am
If darkness had a son
Here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be

Motorhead for more that 30 years did what mtllc have done since the early 90s. I love metal music and it is frustrating meeting people who think mtllc is more important than metal music. Did you know James and Lars considered Iron Maiden rivals? WOW! Just like Kiss did. There are and were so many superb bands out there... and you dont take a look at them. Obliveon, Atheist, Equinox, Sadus, Gorement! Music not money.

Agreed.
This is by far the best song on this album. 37 years a fan now see them multiple times and it’s always phenomenal. Keep shreddin brothas!
If darkness had a son , he'd feckin love this tune 💣
You can tell this song is super personal to James. That "hide yourself behind tomorrow" line is telltale for anyone that's ever dealt with addiction.
This is about procrastination of getting clean. Ah just another hit. Tomorrow I’ll get clean. I promise. And the cycle goes around again. In the meanwhile, let’s have another beer.
Abuse, Depression, Suicide. A lot the older songs James wrote too. Kinda funny how Metallica won me over with just the music side of it when I was younger (I'm a guitar player), I understood the lyrics, but I just didn't actually "feel" them. Now in my early 30s I've been to a psych ward, rehab, abused a handful of substances, ODd, made mistakes, life experience, etc and going back to Metallica now I can empathize much more with the hell James lived through, and I'm worried about his mental state, as he's going through a divorce and shit. He opened up to a crowd about his depression not too long ago. Hope he's ok and knows he's made a positive impact in a lot of people's lives.
@@MrMOGHammer 🍺🍺🍺cheers til tomorrow...then I'm done!🤘
@@L3ONARDO07 Sounds like you’re like me. Metallica literally evolved in sync with my life. Right before this album was announced, I started doing serious work toward processing my childhood. Before St. Anger came out, I was in the throes of my own anger issues. Before Death Magnetic, I was very preoccupied with death. It’s pretty fucking crazy.
Metallica plagiando a Metallica, una vez más 😂
I feel privileged to be able to say I lived in the age of Metallica
Well said Amigo.........
Amen brother
Me too!!!!
Imagine being able to say you lived and was able to appreciate their greatness during their peak, (I'm not one of them)
Like before 86?
First heard Metallica in '86. I was 12. Now approaching 50, there has only been one constant in this crazy, messed up world. Tallica for life!
🤘💥🤘
I would agree had they made this album after Garage Inc., for the weak stuff in between haven't been a constant to me in between. With that said, great they are back in business.
I’m 48 , first got into Metallica in ‘86 also 🤘🤘
SO u must be 49 too that's when I first heard them, everyone was skateboarding and shit
Man seeing them in the 80s would have been insane
This whole album is amazing. James voice is better than ever. Whoever produced this did an excellent job with the sound
I think it's the same guy, Greg Fidelman; he's still annoying me. The sound is the best since ReLoad, but while no longer clipping, it's still brickwalled. I feel like Lux Aeterna is the only song with a bit of room for the reverb, which that song seems to have a lot of. I got back to Lightning or Muppets or Load to hear the breathing room.
Over produced in my opinion
At least he is isn’t doing the squealing in this song.
Thanks to Bob Rock’s influence, I think since “The Black Album,” he’s tried too hard and got pretty cheesy.
He’s much better when he just sings as himself and doesn’t try to add all of the “artifacts” in like squeals, et cetera.
@@staygold902 everything they’ve done has been over-produced since “the black album.”
They, clearly, were more concerned with radio play and profits.
Most of the other “big four” bands have stayed fairly true to themselves.
But, then again, maybe James and Lars are staying true to themselves. Maybe their political awareness and desire for complexity was just a phase. Maybe they changed and no longer care about the state of the nation, the state of the people, the death of democracy, the ravages of war.
Maybe now, they just want to write music that is simple to play and people can shake their booties to it.
However, I will give them respect for this song. It’s got a dark feel.
I’ve got to give some respect. Metallica had a little an influence on me when I started writing thrash metal and playing in bands.
Although, admittedly, I was MORE (musically) influenced Hexanhaus, Overkill and Death Angel.
Jame’s vocal style definitely (originally) influenced my style.
I just wish they would care about social issues, again. They have the power to influence people, wake them the f… up.
But, I guess, once some people become wealthy, they become detached from the struggles of people who are less affluent. I guess they no longer care about service members who get used like pawns in illegal wars.
I cared, in my teens. I joined (for financial reasons). I served in an illegal invasion. So, my level of care about corruption only increased with age.
I just wish Jame’s still cared about service members, and other who struggle.
He used to care about freedom and had a dislike for corruption. I wish he still would.
I can't stand the kick...it sound awful and I am amazed these takes are the golden ones by Lars...holy sh*t.
But agree with other it sound brickwalled and just flat boring. Was expecting more..
This marks the first album my dad will ever miss.. he was the only person I knew that loved Metallica more than I do, he would've lost his mind over this new release, wish I could be listening to this with the ol' man, this kicks ass
❤
So sorry for your loss… 🤘🏼🫶🏻
Super sad. Sorry to hear you lost your old man
You take this song to him and play it for him good luck
Stay strong my friend ❤
No contest for me, its the best song off this album so far. Getting some Load/Reload vibes off James' vocals, very dark, earns its name.
very reload vibes
I agree totally! The vocals, 4/4 drumming, the structure and even the ink blotches on the music video are like the CD singles had on their art!
Did remind me of load and reload
Ur kidding aren’t ya? Nothing like load/reload. Those were more hardrock bluesy songs. James had the softer vocals on them too. This is way more metal. His voice is more shot now too
There's been a lot of Load/Reload influences on the songs and I'm honestly all for it. They're some of my favorite records.
This is one of the most bad ass openings to any Metallica song! Very reminiscent of And Justice For All... and Eyes of the Beholder/Shortest Straw/Blackened with a touch of Wherever I May Roam. Still it kicks major ass and never fails to fire me up!
Eyes of the beholder was first thing that came to mind..Like it
Thank You Metallica For All. Thank You Lars, Thank You Kirk, Thank You Robert, James Thank you, God bless You All. Your music makes me want to get up for work.
This track really hit the spot.
I've never been this excited for an upcoming Metallica album within the 21st century.
I'm hyped up after this song big time. I've never been this hyped after a new Metallica song. I'm drooling in anticipation of April 14th!
This song has some solid chops. I love that after 40 years Metallica can observe simplicity in music and show that it doesn’t always have to be a shredder to be a good song! Hard hitting, meaningful music here man! Love it!

