    Hi, it’s Tony from LearnAutoBodyAndPaint. Today’s video is How-To Spray Primer/Sealer & Spray Gun Settings!
    Welcome to the series. We’re sanding our bumper cover down with 400-grit wet sand and getting it ready for primer. For the rest of the truck, I’m hitting it with 320-grit on my DA Sander, getting it ready for paint. After I dry sand, I will wash it off with 400-grit wet sand.
    All of the metal you see will be covered with primer. Otherwise, those that I don’t touch in the bed will be covered with bed liner.
    We are working with the Atom X20 Spray Gun. Since we’re spraying with thicker 2K primer with this awesome spray gun, we’ll be switching the tip. Use 1.8mm to 2.0mm tip size for primer sealers.
    Grab your own Atom Spray Gun on Zoolaa now. With a combined German and Japanese-style craftsmanship, these spray guns are definitely a cut above the rest. And, it costs so much less than the more popular brands.
    Watch the video as I demonstrate how to switch the tip of your Atom X20 Spray Gun.
    We’re now looking at the Advantage Primer. I have never used this before. Sometimes it is good to test out different products to know what you like best.
    I’ll be giving you a review on this once I test it out. The Advantage Clear is not that great, but I heard a lot better reviews with their primers.
    The Advantage Primer is a 4:1 mixture, which means 4 parts primer and 1 part activator or hardener.
    When it comes to mixing primers, it is not a science. You can always add a little extra reducer if you feel like it’s a little too thick for your spray gun.
    It is recommended to use a larger tip size when spraying this so you don’t have to reduce it down. But, if you only have a 1.3mm or a 1.4mm tip size for your spray gun, you can reduce it down 15% to 20% than normal to get the primer thinner to spray your gun easier.
    If you don’t do that, it will come out as a dry spray because the primer is too thick to blow out of your spray gun with a small tip size.

    Great video, Tony. It's one thing to be taught how to do something by being told, but if you get taught by actually being shown, this makes a world of difference. I'm impressed with how you mixed that primer, it sure shows that someone knows what they're doing. ;-) Thanks for the lesson and the video,Tony, you're the best.

I've actually learned something today. Reduce the crap out of surface primer if you want it to flow. Make it 40 percent! Thanks Tony. Great video and review for Atom X and Advantage.

    Heres an odd question for ya. I'm going to use 2k primer. The truckn I'm working on was painted with a paint brush and roller (house paint) has held up well for what it is for bout 4 /5 years. I was wondering will 2k high build primer fill the brush strokes well or do I need to sand it smooth before priming. Thanks in advance.

    • @omarbermejo3294
      @omarbermejo3294 Před 2 lety

      Better to sand it down first that will take all that off and get it smooth easy for primer to cover it once u spray

    How do you calculate when adding reducer like when it says 15 -20 percent 🤔 I'm new to this I got the mixing ratio down packed just that other part with the reducer

    • @HowToPaintYourCar
      @HowToPaintYourCar  Před 3 lety +2

      Sometimes reducer can be added as needed to thin the paint down a little bit. A lot of pros gauge the consistency by drips off the stick. But if you are unsure just simply follow the mixing directions in the back of the paint can. It will always tell you the mixing ratio. Check out my website to learn more we have a lot of videos on this topic as well as articles. Hope this helps my mind keep cranking.

    • @HowToPaintYourCar

      Epoxy is more to cover raw metal surfaces. 2k primer/sealer can be used for everything (smaller metal areas included and it won't hurt you to do so).

    • @sticky223332
      @sticky223332 Před 2 lety

      You need to use a hotter temp/slow reducer so it doesn't dry as as fast. If it's still spraying dry you might over reduce the product slightly and remember if you have a heat lamp on it the surface area will be hot and that can dry your product faster as well.
