    Hello from Australia. Thank you so much for a clear, commonsense tutorial. For a novice like myself it was most helpful.

    I've had my Toyo pistol grip well over 20 yrs. and it has been good to me. You're right; if you take care of your tools, they'll last. Thanks for posting this video!

      You are too funny. There are so many variables. E.G. Have you accidentally run over the solder line while trying to remove a piece of glass, have you chipped the cutter (run your finger over it), is the glass starting chip on the edges when you run the cutter over it, are you pressing harder and harder to get a good score line, have you dropped it? It is almost the same rules that apply to scissors. I've had my personal cutter for years, but the classes I teach and the abuse the cutter gets means a change out at least once a year. Hope this helps.

    This is fascinating, is their any other kind of oil you can use in a pinch if you don’t have the specific glass cutter kind?

    Have a Toyo cutter , about 6 yrs old , didn't do much with it but i find difficult to cut long pieces of glass now . The scoring sound is not consistent and looks like there is no oil coming thro. The head has a side play but not up and down . How do i know whether ive got a dull head or needs a quick clean Tha ks very much

    • @glassartdiva
      @glassartdiva  Před 4 lety +2

      6 years old isn't very old for a cutter, but I've had to replace a cutter head that was only 2 years old. The head should bounce up and down so it may be plugged with grit. It only takes minutes to clean your cutter head. The scoring sound maybe just the difference in pressure you are applying on the cutter. The more pressure, the deeper the score, the louder the sound and the score line may have minute chips indicating too much pressure. It is difficult to keep you pressure consistent when scoring a real long piece of glass because of your reach. There is a video on Facebook from a studio in the US (I can't remember the name of it) that shows how to stop your score, adjust your glass and pick up where you left off and continue your score. Very lightly wiggly your cutter over the score line until you find the end of the score and continue from there. I hope this helps.

      @@glassartdiva thank you! I think the prob i had was the lack of air to allow the oil to go thro . Also i have cleaned the head ( first time in 6 years haha ) . Thanks for your help

    Great video very helpful. I wanted to ask you if the Toyo replacement heads are interchangeable between different handle styles. Example: can I put a tc17 head on a pistol grip handle styles? Thanks

    • @glassartdiva
      @glassartdiva  Před 4 lety +1

      It won't fit all types of pistol grips. I have a cheap one and the Toyo won't fit properly. When you purchase a pistol grip, you are paying for the cutting head, not necessarily the barrel itself. If you are looking at replacing your current head with a Toyo, I suggest you bite the bullet and purchase the complete cutter. I don't like to see people waste money and if you purchase just the head and it doesn't fit, you've wasted a wee bit of money. I hope this helps.

    can I use baby oil in it I ran out of oil

    • @glassartdiva
      @glassartdiva  Před 2 lety

      I would not recommend baby oil. If you have olive oil in a small cup, you could dip the cutter into that.

    I bought 2 different ones but it's not cutting

    • @glassartdiva
      @glassartdiva  Před 6 měsíci

      Hold the cutter perpendicular to the glass, use steady and even pressure as you make your score. Is there a stained glass shop near you that offers classes? I encourage to you take a course if you can.

    • @glassartdiva
      @glassartdiva  Před 6 měsíci

      The water may not be hot enough, the score needs to be even pressure all along the score, etc. I found at the beginning of learning that practice and watching/reading other sites helped. I wish you the best