Interesting that they're being influenced by their less popular songs, a bit like the singing style of Dream No More was influenced by the Load-era
Favorite song of the 3 so far. Great riff, chugging heavy guitar throughout, really comes off as just classic Heavy Metal so to say. Makes you want to bang your head and throw your fist in the air.
My fav out of the first 3 also. Great intro and guitar riffs.
Anyone who reviews this song and says it's trash needs to get their head examined. For a band pushing 60, they really rock!!
It’s definitely the most classically Metallica song out of the 3.

same here, Since RTL when I was 11 years old... but justice is my all time favourite. This track is killer, looking forward to the new release.
Most negatives comments come from unhappy people who don't have a life, they just want a reaction, I block that all out and just crank the volume louder. I'm 51 now, and it's crazy how I can still see me and my buddies in the mosh pit making our way to front row. That was during the And justice for all tour. We made it to the first row and it was the coolest thing to experience. Everyone should ride the lightning and not everyone's ass about nothing.
@@viperbites7274 Negative comments come from people who don't like the new songs, there is nothing wrong with that, they are allowed to express any emotion or opinion they have about the songs.
Music is completely subjective, you can't force yourself to like something if you don't. I personally like all the new songs, but I didn't like DM or HTSD. In my opinion, people can be as negative as they like, it never bothers me, it doesn't change my enjoyment of the music I like.

