    I used to use Shaw wheeled glass cutters that had to be dipped in oil before use, then changed over to an oil cutter. Also used a wooden T square with tape on the back for getting the line straight and true.

    • @mikedalakis5292
      @mikedalakis5292 Před 4 lety +10

      OK, I answered my own question. It's Kerosene.

    •  Před 4 lety +14

      @@mikedalakis5292 That's right, the liquid is just kerosene, it makes cutting easier and protects the cutting tool's video, it makes a big difference in cutting, if you look at the Toyo TC 90 cutter there is a reservoir that I put kerosene in it to act lubricating the occasion scratch on the glass.

  • @afifaiman8090
    @afifaiman8090 Před 3 lety +7

    Hi, can you explain how the cutter works? I find it mind blowing that it can cut thick glass

    • @TheRealObiWahn
      @TheRealObiWahn Před 3 lety +13

      Glass cutters usually have a wheel of hardened steel or tungsten carbide which scribes the glass surface. As seen here, better cutters have a liquid reservoir which contains cutting fluid and here the area which was scribed had been cutting fluid applied also.
      First cut, the off cut was apparently heavy enough that it broke without force, the 2nd cut had to be forced.
      Depending on the thickness of the glass you have to choose the right cutter. Thicker glasses require bigger cutting angles of the cuttin wheel. Recommended cutting angles are from 120° for 2-3 mm up to 165° for 19-25 mm thick panes of glass.
      Random fact: To this day, it hasn't been scientifically fully explained how the physics behind cutting glass works...

      Kerosene is used to clean the glass. It cleans it suuuuuper super clean as long as you use a microfibre cloth. The cleaner the score line / cut line, the cleaner the cut.
