Farmers Harvest Poppies In Rajasthan

In India, opium cultivation is permitted by the government in three states, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. A 1000 square meter field produces over eight kilograms of opium, which is given to the government as part of a license agreement. The government pays around 15 to 25 USD for a kilogram of opium, depending on the quality.