Metallica has yet to ever let me down.. every album is impressive and the attention to detail is spot on.
Metallica is one of the few bands that can chug in standard tuning and still sound heavy
I argue that it's the thing that got them to where they are now
behold the right hand of god james hetfield
Some songs are even in higher key like F# (2nd fret), A (A open string) and B (A string 2nd fret) but they are still heavy as fuck. It's all about how they play it, the arrangements, the instrumentation and the progression...
Metallica still defines metal for me, there are many better bands but I still use Metallica as standard.
@@helluzionentertainment9429 Screaming Suicide is in F# crazy
This is not standard tuning at all.
This sounds so good! The comments about James’ voice are on point! He’s on fire!!!
And we can actually hear the bass! MIRACLES!!!!
Actually hear the bass?? You should gat some new headphones, it's audible in almost every song

@@brankopavic2896 I’m being silly. Why so serious
I'm 15 and I listen to Metallica ALL THE TIME, I'm even learning some songs on guitar, only the best, the Tallica spirit will live on forever, even in gen z
Los haters aún resentidos con Metallica por lo de Napster, mientras yo me disfruto este tema que es uno de mis favoritos. Este disco es grande y uno de los mejores de su discografia por encima de lo que quieran decir... ¡Impresionante MetallicA! 💙🎶🤟🏼💀🎸
Singer James Hetfield deserves admiration for writing a song exposing his struggle with addiction, as a human. We all have flaws, brave people admit them, talk about them and overcome them.
Lots of musicians do this…
Every song I've ever lyrically wrote with the exception of maybe 3 are ALL about my addiction issues etc.. lots of my favorite bands also write that way
He's written several songs about it
Sweet Amber!
The whole album is incredibly honest and well-written from a lyrical point of view. Musically, it's a masterpiece. HUGE respect for James, he is very brave in the way he exposes his inner turmoil to the World the way he does.
This song has a different meaning now.. it being released on the day my dad passed and he was a huge metallica fan.
Sorry for your loss
Honest condolences
sorry for your loss man
RIP take care
@spookybabe-nz9xo
Even your dad would know this song is shit!
It is fucking terrible.
Metallica back for real. My favorite album since Load.
Metallica fans who don’t like this can kick rocks.
Couldn't have said that shit better
I'm an 14 year old girl from Angola and am so excite for this next album... Metallica Forever 🤘
Yeah🔥
I'm 17 and listen to Metallica since I was about 10 y.o., it was really a love at first sight and now l still admire them

