  • Walmart has been gaining market share among wealthier shoppers, which it defines as those with household incomes over $100,000, for the better part of the past two years-ever since inflation started trending up.

The only American who won't acknowledge this Administration's failed economic policies is Joe Biden. "Shrink-flation' is the least of our worries compared to rising rents and stagnant wages, but it is an undeniable indicator of how bad our inflation has gotten. I have $100k that i like to invest in a non-retirement account, any advice on that?

I would avoid index funds, mutual funds, and specific stocks for the time being. Right now, the best option is a fixed income of five percent. Put money aside for the times when the market really starts to bounce back.

This might have worked when I was still invest-ing with a couple thousand dollars, but it is more difficult now to decide whether to pull out more than $365k from my port-folio. Agree. I started out adulthood literally broke and had to penny pinch in order to make sure I could afford my room as well as food for the pay period.
Fast forward 12 years of blood sweat and tears, and our household income is over $150K. Literally never stopped my shopping habits and I still bargain hunt like if we were a $25K household.
There are things that make sense to spend on and things that don’t. Groceries fall into the “things that don’t category”. Frankly as long as we have fresh veggies, fruit, and meat on the table it really doesn’t matter of if I buy it from Whole Foods or from Walmart. I learned a long time ago that all the marketing Whole Foods try to slap on their products are just for a “rich person” tax and you can find a lot of the same things for FAR cheaper at other places. Costco is great, Winco is fantastic, Walmart is good. There is no shame in bargain hunting! Many high income bracket people do this, they just don’t talk about it.

I still have the money to go to conventional grocery stores/retailers but the convenience/speed/cost of the WalMart delivery service has made people like me come back to WalMart because I don't have to go INSIDE a WalMart.

No surprise. There is a different mindset between those who are “rich” and those who are “wealthy”. Rich people like to flaunt and tend to buy stupid expensive things to show off. Wealthy people are some of the cheapest/stingiest individuals you’ll ever meet.
CEO of my last company drove a used 10 year old civic, showed up in whatever was the latest Costco fashion, and always packed his lunch. Very wealthy individual and also very smart if you talked to him. Meanwhile his middle managers were dressed to the nines, drove expensive cars, and always flaunted how rich they were.
I don’t think it’s a new phenomenon that wealthy people are shopping at Walmart. I think it’s a new phenomenon that the rich people are and it’s most likely due to them having to ACTUALLY try to budget due to massive credit card debt.

Truly rich people don’t shop for themselves they send someone to go get 100 cans of coke 50 sprite 40 bars of soap etc etc and the person sent will decide what is best option based on several factors like time as time is most valuable to the rich not anything Walmart offers. The rich whenever shopping is not buying soap shampoo etc but just relaxing and browsing so it in a nicer place.