Best song of the album for me, I don't know if I'm the only one, but it makes me miss them and reminds me of seeing them live most.
I feel the same and i agree.
My favorite song on this whole album. Its so good. I bet if they made this album 37 years ago they would get more love for this album.
James' voice is amazing! 🔥
Lol
Yes Thanks to Autotune
@@enomusic_ lol. He does not use auto tune. He sounds just like this live.
@@enomusic_ jealous?
@@enomusic_ what the fuck. You're the first person on this planet to accuse a him of something like that. He's been singing probably long before you were born, and autotune wasn't really a thing until mid 90's.
i went to metallica concert in 1997. back then... they were considered old. but still producing in 2024. wow, very cool indeed
It just goes to show that you can use the most basic chords/drums and still create a banger song that will stand the test of time! This song is slowly becoming my new favorite Metallica song!
METALLICA FOR EVER
I think I found my favorite song of this album...
James had been working on this lyric idea since St. Anger! It was called Temptation back then. This is killer!
yup and Burstain said after listening to demo that they have to delete that XD
Yeah, I remember from Some Kind of Monster, you called it!!!
First thing I thought of too.
Laid the foundation for this song when he was on a hunting trip in Russia I believe
Looks Like James he finally bring this song but of course with different lyrics
Another banger, guys. Just wish my dad was still around to hear the new album.
He'll be with you on first listen, you can count on that.
Oh he hears it! Metallica plays loud enough for him to hear wherever he is!
He hears it brother. Crank that shit and blast it to the heavens
Good Night. A amazing song. Metallica is a monster of Rock
It should be illegal for a song to kick this much ass
It’s so awesome that Metallica is still out there making music, can’t wait for the album❤❤❤❤
Unfortunately the music is bad
Love your PP and your music Taste in General :D
Me either
@@cardinalcopia2762 thank you, fellow soldier! :)
@@VCoverAI not bad song but awesome song of Metallica. 🤘🏻🔥
the drum fill at 5:27 is the Ulrich we all love! Long Live METALLICA!!
It's nice to see Lars getting props, I've talked a lot of crap about him over the years because he got lazy, but he sounds better now than he has in years. He's been putting in some work and it shows, I hope he continues to work on himself. Can't wait for the new album!!
His kit is very much like the one from Justice. No bad thing there!
Great Metallica of 2000's
Happy 1 year anniversary of 72 seasons 🎉🎉🎉
They still have that vibe and their own style just like in their younger years ! Their songs old and new still give me the chills...such power and thrill all this time.
If you say so. I don’t like any of the new songs released so far. At all.
Although I loved HTSD
Sounds like eye of the beholder mixed with death magnetic and black album
what..? no
Out of the 3 releases off the new album this is by far my favorite so far. Love it
Feel the same way. Best song so far. Wish more of Metallica's songs sounded like this. If it was just a little heavier it'd be perfect.
Same. All are great but this is the first one that surprised me
@@Tom-cf6zg yeah I thought it would be just another forgettable song that I don't really care about this is something that I would listen to
Really? I think it’s the weakest.
@@james7275able Same. I think James vocals are the biggest problem to my ears tho. I personally don't like this singing from Load/Reload
I kinda knew about Metallica but didn’t really know their work until this past weekend when I saw them not once but twice with my metalhead husband. This is the song that made me their fan and now I am catching up on the past however many years they have been around. My goodness! What a band! 🔥
Welcome to the family. 🤘
@natisha-welcome to the party. My experience was the same. I knew of the group but didn't know their stuff. A friend played a song from the black album and I've been rocking with them ever since. That album is loaded with good shit. Give it a listen 🤘🏾
When the door of metal world opened for me!!!
While this might not be my favorite incarnation of Metallica, I'm just hella glad they're still making music!
Started listening to Metallica as a teen in the 80s & here I am STILL listening after many concerts & several speeding tickets.
Thanks brothers!
🤘😊🤘
Scott, are you thanking them for the speeding tickets? If so, I love your positive perspective! It's good to have PrePaidLegal or similar service to get them reduced to impeding traffic fine only with no points. :) (I'm not a PPL rep; just letting you know as they've saved me lots of $ in insurance premiums over the past decade.)
Me too. Fell in love with there music when master dropped. First album I heard from Metallica.
i’m starting to see the whole concept behind 72 seasons after this video. they’re going through all of their history of all their music styles over the years and compiling it into one album. hence, why this song sounds similar to some of their earlier tracks.
This whole album is going to be one legendary story and I cannot wait.
HTSD went on that way...
it’s honestly got a black album vibe. if this was tuned to d standard it would be crazy
It’s probably a final salute before retiring. Lars bringing back his iconic drum kit, songs that are clearly inspired from their back catalogue. It’s been a good ride
This song sounds like Load and Reload albums, which is not a bad thing.
This song seems like a mix of Justice for all and Black album.
So much to unpack here!! The riff is so intense!! Hearing Lars back on the toms make me really excited to hear his performance for 72 seasons. The lyrics hit me deeply. As an alcoholic for 22 years,I empathize with James immensely! Recovery and quitting smoking! This song is my anthem!! Kirk's lead is mind-blowing 🔥🔥🔥 Rob's bass rumbling through at the end is a great touch to a phenomenal track!! My favorite band that kept from committing suicide 6 1/2 years ago with Hardwired is back to conquer once again!!! Thank all four of you with everything I am👏👏👏🤘🤘🤘🤘👑👑👑
Glad you are still here bud!

I may be of a younger generation and didnt have the luxery of growing up with the band, but from the first moment i heard them i knew they were something special
I will be forever grateful for them for introducing me into the world of metal
I just had a heavy surgery a few days ago so having this new song come out feels like a blessing 🤘
This one did not grow on me the first few times, but then I listened to it live on the show in Amsterdam last April and I have been hooked ever since. I yelled "TEMPTATION" until my lungs were out.
I tell ya Metallica just keeps putting out Headbangers. Metallica is Headbanger Heaven.
It’s just good to see these dudes alive and well, making music. James’ voice is in very good shape, too.
1:49 The riffage, bass, and drums were absolutely succulent in the part after the 4 'temption's.
